The Significance of Internet Access

The document discusses the significance of internet access for education. It explores how the internet has become integral to the teaching and learning process for high school students by providing a wide range of educational resources. The purpose of the study is to determine the impact of internet access on the learning process. It finds that the internet helps simplify knowledge for students, aids visualization of lessons, and allows access to study materials like video tutorials. Teachers can also leverage internet resources to provide supplemental materials and record lectures for students. However, guidelines may be needed to address potential distractions from overuse of social media.

The Significance of Internet Access: Exploring its Impact

on Education

INTRODUCTION

Technology has been of outstanding contribution to

education in the 21st century. It has made
different innovations that have eased and widened the
way of learning for students. Most learners now own
cellular phones, tablets, laptops, and other technological
devices that help aid their way of learning and interacting
with the community as part of their social life. Upon using
these devices, it has one major characteristic – access to
the internet. The Internet is a wide network that allows
computer devices all over the world to communicate and
synchronize with each other (Sample, 2018).

It can be said that the internet would then contain

countless amounts of information caused by the quantity
and frequency it is used by individuals. In several fields
worldwide, information and communication technology
(ICT) has been a vehicle for creativity and quality
academic enhancement. From both outside and within the
classroom in the education sector, ICT has been an
integral part of the teaching and learning process for high
school students.

The Internet is a worldwide network system that connects

a diverse set of commercial, public, business, academic,
and government networks to enable global communication
and access to data resources. The senior high school level
of education occupies a very important position in the
educational system as it is the bridge connecting the
primary and tertiary levels of education. Special attention
given to this level will influence the quality of the products
from the group that would either be pushed into the labor
market or the higher levels of the national education
system (Ikpeba, 2010). In the past decade, the Internet
has reached various places, often acting as an agent of
change. It is now making major impacts in primary and
senior high schools across the world. In the age of
globalization information and technology, the Internet has
become a major factor in human knowledge development,
organizational management, business activities, and
leisure activities. The Internet has become increasingly
important to users in their everyday lives (Horrigan &
Rainie, 2006).

It creates new ways for citizens to communicate,

congregate, and share information of a social nature
(Kedem, 1999). People worldwide can communicate and
respond to mutual needs instantly. Tele-conference
accelerates the completion of a project. Open and
distance learning provides worldwide learners with
convenience and inexpensive educational opportunities,
especially for low-income learners. Telemedicine allows
medical specialists in Boston to diagnose and treat
patients in California (Kedem, 1999). These are some
benefits offered by the Internet which provides access to
millions of resources worldwide and enables users to
collect, store, transmit, and retrieve information from
other individuals, private companies, government
agencies, academic institutions, research institutes, etc.
Information Technology (11) concerned with the computer
system which helps the internet is an electronic system as
interconnected computer networks of a global network
system to share and publish huge information resources
and services, online of the World Wide Web (WWW) and
the infrastructure to support email. (Merriam- Webster,
2020).Information Technology (1T)Information Technology
(IT) concerns the computer system which helps to store,
transfer, process, and present information. The main goal
of Information Technology is to make people and society
benefit from it. The study concluded that an increase in
internet use was very useful in the improvement of
learning outcomes. The study also found the negative
impacts of internet use which leads to distraction as time
is spent on social media instead of studies. Therefore, it is
proposed that University authorities should provide
guidelines to help students overcome some of the
challenges faced when using the internet.
Purpose of our study

The purpose of this study is to determine what

is the significant use of internet access. It helps the
students with the learning process as it helps to
simplify the knowledge. Also, it helps to visualize
what is being taught by the teachers in school. If
you want to prepare for final exams, you can
access Video Tutorials and other resources online
through the Internet also. Teachers can also make
use of the internet by proving the students with
extra study material and resources such as
interactive lessons, educational quiz as well as
tutorials. Teachers can record their lectures and
provide them to the students for revisions which is
better than reading from notes. The Internet is a
boon to people and is used all over the world.
Hence, it should be used for good purposes. It has
had a great impact on imparting education to the
children. If this is used in appropriate ways that
meet children’s development level, they can
benefit and learn from the Internet. Over the last
decades, internet connectivity has improved
tremendously and is available everywhere such as
homes, offices, travel and schools (Ellore, 2014)
Today, empirical studies
(Akende, 2015) report that access to information
can influence the academic performance of
students. The use of credible Internet resources is
of greater importance for academic study,
especially in high-class courses which require an
academic review of the literature (Sahin, 2010).
Intern use for educational purposes is found by
(Kim, 201) to be the heart of adolescent academic
achievement, and not all students have funds to
afford to buy gadgets to search for important
details or their assignments the reason for this
problem is lack of funds
