2) Figure 2 shows a portal frame which is pinned to its foundation and which c~uries vertical
and horozontalloads as shown. If the relative values of the plastic moments of resistance
are those indicated in the figure, then determine;
i) Ultimate failure loads in all possible beam mechanisms,
ii) Ultimate failure load in sway mechanism,
iii) Ultimate failure loads in all possible combined sway and beam mechanisms,
iv) By considering the above mechanisms, plastic collapse load Wu in terms of the
plastic moment parameter Mp.
v) Foundation reactions at collapse.
