TECHNICAL NARRATIVE REPORT
1ST Semester A.Y. 2022-2023

Name: Malabanan, Honey Lou V. Name of Company: LGU San Juan

Program: Bachelor of Industrial Technology Total Number of Rendered Hours: 540 hours

Internship or on the job training is one way by which we students are given an opportunity to apply
the theories and computations that we have learned from school. It also helps us to obtain applicable
knowledge and skills by performing in actual work setting. Colleges and Universities require their students
to undergo such training within a specific number of hours as part of the curriculum. While training the
interns, employers are in fact also teach their employees to guide the trainees by stretching their patience,
develop teaching skills and make them more sensitive to the needs and mindset of the younger generation.
While in the working environment, students are expected to learn and develop skills.

Finding and choosing a company to apply for an internship is one of the most difficult process.
There are things need to consider such as location, financial, and above all the assurance that there is
something to learn. Almost all of us had a hard time finding where to apply for an internship, but the
Municipal Office did not deny our application and welcomed us wholeheartedly. And they didn't disappoint
us either, because the almost three months we spent in public service were worth it and meaningful. On our
first day I couldn't help but be nervous because my mindset was that “I was already at work” so I had to
work hard and it was scary to make a mistake. But that nervousness was replaced by excitement because of
the humor of the supervisor we had. Before we were deployed to the department where we were assigned,
our supervisor made a short orientation about what we should do and consider while we are under his
supervision and he explained the process of our internship. Our entire internship is rotational, one week we
will be on duty in the department assigned to us while the next week we will be under the supervision of
our supervisor again, and that rotation will repeat so on and so forth.

Department of Social Welfare and Development is one of the departments where I am assigned.
My duty in this department has been meaningful because I have learned a lot. Our main task here is to make
senior citizen and PWDs ID. When creating an ID, you are assigned to enter the client's personal
information such as name, birthday, and address. Also, I was assigned to photograph the client and edit it
by enhancing the light, clarity, and vignette. Taking the client's fingerprint using a fingerprint scanner is
also part of the process where light and clarity are also required to be enhanced. Lastly, it is also necessary
to capture the client's signature using a Wacom, which is an electronic device used in e-signatures. After
taking and putting said information in the layout, the last process is to print it using the ID card printer.
While doing the whole process, I realized that it was connected to my subject last school year which is
multimedia. Aside from creating an ID, we are also responsible here to record the client's information in
the logbook where my communication skills were developed because each client will be interviewed with
some questions. Furthermore, I was assigned in encoding where I will enter the information of the clients.
My typing skill developed here because speed is necessary for a reason that the log book to be encoded is
too thick. Doing tasks here at DSWD is fun because you have the opportunity to meet different kinds of
people from whom you can learn something.

Nevertheless, challenges cannot be avoided for which you must be ready. Majority of the people
you will meet here are old so it is expected that their hearing, vision, and ability to write are not that clear
anymore, so having long patience and analyzing the situation is also developed here. If we're going to talk
about technicalities, it's also inevitable that there are problems that may arise with the devices that are using,
such as the device was auto disconnected from the system itself so it is necessary to reconnect it manually
and reset the system. DSWD employees were also a great help to us because they did not fail to teach us
what to do. They are always available whenever we had questions, and they didn't hesitate to trust us that
we can do their jobs.

For almost 3 months, the library became our home since our supervisor's office was there. One of
the courses completed by our supervisor is somewhat related to the course we are taking, so he taught and
shared a lot with us. During our stay in his office, he introduced us to many things related to our course that
we did not know yet. He introduced us to Microsoft Visio, taught us how to install and let us explore it.
While I was exploring, I just said that "I wish I had discovered it sooner" because its feature would be more
helpful to a student like me. Microsoft Visio helps organize your complex ideas visually with the help of
various templates such as flowcharts, timelines, floorplans, and many others. He also taught us how to
install an antivirus which will help secure your computer by preventing, scanning, detecting and deleting

viruses. Moreover, he also taught us how to format a pc that is no longer functioning properly, he taught us
the step by step process.

Since our internship is blended, where we also have to undergo through online, sir wasted no time
because even though we are at home he still continues to supervise us and continues to share his knowledge
through the online platform. Every time we do meeting online, he always opens a topic and shares
everything that is related to our course, including experiences that we might experience along the way. He
is always open to answer our questions and he does not hesitate to share his knowledge with us. He makes
an effort for us to learn something. He also assigns us to make a presentation and let us express our opinions
about the topic. Indeed, every effort we devoted to the online meetings was meaningful as we continued to
learn and clarify our confusion.

In our office there are also other employees. As ojts, we are more than willing to help with their
job. The job of one of our colleagues there is to accept applicants as aspiring Korean farmers. While I was
there, I had the experience of assisting a client to fill out the necessary information. At the same time, I was
assigned to encode the names, personal information, vaccine status, and passport number of clients which
will be used in the upcoming screening of aspiring Korean farmers. While I was doing my task, I couldn't
stop smiling, to think that Filipinos have determination. All of them are dreaming for their family and
willing to sacrifice to provide a good life.

As a continuation, our supervisor also showed us the official website of the municipality that
contains information or details that want to share with the public. And he also gave us the opportunity to
edit its content. To be more specific, this website was designed by LikhaInternet Inc. We also had the
opportunity to meet the IT experts behind this website. While I was exploring it, I learned that the website
does not need long content because having short but meaningful and precise words is enough as long as it
can share the idea it wants to convey. After I explored that website, I noticed the importance of the website
in a public service institution. Because there is a lot of important information on that official website than
the information on their Facebook page.

One of the duties of our municipality is to provide assistance to students. Therefore, everyone was
happy to hear that the scholarship program will reopen. It is an honor for us to be a part of the said assistance
by helping those who will lead the said program. This program lasted for several days so even on the
weekend we had to be on duty. Along with the increase in applicants, there is also a lack of employees who
will receive and analyze the paper, so OJTs are allowed to do the said task. I know how difficult it is to wait
in line, if only we could accept the paper even though the requirements are incomplete and wrong, but we
also know that this is not a good thing to do because the name of the entire municipality will be tarnish for
being unfair. While the submission of the necessary documents continued, I was also assigned to duty in
the checking area where I was task to ensure if the name of the applicant is in the list of those who
successfully listed their name. My duty in that area became challenging because the number of applicants
was constantly increasing, and at the same time we used only one laptop to verify names. As part of the
said program, the names of students who have successfully completed the requirements will be re-encoded,
and we ojts have been assigned to do that all.

Apart from the skills and knowledge we learned throughout our internship, I also learned and
realized a lot from the people I met who I know will help me in developing myself. Every time I am on
duty at the DSWD, the Lolos and Lolas remind me how precious life is. They are the symbolism that it is
a great achievement to reach such an age, every year added to us is important. Moreover, PWDs made me
realize how special everyone is and how lucky I am with what I have. They are also proof that life goes on
despite all conditions. At the same time, I want to emphasize and let them know how important they are, I
want them to realize that there is nothing missing from them because they can do many things that others
cannot. Furthermore, aspiring Korean farmers influenced me to dream. They are one of the living proofs
that Filipinos are able to do everything to make life better for the family even if the only way is to sacrifice
being away and taking risks in another country. Also, scholarship applicants boost my eagerness to finish
my study. Even though I am not one of the thousands waiting in line and hoping to get a slot, I know the
difficulty because I, once stood in that line and took a chance for financial assistance. Of all the people in
the front, receiving and checking the papers, I know that we ojts are the ones who understand the thousands
of students who are in line. At that time, I appreciate the perseverance even more, waking up early to be
first in line, and enduring the heat to get assistance.

I can proudly say that our internship was successful, everyone learned so much. The person I once
considered just a classmate became my true friend, I also learned many things from them. In this internship,

we formed a family, not only with my co-interns but as well as with our supervisor. He is the supervisor
that everyone will wish to have. Staying in his office didn’t make us feel pressured, we felt secure and we
felt that we are more than welcome there. Even his colleagues there, they’re so great. They always remind
us to enjoy life and enjoy being student because no one have the idea of what will happen after school life.
What I also want about this environment, is that we are surrounded with influential people. I will never
forget that one councilor who visited there and had a short talk with us, even though he is busy, he gave his
time to motivate and cheer us when he knew that we are graduating students. I will treasure all the
experience throughout the internship. And hoping that the next semester will be successful and meaningful
as well.
