Pipeline Drawings

1. The document discusses pipeline design drawings including overall route maps, key plans, route maps, alignment sheets, station approach drawings, and typical drawings. 2. It recommends routing the pipeline along roads to minimize crossings and utilize right of way, and routing in a zigzag manner to avoid anchor blocks and ensure sufficient depth of cover. 3. The document also notes that as-built drawings should show the top of pipe based on measurements taken during construction, as ground profiles can change, and this allows accurate future reference of the pipe profile.

1. Pipeline Drawings a. Overall Route Map b. Key Plan c. Route Maps (detailed) d. Alignment Sheets e.

Station Approach Drawings f. GA drawings for the SBVs g. Typical Drawings h. Crossing Drawings for the Major Roads Scale for every drawing is keep changing client wise. 2. Drawing Scales See all drawings from any one client for the scale. 3. Alignment Sheets Alignment sheet is basic drawing for the construction contractor alignment sheet contain all information including profile, plan, fittings information, Cathodic protection requirements and locations, reference drawings list, depth of cover, terrain details, design standard, IP points with co-ordinates, deflection angle, hot bend locations etc 4. Always it is recommended to route the pipe avoiding roads ie better to go along with road to minimize crossings and utilize road as right of way or maintenance road. 5. From stress point of view, route the pipeline in zigzag manner to avoid anchor blocks, less depth of cover etc 6. Always it is recommended to draw top of pipe on alignment sheet during as-built to avoid re-work becoz during construction, ground profile provided by surveyor get disturbed due to grading and leveling and consequently top of pipe will get changed. Construction contractor will note the top of pipe at each weld joint during construction. Based on the top of pipe elevation actual pipe profile can be drawn for future reference for the client. This is standard internationally accepted procedure. 7. Plot Plan, Station Approach and other on-plot drawings procedures are same as of piping. 8. Designer should be careful about branch connections. Interviewer may ask for the position of branch connection though it is always decided by engineer. Please note the following points as per standard practice a. Liquid line branch connection shall be always at 6 Oclock position so that during cleaning, pigging, the debris can be drained out from the pipe. b. Gas line branch connection shall be always at the 12 Oclock position so that unwanted gases can be vented out This is applicable for the consumer/customer branch connections 9. Surveyor provides the XREF or individual survey sheets. From the survey drawings designer should give importance to elevations, contours, a/g ground crossings, u/g ground crossings, cable crossings, third party crossings. Route can be changed within surveyed corridor.
