In this lesson, you will be acquainted with the basic parts and features of the software. What do you know about desktop publishing? Copy the table below in your paper then fill out each space with your answers. On the first column write your ideas about desktop publishing. On the second, write its definition from your dictionary or online source. Don't forget to cite your source(s) on the second column, My Idea About Desktop Publishing Definition of Desktop Publishing Source: Getting to Know Adobe PageMaker After accomplishing the previous activity you may now have an idea about the use of Adobe PageMaker. Adobe PageMaker, introduced in 1985 by Aldus Corporation, is actually considered the first desktop publishing application ever made (Bear, 2019). The application is first named as Aldus PageMaker; but then in 1994, Adobe Systems acquired it and released it as Adobe PageMaker 6.0 in 1995. The application was very successful because it allows flexibility and accuracy of work for professionals. However, this success ended early when Adobe decided to release its final version, Adobe PageMaker 7.0, in 2001. Finally in 2004, they have ceased the development of the application. 5) (QQ) what is It BY Installing Adobe PageMaker 7.0 The structure of this module is hands-on for it to be effective. Therefore, you should have Adobe PageMaker 7.0 installed in the computer that you will be using. Ask for assistance from your teacher with regards to its installation. After installing the application, you can proceed on the next parts and perform the indicated tasks.What Can Be Made In Adobe PageMaker? Parts of PageMaker Working Environment (Debnath, 2011) 1) Title Bar - This part indicates the title of the document. Default file name is “Untitled- 1{number of file)”2) Menu Bar - This part includes the main tabs (File, Edit, Layout, Type, Element, Utilities, View, Window and Help). In your computer, slide the mouse pointer to each tab to see what each tab can do. 3) Rulers ~ They work like the actual ruler. They can be used to ensure accuracy of positioning the text, shape and other objects in the Page. You can hide them using the “Window” in the Menu Bar. 4) Toolbox - This section holds all material you need to manipulate the objects of your publication. It is useful for temporarily placing text and graphic elements when deciding where to place items in a page. Text and graphics on the pasteboard will not be printed. 6) Page - This is a space dedicated for the document. 7) Margin Guide - This is a fix guide which represents your chosen margins 8) Control Palette — It is used to manipulate text and graphics. There are three views within the Control Palette: Character, Paragraph and Pointer. The view displayed depends on the tool that is selected. In each view you can manipulate the text, paragraph or object by adjusting the settings in the control palette. 9) Page Icons — The numbered page icons represent the pages of your document. The L and R icons represent master pages. Items on the master page will appear on all pages of the document. 10)Seroll Bars - They are used to navigate in viewing the document. 11)Color and Style Palette — The color palette is obviously used to assign colors to text and objects within the document. The default colors are very limited, but you can define your own set of colors. The style palette is used to automatically adjust a text into a heading, subheading or any defined style by the user. A user can add his/her style by making one using the style palette. Inserting, Removing and Sorting (Rearranging) Pages Task: Do the following procedures. 1. There are two ways to insert a page a. Place the mouse pointer on the page icon. Right click in the mouse. Click “Insert pages” b. Click “Layout” in the Menu bar. Select “Insert pages” 2. There are two ways to remove a page a. Place the mouse pointer on the page icon of the page(s) you want to delete. Right click in the mouse. Click “Remove pages”. b. Click “Layout” in the Menu bar. Select “Remove Pages”. 63. To sort (arrange) the pages, click “Layout” in the Menu Bar. Select “Sort Pages”. Using the Master Page Task: Do the following procedures. 1. Recall that whatever you put in the master page appears on all pages. 2. To open the master page, click this page icon 3. Observe that the master page have two parts, the left and the right. Text or graphic that are in the right part will appear on these page icons [7 waite those that are in the left will appear on these icons “2 | Observe the direction of upper fold on each icon. Is 4. By default, the page icons will appear on this pattern put additional pages. ‘Try using the master page by typing your name and section at the top left portion on the right part of the master page. 6. Then click the page icon 1. Notice that your name and section appears on the exact position where you type it in the master page. Notice also that you cannot move its position; it can only be repositioned or edited on the master page itself.
