A lesson plan for young learners that integrates all the language skills:

Level: Elementary

Language focus: Vocabulary about the taste of food and drink, grammar about "what is it?" and
"how does it taste?"

Time: 60 minutes

Materials:
- Pictures of different types of food and drink (1 set of flashcards)
- Vocabulary cards with adjectives describing taste (e.g. sweet, sour, salty, bitter, spicy) (1 set of
flashcards)
- Flashcards with "what is it?" and "how does it taste?" written on them (1 set of flashcards)
- A worksheet with a chart for students to record their taste preferences
- A short story about a food or drink experience

Stage 1: Warm-up (10 minutes)


- Introduce the topic of food and drink tastes by showing the pictures of different types of food
and drink.
- Ask students to brainstorm different words they know to describe taste. Write these words on
the board.
- Explain that in this lesson, they will learn more adjectives to describe the taste of food and
drink.

Stage 2: Vocabulary Focus (10 minutes)


- Give students a set of vocabulary cards with adjectives describing taste.
- Ask students to match the adjectives to their definitions.
- Once they have completed the matching task, elicit and discuss examples of different foods or
drinks that could be described with each adjective.
- Ss complete worksheet about vocabulary

Stage 3: Grammar Focus (10 minutes)


- Introduce the phrases "what is it?" and "how does it taste?" and explain their meanings.
- Use flashcards with the phrases written on them to model the conversation between two people.
- Ask students to practice the conversation in pairs, taking turns to ask and answer questions
using the phrases.
- Ss complete worksheet about grammar

Stage 4: Listening and Speaking (15 minutes)


- Play an audio recording of a short story about a food or drink experience.
- Ask students to listen and identify any adjectives that describe the taste of the food or drink.
- After listening, ask students to practice the conversation from Stage 3 again, this time using the
adjectives they have learned to describe the taste of the food or drink in the story.

Stage 5: Reading and Writing (15 minutes)


- Give students a worksheet with a chart to record their taste preferences.
- Students read a short passage about different types of food and drink and record their
preferences using the phrases "what is it?" and "how does it taste?" and the adjectives they have
learned.
- Encourage students to describe the taste of the food and drink using the adjectives they have
learned.

Stage 6: Review and Conclusion (5 minutes)


- Review the vocabulary and adjectives learned in the lesson, as well as the phrases "what is it?"
and "how does it taste?"
- Ask students to reflect on what they have learned about describing the taste of food and drink
and asking questions.
- Assign homework to practice using the vocabulary and phrases to describe different food and
drink experiences.

This lesson plan integrates vocabulary practice, grammar practice, listening practice, reading
practice, writing practice, and speaking practice, providing young learners with a variety of
activities and tasks to develop their language skills in a fun and engaging way. The use of
