Duration: 40-50 minutes

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to:

1. Define and distinguish between communicable and non-communicable diseases.

2. Identify the different types of non-communicable diseases.

3. Understand the causes and risk factors associated with non-communicable diseases.

4. Learn the different ways to prevent non-communicable diseases.

5. Understand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in preventing non-communicable


diseases.

Materials:

1. Whiteboard and marker

2. PowerPoint presentation

3. Handout summarizing the lesson content

4. Video related to non-communicable diseases (optional)

Procedure:

Introduction (5 minutes)

1. The teacher will start the class with a brief discussion on the importance of maintaining good health.

2. The teacher will ask students what they understand by the term diseases?
3. Then, the teacher will distinguish between communicable and non-communicable diseases and give
examples.

Direct Instruction (15-20 minutes)

1. In this phase, the teacher will present a PowerPoint presentation that contains information on non-
communicable diseases.

2. The presentation will cover the following topics:

- What are non-communicable diseases and how are they different from communicable diseases?

- The various types of non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and
chronic respiratory diseases.

- The causes and risk factors associated with non-communicable diseases.

- The different ways to prevent non-communicable diseases such as avoiding tobacco use, limiting
alcohol consumption, maintaining healthy eating habits, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep.

3. The teacher will hold a question and answer session after the presentation to check the students'
understanding of the topics presented.

Video (optional) (5-7 minutes)

1. The teacher may show a video related to non-communicable diseases to reinforce the lesson's
concepts.

2. After the video, the teacher will ask follow-up questions to encourage class discussions and ensure
the students understand the video's content.

Class Activity (15-20 minutes)

1. In this phase, the teacher will give students a handout summarizing the information presented in the
lesson.

2. The class will be divided into small groups, and each group will be given a task to create an infographic
poster applying the knowledge learned during the class.

3. After the allotted time, each group will present their posters to the class.

Conclusion (5 minutes)
1. The teacher will conclude the lesson by summarizing the key points learned by the students.

2. The teacher will ask students what they learned from the lesson and how they can use this
information to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

3. The teacher will conclude that by developing healthy habits, individuals can reduce the risk of non-

Formative assessment will be conducted through questions and answer sessions. Each group's
infographic poster will be assessed based on: its clarity, relevance, creativity, and technical accuracy.

### Objectives
- Students will be able to define non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and identify common examples.
- Students will understand the causes and risk factors of NCDs.
- Students will learn about the signs and symptoms of NCDs.
- Students will learn about protective factors and possible complications of NCDs.
- Students will learn about the importance of prevention and control of NCDs.

### Materials
- Whiteboard and markers
- Handouts on NCDs and their prevention and control
- Computer and projector for multimedia presentation

### Introduction (10 minutes)


- Begin by asking students what they know about NCDs.
- Write down their responses on the board.
- Explain that NCDs are diseases that are not contagious and cannot be spread from person to person.
- Provide examples of NCDs such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and asthma.

### Lesson Development (40 minutes)


- Discuss the causes and risk factors of NCDs such as unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, tobacco
use, and alcohol consumption.
- Explain the signs and symptoms of NCDs such as chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, and
unexplained weight loss.
- Discuss protective factors of NCDs such as healthy diet, regular physical activity, and stress
management.
- Explain possible complications of NCDs such as heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure.
- Discuss the importance of prevention and control of NCDs.
- Discuss ways to prevent and control NCDs such as:

- Show multimedia presentations and videos to reinforce the concepts.
