A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
a. PRAYERS
Class, let us all vow our head and (Learner’s will pray)
put ourselves in the presence of the
lord as we pray

b. CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE

c. CHECKING OF ASSIGNMENT

What is noun?

A noun is a word that refers to a thing, a person,


an animal, a place, a quality, an idea, or an
action.
B. MOTIVATION
Class, I brought something today. Can you
identify what is on the plate? “Those are cookies, Teacher”

What is this? “That is a cookie”

Based on your answer, what do you think is our


topic for today? “Our topic for today is “Forms of Plural Noun”
Before, we proceed to our topic for today, let’s just At the end of interactive discussion, learners
read our objective for today’s discussion. should be;
a) identify the singular and plural form of
noun;
b) write the plural form of noun; and
c) value the importance of knowing how to
form the plural or noun.

C. DISCUSSION
Plural noun is the form of a noun used to
show there are more than one. Most nouns
simply add –s or –es to the end to become
plural.

Here are the eight (8) rules in forming in


plural nouns.
1. Most nouns from their plural by adding –s.
Example:
Nation – Nations
Car – Cars
Apple – Apples
Book - Books

How about the word “school” The plural form of the word “school” is
“Schools”
2. For nouns that ends in s, ss, ch and x.
Simple add –es.
Example:
Gas – Gases
Glass – Glasses
Box – Boxes
Dish – Dishes

How about the word “Church”? The plural form of the word “church” is
“churches”
3. For nouns that end in y preceded by a
consonant, change y to “I” and add – es.
Example:
Pony – Ponies
Baby – Babies
Story – Stories
Country – Countries

How about the word “sky”? The plural form of the word “sky” is “skies”.

4. For nouns that end in y, preceded by a


vowel, simple add –s.
Example:
Monkey – Monkeys
Day – days
Boy – Boys
Donkey – donkeys
The plural form of the word “joy” is “joys”
How about the word “joy”

5. For some nouns ending in o add only –s. if


the preceded is vowels.
Example:
Zoo – Zoos The plural form of the word “video” is
Radio – Radios “videos”.
How about the word “Video”?

But for some cases, its ends in o the


preceded is consonant, add – es.
Example:
Hero – Heroes
Echo – echoes The plural form of the word “tomato” is
“Tomatoes”
How about the word “tomato”

6. For nouns ending in “f” or “fe”, change f or


“fe” to v and add – es.
Example:
Wife – wives
Knife – Knives The plural form of “leaf” is “Leaves”

How about the word “leaf”

There are some few exemption some merely


add – s.
Example
Roof – Roofs
Belief - Beliefs The plural form of “cliff” is “Cliffs”
Dwarf – Dwarfs

How about the word “cliff”

7. There are few common and highly irregular


plural.
Example:
Ox –Oxen
Man – Men The plural form of “woman” is “women”
Tooth – Teeth
Mouse – Mice

8. There are also a few nouns that have same


form for the singular and plural.
Example:
Sheep – Sheep The plural form of “swine” is “Swine”
Moose – Moose
Deer – Deer
