Pang-baon, Pang-Ipon: Daily Allowance Management of Students of Las Piñas City National

Senior Highschool - CAA Campus

I. Introduction

Most students are given money for daily transportation and food expenses
when attending school. This money is known as an allowance. Typically, a child is
provided with money every week to help them learn how to budget.

Every person’s life depends on money in some way. It is used to purchase materials
and supplies that are necessary for living. Earning enough money can prevent the
suffering that comes with poverty and hunger. It can help people access education and
power. Money is needed to sustain a life in this materialistic world. Everyone has a
different method of spending and saving money (Galulu, 2017).

On the other hand, students learn to save their allowances as they deal with different
requirements in school and things they want to buy for themselves. As a matter of
fact, Managing their allowance helps them to attain a better understanding of
financial matters that would become handful in their future.

With this, the researcher will focus on how Senior Highschool Students of Las Piñas
City National Senior Highschool-CAA Campus manage the daily allowance given by
their parents.

II. Statement of the Problem

The researcher aim to present the Daily Allowance Management of the


Selected Students in Las Piñas City National Senior High School-CAA Campus.
Specifically, it tries to answer the following:
1. What is the profile of the student ( participant ) in terms of:
1.1 Name
1.2 Grade and Section
1.3 Age
1.4 Gender
1.5 Daily Allowance

2. What are the personal budgeting practices of student ( participant ) as to:


2.1 Transportation
2.2 Food
2.3 Personal Wants
2.4 Projects
2.5 Savings

3. Is there any significance on knowing how students manage their daily


allowance?

III. Objectives of the Study

This study aims to:


 To detail how much allowance are given to Senior High School Students
 To know how they spend their allowance
 To know where they spend their allowance

IV. Significance of the Study


Allowance is an amount of money given by parent or guardian to spend
on their daily needs and wants. How students manage their allowances can’t be
controlled by their parents. So the researcher firmly believes that the findings of the
study will benefit the following:

Students. Some of the students of Las Piñas City National Senior High School-CAA
Campus are free from home and mostly they are living without worrying their allowances
running out because they have enough to spend, but the worst case is those students who simply
getting themselves into a cycle of debt by each other mean. This is where the significance of
allowance, ways to avoid over spending and having debt, allowance managing practices that they
do: suits their lifestyle and live within their means.

Parents. Parents have different options about giving allowance to their children,
because they should provide the needs of them and they believe that giving them an allowance is
a good way to teach them on their financial responsibility. This research will give them idea on
their children and to monitor, on how their children spend their allowances in the different
variables given.

Administration. The school is the second home of the students as most of them
spend their entire day in school. Through this research, the school administration will be
informed and have idea on how they will be formulate the class schedule of the students, that is
one of the significant variables given, that affects the allowance budgeting practices of the
students.

Teachers. One of the variables given is the project, which is usually given by the
teachers. This study has significance to them, to know the allowance budgeting practices of the
students regards to the projects. The sum that the students of Las Piñas City National Senior
High School—CAA Campus give up or practices that they set aside, enabling them to comply.

V. Scope and Delimitation

The main purpose of this study is to observe students on how they manage
their daily allowance, and to know how and where they spend their money. The data
that will be collected through or some a survey questionnaire will be used and
analyzed.

There are a lot of students in Las Piñas City National Seniors High School -
CAA Campus but only 6 – 8 respondents are required to conduct the study.

VI. Definition of Terms

Allowance – it refers to the money given to the students that shall be used for their
daily needs and expenses; it is given by their parents and guardians.

Management – the process of dealing with or controlling things or people.

Savings – the portion of allowance/money not spent on current expenditures.


Expenditure – the action of spending money.

Project – a piece of planned work or an activity that is finished over a period of time
and intended to achieve a particular purpose.

Transportation – a vehicle or system of vehicles for getting from one place to


another.

Poverty – the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money
or basic material needs.

Budgeting – it refers to the financial plan and list of all planned expenses and
revenues made by the students in response to their daily and monthly expenses.

Budgeting Practices – it refers to the usual habit of students in spending their


allowances and managing their finances.

Debt – amount of money that is owed or due.
