Career and Academic Essay

How will I remain strategic in ensuring that I am staying on track to meeting my career goals?

Is the major you declared when you applied to the College still the best major choice for you?

Why or Why not?

What academic goals have you set for yourself?

What is your plan to track your progress on those goals?

What type of internships or volunteer activities will you pursue to enhance your knowledge

about your desired career choice?

Can you identify a time you will set aside to intentionally reflect on your progress and whether

you need to set any new short-term goals or perhaps adjust your larger plans?

In a world with a diverse group of bipedal beings, we all have one thing in common no matter

how much you can deny it. That big common factor that we all share is the fact that we all want

to be successful in what we choose to do with the rest of our lives. Going about being successful

in what one might choose to do for the remainder of one's lives, there are many steps and goals

one must take to keep themselves on the right path to conquer their lives. Therefore, in order to
ensure that I stay and keep myself on track I plan on setting goals little-by-little and reviewing

progress as I go.

I think setting goals for yourself when going about certain things that you’d like to achieve is

very important, but I think that all while having that long-term goal set in your mind it is

important to set up a bunch of little milestones throughout the journey. What I mean by setting

up little milestones along the way is such as, just overlooking at the tasks that you need to

complete at which point you stand at and breaking down the task by each endeavor. Overlooking

and breaking down what you need to do helps makes your goals seem a ton easier than what they

might be regardless of what it is. Not only does it make the process seem less complicated, but it

helps keep you motivated and on track because completing those little tasks gives you little

amounts of dopamine. Furthermore, receiving that dopamine from completing those tasks it’ll

make you feel better about yourself, therefore you’ll chase that feeling even more and keep

progressing and going through goals.

Certain goals I would set for myself would just be based on single topic or detail to further

ensure I’m progressing. These goals would include, practicing your interviewing skills at your

career center, attending career fairs, maintaining relationships with like-minded individuals in

the same field as me, pursue internships, and build a professional network while in college.

Practicing your interview skills at career centers will help me build a certain professional

likeability. Becoming better with talking to people in a professional aspect will further advance

my social and communication skills in the workplace so that when I go into interviews, I could

give an amazing first impression to between me and the interviewer to get me lined up for good

job opportunities.
In order to get into certain positions as such I plan on attending a good number of career fairs in

order to get myself out there within the field and meet people. Not only does it connect me to

many companies and businesses for job opportunities, but I will be able to meet people who are

pursuing the same career as me and be able to communicate with them about certain things in the

field. I’ll be able to pick their brains and get knowledge from them about certain things that I can

work on or incorporate into my work to leverage and advance my skills and criteria. I can take

that knowledge from others and go into internships and excel past expectations. These

internships will not only help me obtain jobs within the field but gain mass amounts of

experience from being physically and mentally there going through the motion of what I am

doing.

Making sure that I hold myself accountable to these goals and standards will keep my

head straight on path to being successful post-graduation. I plan on leveraging little milestones to

help catapult my progress through obtaining my degree and winning in life.
