What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

cycle using PowerPoint. They will need to use audio and record themselves reading the story
to then present it to the class.

How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply.

☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation:

I will first start by introducing the tool PowerPoint and then showing them my story, I created
using that tool. We then will go over what the life cycle is and have them tell me the steps of
a plant’s life cycle. Then I will have students break off into groups of 4 and create their own
story about a plant and the life cycle it goes through. This story can be made up of characters,
it just must include the life cycle of a seed growing to a plant. I will explain to them that the
creativity, background, color, and pictures will all be up to them. Each story should be
different and be personal to each group. After each group creates their story, they will record
slide by slide them reading the pages to their story. Feedback will be given when each group
shares and presents their story to the class. The slides recorded will read the story, so the
students do not have to. I will give students feedback on their stories of what they can
improve and what they did good on. To conclude the lesson, I will ask the students if they
enjoyed the freedom of this lesson and how they feel after using the tool PowerPoint.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
Students will first come up with a design plan and write on a story board in groups of 4. This
will be 6 squares where they will write what each page will say and draw pictures as a draft.
They will then take this story board and use it to help them create the story on PowerPoint.
They will collaborate and co-engage to create their story and record reading each slide.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This tool for learning reflects and supports all students by letting them express and enhance
their creativity in a project. This tool lets students create a theme, use all sorts of colors, and
choose pictures with a wide variety. This meets the UDL framework on action and expression.
At the end of this lesson students will also get to share what they learned by presenting their

story to the class meeting the UDL of representation.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

The activities created in this lesson will show students how to create a story using technology
and pencil and paper. This activity will give students the time to use a storyboard and
technology. The part I look most forward to implementing with my students is them sharing
their stories. I look forward to hearing all their creativity come to life based on each individual
story presented.
