THE COMPONENTS OF COMMUNICATION

SOURCE- a person who has an idea, feeling, experience that they wish to share with another
person. The main focus of communication.

ENCODING- is an internal activity. By employing vocabulary, rules, of grammar, and syntax


that are relevant to the sender’s language.

MESSAGES- is a set of written, pictorial, verbal, and/or non-verbal symbols that represents a
personalized reality.

CHANNEL- provides that necessary connection. The passage of message.

RECEIVER- is the person who takes the message into account, and thereby is directly linked to
the source.

DECODING- the receiver is often referred to as information processing.

FEEDBACK- the response. It can be a non-verbal, verbal, or even silence.

NOISE- defined and explained as any intended or unintended stimulus that affects the fidelity of
a sender’s message.

CHARACTERISTICS OF COMMUNICATION

COMMUNICATION IS A DYNAMIC PROCESS


 communication as an ongoing process. It can be change. Once a word or action is
produced, it cannot be retracted.

COMMUNICATION IS SYMBOLIC
 it represents the images, structure, verbal or non-verbal.

COMMUNICATION IS CONTEXTUAL
 always occurs in a context, and the nature of communication depends in large measure on
this context. Involves a number of variables we need to examine.
o Location
o Occasion
o Time
o Number of participants.

COMMUNICATION HAS A CONSEQUENCE


- Your response to messages will fluctuate in both degree and kind.
