Note: Each group (comprising five students) will submit a detail report. The computer aided
calculations are accepted. Plagiarism is offensive and marks will be deducted on it. Each group
will have to submit the similarity report generated by Turnitin. The similarity index must not be

Problem:
The UET Bannu campus administration has planned to construct an aristocratic double storeyed Faculty
Hostel for 30 faculty members having all necessary living, recreation and security facilities. You are hired
as a consultant to analyze the daily water demand and design the water distribution system for the said
building considering two different scenarios.
1. Water supply from a main overhead tank. (a pipeline system that carries out water flow and
distributes it to different locations without a pump)
2. Water supply from underground water.( a pipeline system that carries out water flow and
distributes it to different locations with a pump)
Limitations:
1. Any layout of a double storeyed Faculty Hostel.
2. 30 living rooms for faculty with attach bathrooms.
3. 1 kitchen, and 1 washing area.
4. Recreational facility.
5. Proper living accommodation and washrooms for supporting staff (cook, helper, security guards etc)
6. Water usage calculation must not be less than for 35 adult persons.
7. Water tank capacity must also fulfill water needs for cleaning, gardening etc.

3. Water supply design data (materials, types and number of components for pipe networking, pipe sizes and
lengths, etc)
5. Calculations / Analysis (water tank capacity as per daily water demand, flow rate, pipe flow velocity,
Reynolds number, major and minor head losses, total pressure drop in the system, pumping power etc.).
