The music of the lowlands of Luzon have been very preserved, thus,
these are still famous until today. This module will help you discover how the people
of the Lowlands of Luzon express their feelings towards each other and the
environment, their history, and their religious beliefs.
To show our love to our Philippine culture, we will learn to sing and make your
own simple rhythmic or melodic accompaniment to some selected music of the
Lowlands of Luzon.

LEARNING COMPETENCY:
 Improvise simple rhythmic/ melodic accompaniments to selected music from

An instrumental music is a recording without human voice or vocals, although


sometimes it may have some inarticulate vocals, such as shouted chirping of birds or
any other natural sounds; but more so, instrumental music is likely played by
instruments alone and this may produce a soothing and relaxing sound. Instrumentals
refer to music that are primarily or exclusively produced using musical instruments.

What is It

Many of our ancestors coming from the different regions here in the Philippines
have given a big contribution in our musical history and this music became a big help
not only in entertainment but also in some religious ceremonies as well as, easing the
stressful day of work. It maybe of different languages, instruments used and of
different performance but still Philippine music is noticeable to us.

Here are some Traditional Philippine Folk Song from Lowlands of Luzon:
Atin Cu Pung Singsing

It is a traditional Filipino folk song from Central Luzon, Philippines. In the


Kapampangan, the song is sung by adults and children. The origin of the song is
unknown, and there was a debate whether it was pre-historic or colonial. But its
melody is most likely from the 18th century as it was similar to Spanish and Mexican

folk songs of the era. The folk song, presents a woman as its main character and a
man as a secondary character. The woman in the song was looking for a missing ring
given by her mother and offers her love as a prize for the man who could find it.

Magtanim ay di biro

A song that talks about the difficulties of the life of a farmer, how one has to
bend over the entire day, with no time to sit and no time to stand. And then it goes on
to summon the listener to join in, to keep the industrious spirit alive, and to continue
the hard work in the hopes of securing a brighter future. The song wonderfully reflects
the positive, hopeful mentality of the Filipino.

Sarung Banggi

It means “One evening”. The folksong is from Sto. Domingo, Albay. For
Bicolanos, this is not only a song but also a festival that showcases a variety of cultural
and religious activities that are held every 18th to 25th day of May and performed at
night. This festival is a tribute to its composer, Potenciano V. Gregorio, Sr.

The song is a popular old Ilocano folk song, possibly pre-Spanish era and is
about a girl with a hardened heart who does not need her lover's pleading. It is about

This song, also known as Sitsiritsit Alibangbang, is a Filipino folk song. This
humorous song describes a flirtatious woman threatening a storeowner that
the ants are going to get him if he is not going to extend credit, as well as unusual
situations of exchanging a child for a doll or bagoong. It is said to have originated
during the country's Spanish colonization, as its lyrics suggest the ordinary life during
that time. The melody of the song is about the same as Fly Fly the Butterfly.
