COSMETOLOGY

COURSES – SYLLABUS (CCSM ACSM, DCSM)


Course Title: Cosmetology
Overview:
Cosmetology is a one, two-year program, three credited courses designed to educate the student in
basic fundamental skills, safety regulations, appropriate work ethics and desirable professional
ethics to pass the Cosmetology Standard Exam. In addition, the program will focus on providing
quality education and training in Cosmetology that will help equip each student with the needed
skills to be competitive in today's industry. We will constantly strive to advance and develop
methods of instruction to keep up with Cosmetology careers progression. We will facilitate
teamwork, collaboration and interactive learning that engages all students. ShikaGold Beauty
Academy adheres to the highest standards of professional ethics and individual integrity. We
embrace diversity and accessibility. We will sustain an atmosphere where students are full
partners in their learning as well have fun and enjoy what they are learning.

Course Description:
The Cosmetology course is a one-two year trade and industrial course for students, the intent of
the program is to provide the student with the required hours and skills necessary for the student
to pass the cosmetology standard Exam. This program will also provide students with a better
understanding of the knowledge, skills and training needed to succeed in the Cosmetology
profession. The student will be provided with education to perform in technical skills,
professional services, business- and job-related skills.

Materials Needed:
1- mannequin, 3-ring binder, pencil or pen, textbook, smock or apron, ENCLOSED LEATHER
SHOES REQUIRED FOR SAFETY REASONS. Students MUST dress out appropriately daily.
Open toe shoes are not allowed in the lab area due to safety issues. Sleeveless clothing is not
acceptable in the salon. Smock or salon apron is required. However, no cell phones/iPod or other
media devices are allowed in class/Lab. All cell phones/iPod and media devices will be collected
at the beginning of class daily and returned at the end of class.

Scheme
Certificate and courses will consist of two parts. Part I -theory papers to cover the essentials of
curriculum & Part II -Practical paper and Industrial training. Advance and Diploma courses
will consist of three parts. Part I- theory papers,
Part – II practical and Part III – a project report to be submitted by the students on a subject
related to cosmetology, followed by viva-voce.

PRACTICAL PAPER:
There will be seven theory papers of three hours duration carrying 100
marks each. Out of these 100 marks, 80 marks will be the weightage for
final theory paper and 20 marks will be for internal assessment for the
sessional work.

In practical paper, students will be tested for planning, concept,


designing and lay out of an event. Practical paper will carry 100 marks.

3. Measurement and evaluation of student achievement


Student achievement is measured and evaluated by
o The ability in explaining the economic impacts generated by the event industry
o The ability in making discussions regarding the project phases, and
strategies used for each of the phases.
o The ability in describing the roles of a Professional Congress Organizer
(PCO), and reviewing the competitive environments of PCOs
o The ability in developing Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Gantt chart
o The ability in analyzing and managing the risks of an event
o The ability in identifying the project stakeholders and build a “politically
correct” action plan to satisfy the stakeholders

Student’s achievement will be graded according to the faculty and university


standard using the symbols: A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, and F.

Students must have attended at least 80% of the total class hours of this

Students will work individually. Details of each assignment will be given in class.

o Up to 2 single‐sided pages. The text should be single‐spaced.
o Font Type: Times New Roman, size 12 point.
o References must be listed immediately following the conclusion
of the paper.

o Plagiarism will give F for the class

Homework & Make up work Information:


 Homework must be turned in at the beginning of class unless otherwise stated.
 If absent on the day homework is due it must be turned in on the 1st day back.
 If absent on the day homework or class work is assigned, on the 1st day back the student
must check with the teacher to get the assignment and turn it in the next day unless
absence was excessive.

Project presentations (10 % each)


Students will work in pairs.
 Your dream event, students are encouraged to fully use your imagination and
creativity to present a theme festival. Your duty is to make the audients believe in the
festival spirit.
 Bidding presentation, students must draw the attention from the audiences, and create
the overall pictures of the event, the theme, the activities, and procedure in the
audiences’ mind. In the bidding presentations, students are required to dress in
business attire.

Student Behavior Expectations for a Substitute Teacher


 All students must arrive to class on time with all appropriate materials.
 Students must stop talking immediately after the announcements.
 Students must listen attentively to and be respectful of the substitute teacher.
 Students must follow all directions the first time the substitute teacher presents them to
the class.

 Students must remain in their seats and work on all assignments quietly.
 Students must be on task at all times.
 Students will be dismissed from class by the substitute teacher.
 All work must be completed and will be graded.
 All assignments administered by the substitute teacher must be completed that day and
given back to the substitute teacher. All work will be graded.
 Any students found to be disruptive by the substitute teacher will suffer the following
consequences; you will be referred to the principal or assistant principal.

There is no need for everyone in the group to speak, you can use whatever
presentation techniques and styles to make your presentation most attractive and
interesting.
