Bill Smith, a welder, qualified using the SMAW process to weld 6-inch pipe made of P-No. 1 material that was 0.280 inches thick in the 6G position while moving downhill. The root and face bends passed with minor indications, and the visual, macro, and RT tests also passed, qualifying the welder for SMAW welding of pipe between 2.5 to 8 inches in diameter made of P-No. 1 material from 0.280 to 0.560 inches thick in all positions.
