2 EXAM TASK TASK Read the following text. Three sentences have been removed from the text. Choose from the
sentences (A-E) the one which fits each gap (1-3) to obtain a logical and coherent text. There are two extra
sentences that you do not need to use.

‘It’s going to be a long day’, Tom thought, as he looked at the clock on the classroom wall. It was the day of the general
election and he’d volunteered to be one of the election judges. (1)___ There were now voting booths and a large ballot-
box in several classrooms.
The voting would start at 7 am and continue till 9 pm. However, the judges had arrived more than an hour earlier.
