ABSTRACT

The purpose of the current study aimed to investigate the effects of powdered juice

from the breadnut fruit (Artocarpus Camansi) as an alternate metabolism agent for body

slimming. Six different therapies using either fatty or healthy treatments are evaluated on the

breadnut fruit (Artocarpus Camansi). For several weeks, until the weight was lowered, the

powdered juice of the breadnut fruit (Artocarpus Camansi) was ingested. The results show

that for one to four weeks, ingesting powdered Breadnut fruit (Artocarpus Camansi) juice

will aid in weight loss while receiving therapy. Breadnut powdered juice is processed by

gathering 10 normal size of ripe Breadnut fruit, drying, roasting in a clean pan, powdering

and packaging . The study used randomized block design in collecting the data and

treatments. It also used statistical analysis such as frequency count, simple percentage, mean,

standard deviation, and analysis of data (ANOVA). The Breadnut powdered juice consumed

for several weeks until the metabolism agent is being boosted. Results shown that taking the

Breadnut powdered juice from week 3 to week 5 boost the metabolism of the respondents.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

A plant named Breadnut (Artocarpus Camansi) provides health advantages, assists in

digestion of food, and also contains a high amount of dietary fibre. In addition, Breadnuts

help boost metabolism. Thus, consuming breadnut can help in losing weight. Moreover, it

effectively fits into a weight-loss diet plan.

Breadnut has a rich nutrient profile. Therefore, the health benefits are innumerable. It

is abundant in fibre. In addition, fiber keeps one satiated for longer periods of time. As a

result, the urge to snack on unhealthy foods is reduced. Therefore, it helps prevent unhealthy

weight gain. Thus, consuming breadnut can be an ideal food for weight loss. Breadnut is high

in fibre and reduces the tendency to binge eat. It also prevents unhealthy weight gain.

Breadnut dietary fiber aids in the proper functioning of the bowel and intestines by helping to

empty the toxic property from the intestine.it prevents metabolism-related illnesses such as

heartburn, acidity, ulcers, and gastritis by destroying toxic substances from the gut. Breadnut

guards the colon's mucous network by siphoning off cancer-inducing chemicals from the

colon tract. Notably, it includes leucine, isoleucine, and valine. They are vital in building up

muscles. In addition, studies suggest that protein helps boost metabolism. Thus, consuming

breadnut can help in losing weight.

Breadnut is a versatile fruit that belongs to the mulberry and jackfruit botanical

families. They grow across tropical regions and the Pacific Islands, the Caribbean, and

Southeast Asia. Because of their availability, they are part of a staple diet in these locations.

The common areas include Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Southern India. In

addition, due to its nutritional profile, breadfruit is full of health benefits. For example, it is

rich in vitamin C and thiamine. It also contains a high amount of dietary fibre.

At Cabatuan National High School, 15 of the 311 grade 10 students are considered

clinically overweight or obese. Students were subjected to bullying in this instance, including

body shaming. This study will consequently be useful for students who struggle with body

insecurities and are clinically overweight or obese.

Statement of the Hypothesis:

Ho: The Breadnut (Artocarpus Camansi) is not effective as a metabolism booster.

Ha: The Breadnut (Artocarpus Camansi) is effective as a metabolism booster.

PROCEDURE

4.1 A. Preparation of Materials

Manually peel the breadnut and remove the seeds. The researchers prepared or purchased the

other materials for the experiment, such as water and a fruit blender. The specific mix ratio

will depend on the set-ups that the researchers prepared.

4.1 B. Creation of the Product

Wash and peel the breadnut, and remove the seeds. Dry the breadnut meat under the sun's

heat for 3-5 days, depending on the weather. Blend the dried breadnut fruit until it becomes

powder. Mix the powdered breadnut juice with 1 cup of hot water, and strain the mixture

using a mesh strainer to remove the powder.. After you strain the mixture with, allow the

mixture to cool down. Throughout this process, Transfer 1tablespoon of the mixture into the

hamster drinking bottle.

4.2 Preparation of Treatments and Replications

The treatment used in boosting metabolism of the test organisms:

Treatment 1: 3 tablespoon Breadnut Powdered Juice; 1 cup Hot Distilled Water

Treatment 2: Positive Control (Lexative)

Treatment 3: Negative Control (Distilled Water)

4.3 Preparation of test organisms

The test organisms (Syrian Hamster) were bought at Boss D Hamstery at Cordon Isabela. For

each treating namely boosting metabolism, 6 syrian hamster were prepared. Each Treatment

has two test organisms, hence, two replications.

4.4 Collection of Data

For the testing of boosting metabolism agent, each test organisms were weighed and recorded

for 1 week. After 1 week, the group induced saturated fats that allows to increase the weight

of the test organisms. When an increase of 5 % of the test organisms ‘ weight were achieved,

the different treatments were employed. The device used to measure their mass is a weighing

scale. The data gathered was then recorded.

Risk assessment:

Researchers may face various hazards while collecting breadnut (Artocarpus

Camansi) for this study; for example, selecting a breadnut from a tall tree may cause you to

fall and fracture a bone.

Setting of the Study

The research study will be conducted at Czyrene Caranguian's residence in Paraiso

Cabatuan Isabela, Purok Abad, Washington Street under the supervision of Mrs. Marivel V.

Dionicio.

The researchers will compile all the essential components at Ms. Mauricio’s

Household , located at Del Corpuz , Purok 3 Tandang Sora Street . The other materials that

the researchers will use can be found either at their own residence or at the local market .

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The objective of the study is to present the Breadnut (Artocarpus Camansi) Powdered

Juice as an Alternative Metabolism Agent for Body slimming.

The study aimed to answer the following questions:

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

It is believed that the study will benefit the following:

To the Medical Industry. The study's findings could help the medical community better

grasp the medicinal benefits of Breadnut (Artocarpus Camansi). This can also serve as a

foundation for more advanced investigation and identification of the medicinal ingredients

contained in the fruit.

To the Clinically Overweight. To the primary beneficiaries of the study are the clinically

overweight who will benefit positively from the study. The result of the study can be

beneficial to the clinically overweight who struggle with body insecurity.

To the Teenagers. The study could assist teenagers in establishing the right scientific

application of Breadnut (Artocarpus Camansi) for body slimming.

To the Future Researchers. Future researchers will use the findings as a source of

information. As the Breadnut or Artocarpus camansi, is a healthful fruit that might increase

metabolism, future researchers may find this study to be a useful resource. By not limiting the

Hamster, it might inspire and push them to further expand it into a wider point of view.

DEFINITION OF KEY TERMS

The following terms are used to further understand the study:

Artocarpus Camansi– is a species if medium-size tree in the family Moraceae. It is native to

New Guinea, the Maluku islands, and the Philippines. It is the wild ancestor of the breadnut

(Artocarpus Camansi) and is also sometimes known as the seeded breadnut, to distinguish it

from its mostly seedless descendant. Breadnut fruits are edible when cooked. The large seeds

can also be roasted and eaten.

Body insecurity- If you have a distorted or negative body image, you may also suffer from

body insecurity. It usually causes an unrealistic view of how you see your body. People of all

genders can struggle with body insecurity.

Clinically Overweight- Overweight and obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat

accumulation that presents a risk to health.

Dietary fibre- also known as roughage or bulk, includes the parts of plant foods your body

can't digest or absorb. Unlike other food components, such as fats, proteins or carbohydrates

— which your body breaks down and absorbs — fiber isn't digested by your body.

Metabolism- Converting food into energy. Metabolism is the process by which the body

changes food and drink into energy. During this process, calories in food and drinks mix with

oxygen to make the energy the body needs. Even at rest, a body needs energy for all it does.

Metabolism Booster- Metabolism boosters are natural dietary supplements that work to

enhance your body's metabolism, resulting in weight reduction that is faster than diet and

exercise alone.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY

Scope

This study focuses on knowing the ability of Breadnut (Artocarpus Camansi) for

slimming body of hamster. The study will be conducted at Ms. Caranguian’s House. There

are 6 Hamster in the study which are selected because they have a genetic, biological and

behavior characteristics that closely resembles human. Six hamster will undergo different

treatment, the 2 hamster will be observed for 1 week of taking Artocarpus Camansi juice as

an alternative metabolism agent for body slimming. A sample of Artocarpus Camansi juice

will be submitted at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Tuguegarao City for

Phytochemical Testing.

Limitations

The limitations of the study may include the following :

THEORETICAL / CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Breadnut is known by several names, including the Maya nut and Ramon. Breadnut

contains calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, and zinc. Breadnut fruit is

known to be fiber-rich. A single serving consists of 10.8g of dietary fiber. Known to be high

in fiber is breadnut. Dietary fiber has positive health effects, aids in food digestion, and can

lower cholesterol levels. Fiber in food facilitates better bowel motions. It softens the stool by

absorbing water in the intestines. The stool exits smoothly as a result. Hence, meals high in

fiber, like breadnut, guard against indigestion and constipation. They have a low fat level and

are a great source of protein, carbs, and fiber. They contain high levels of potassium, iron,

zinc, calcium, and thiamine in addition to vitamins B, A, and C.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES AND STUDIES

Artocarpus Camansi commonly known as breadnut in English, pana de pepita in

Spanish, kelur or kelor in Indo-Malaysia, kamansi in Philippines, chataigneir in French,

castaña in Guatemala and Honduras, castaño de malabar and chatagne in Trinidad. The

breadnut was introduced into the Caribbean region in 1782.

The scientific term for hamsters is Cricetinae. They are classified as Mammalia and

are members of the Phylum Chordata and Kingdom Animalia. The hamsters are members of

the suborder Myomorpha and order Rodentia. Cricetidae is the family, and Cricetinae is the

subfamily. The subphylum Vertebrata is included in the hamsters' lower classification.

Murodiea is the superfamily in the meantime.

It is well known that breadnut fruit is high in fiber. 10.8 grams of dietary fiber are

included per serving. They're an excellent source of protein, carbohydrates, and fiber while

also being low in fat content. Dietary fiber has health benefits, aids in food digestion, and

may help lower cholesterol levels. Together with potassium, iron, zinc, calcium, and

thiamine, they are high in vitamins B, A, and C. Breadnut is an energy-rich food, high in

complex carbohydrates, low in fat, and a good source of fiber and minerals. They're an

excellent source of protein, carbohydrates, and fiber while also being low in fat content.

Laboratory hamsters acquire a number of genetic disorders that are similar to human

conditions

Drying

Place all of the breadnut meat on the tray and let it to dry in the heat of the sun atleast 3-5

days.

Powdering

Place the dry breadnut flesh in a blender and process until powdered.

Dissolving

In a mixing container, dissolve 25% of the breadnut powder with 1/4 cup of hot water and

mix with room temperature water.

Testing

Laboratory animal testing will determine the quantity of weight that must be lost.

Extracting

Wash the breadfruit and rinse it. After that, peel the breadnut using a knife and remove the

seeds. Slice the fruit into bite-sized pieces and put 50% of the sliced breadnut in the blender

and blend it until it becomes liquid. Slowly pour all the juice into the strainer to separate the

juice, stir to strain faster.

RELATED STUDIES

Local Study

Breadfnut is a traditional staple crop from Pacific islands with the potential to

improve worldwide food security and mitigate diabetes. Flour produced from breadnut is a

gluten-free, low glycemic index, nutrient dense and complete protein option for modern foods

but basic scientific knowledge of health impacts of a breadfruit-based diet in animals and

humans was lacking. We designed a series of studies to provide basic and fundamental data

on impacts of a breadnut-based diet through an in vitro and in vivo model. Cooked breadnut

flour was digested through a multi-stage enzyme digestion model to estimate protein

digestibility in comparison to wheat flour. Breadnut protein was found to be easier to digest

than wheat protein in the enzyme digestion model. The flour digestions were applied to Caco-

2 cells to test the cytotoxicity and to measure the immunogenicity through cytokine

expression. No significant differences were observed for immune factors and cytokines (IL-4,

IL-10, IL-8, TNF-α, IFN-γ) on Caco-2 cells between the breadfruit and wheat groups. A

breadnut-based rodent chow was formulated by substitution of all of the wheat in the standard

formulation with breadfruit. The diets were isocaloric, nutrient equivalent and used to feed

male and female C57BL/6 mice for 21 days. No sign of malnutrition, discomfort, illness or

death was observed among the mice because of the diet. The histology and the cytokine

expression of the mice ileum from both groups were analyzed and showed similar results.

The expression of major bacteria was measured in the colon and showed similar results. Mice

fed the breadnut diet had a significantly higher growth rate and body weight than standard

diet fed mice. No negative health outcomes were observed in studies with in vitro or in vivo

models and breadnut flour is a healthy alternative to other starches for modern foods

Foreign Study

Artocarpus heterophyllus shell powder was investigated in terms of its nutritional and

biological potential. A thorough examination of shell powder demonstrated its potential as a

source of minerals, β carotene and dietary fiber, which were assessed gravimetrically &

spectrophotometrically. This showed 3.05 ± 0.19 g 100 g−1 DW of alkaloids followed by

saponins and tannins. Three different extracts; acetone, methanol, & mix solvent were used to

evaluate phenolic & flavonoid content, antioxidant & antimicrobial activity, GC/MS

screening and quantitative analysis of polyphenols. Among all, the methanol extract showed

highest antioxidant activity evaluated by DPPH, FRAP & ABTS assays and was significantly

correlated with phenolic and flavonoid contents. Phenolic & flavonoid content was found to

activity showed that L. monocytogenes was more susceptible to all extracts followed by other

microorganisms. Catechin, ascorbic & chlorogenic acids were identified as major

polyphenols analyzed by LC-MS/MS. GC/MS analysis showed that it contains a variety of

compounds with different therapeutic activities. The study revealed that a heterophyllus shell

is a good source of natural antioxidants & other bioactive compounds and can be used in

cosmetics, medicines and functional food application.

can contribute to weight loss.

The fact that local studies are conducted out in local communities sets them apart from

was examined in comparison to studies conducted abroad. It is a long-standing staple crop

from the pacific islands that has the potential to improve food security worldwide and reduce

diabetes.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the methodology selected for the proposed study. It covers planned

research design, study area, research instruments. List of materials, list of ingredients,

treatment of the study, the general procedure, data gathering procedure and data analysis will

be explained.

The researchers collated, categorized, organized, and tailed the data after it was collected.

They were statistically processed in order to answer the study's questions.

Frequency. The number of respondents' scores for each criteria will be counted and tallied.

4.1 A. Preparation of Materials

Manually peel the breadnut and remove the seeds. The researchers prepared or purchased the

other materials for the experiment, such as water and a fruit blender. The specific mix ratio

will depend on the set-ups that the researchers prepared.

4.1 B. Creation of the Product

Wash and peel the breadnut, and remove the seeds. Dry the breadnut meat under the sun's

heat for 3-5 days, depending on the weather. Blend the dried breadnut fruit until it becomes

powder. Mix the powdered breadnut juice with 1 cup of hot water, and strain the mixture

using a mesh strainer to remove the powder.. After you strain the mixture with, allow the

mixture to cool down. Throughout this process, Transfer 1tablespoon of the mixture into the

hamster drinking bottle.

4.2 Preparation of Treatments and Replications

The treatment used in boosting metabolism of the test organisms:

4.3 Preparation of test organisms

The test organisms (Syrian Hamster) were bought at Boss D Hamstery at Cordon Isabela. For

each treating namely boosting metabolism, 6 syrian hamster were prepared. Each Treatment

has two test organisms, hence, two replications.

4.4 Collection of Data

For the testing of boosting metabolism agent, each test organisms were weighed and recorded

for 1 week. After 1 week, the group induced saturated fats that allows to increase the weight

of the test organisms. When an increase of 5 % of the test organisms ‘ weight were achieved,

the different treatments were employed. The device used to measure their mass is a weighing

scale. The data gathered was then recorded.

Table 1 shows the initial mass of the Syrian hamster after purchasing in the shop.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Conclusion

Artocarpus Camansi, the scientific name of the tree that produces the spiky, globular green

fruit, grows in tropical regions and coastal provinces. Here at the Philippines, it is called

camansi or pakak. Therefore, as the researchers conducted the experiment they found out that

Breadnut fruit (Artocarpus Camansi) is an alternative metabolism agent for body

slimming ,lower cholesterol, combat infections, support young skin and healthy hair, and

lower bad cholesterol. It is a diabetic-friendly food because it has a healthy amount of fiber,

which slows down the rate at which glucose is absorbed. It is bursting with potassium, a

heart-friendly vitamin that controls blood pressure and heart rhythm.

Recommendations

The researchers recommend the following:

1.The following researchers can use the breadnut seed or breadnut peel as an alternative

product.

2. If the consumer would like to lower their weight and for their body to slim quickly the

researchers recommend commercial products but if they want to save money they could use

the breadnut powdered juice though it takes time it is still effective.

3. Further study is also recommended.
