Beyond the classroom!


The summer assignment in English will help you to enhance your educational quotient!
Do away with monotony and explore your English Literature books as they hold the mirror
up to different aspects of life and people.
Instructions : Use 2 pages of your blue Literature notebook. Make a neat and
attractive research project on any ONE of the following:

CHOOSE ONLY ONE TOPIC FROM THE FOLLOWING LIST:

1. Use 2 pages to create a profile of the famous author Ruskin Bond OR James Herriot OR
H.G. Wells. Put interesting facts and pictures and autobiographical details about him. Add
details of famous books, quotes or stories written by him.

2. Use 2 pages to present an analysis of Robert Frost OR Walt Whitman OR Carl Sandburg
as a famous American Poet. Find some of the famous poems / lines written by this poet on
poemhunter.com. Add details about the poet’s life.

3. Read the section, Glimpses of India, on page 85 of your textbooks: First Flight. Based
on this choose any ONE of the following tasks:

Choose a destination in India which is on your wish list for the winter vacations. Create 2
pages about this place which includes : things to do / places to see / food trail/ places or
persons of interest. Add relevant pictures and information. Give your reason for wanting
to visit.

OR

Collect information about tea and coffee: their evolution as a drink, their beneficial
qualities and their cultural relevance. Use 2 pages of the notebook to make a comparison
between the two. Include history, brewing process, recipes, medicinal values and any other
interesting fact.

4. Use 2 pages of your notebook and prepare a Book Review on: Diary of a Young Girl by
Anne Frank.

Include the following in your Book Review:


● Theme / analysis
● Important features of the characters
● Relevant and interesting incidents
● How you were impressed by the book.

Important Note : The homework must be original and the proper references should be
made in accordance with the task.

SOCIAL SCIENCES

CBSE Project Work


Objectives: The overall objective of the project work is to help students gain an insight
and understanding of the theme and see all the Social Science disciplines from an
interdisciplinary perspective. Students will be able to apply their prior conceptual
knowledge that they have learnt over the years in order to prepare the project report. If
required, students may go out, collect data and use different primary and secondary
resources to prepare the project. The project work will help in art integration, enhancing
the Life Skills of the students.

Material/Resources Required:

Sustainable development is based on optimum and judicious use of resources, their


conservation; reuse , reduce and recycle resources; sustainable use of waste generated by
a number of factories.

Social Issues - Any one of the following social issues- poverty, child labor, gender
inequality, unemployment,caste, literacy, hunger, dowry system can be taken up. You can
present your project to discuss the topic, prevailing conditions and solutions to tackle the
problem.

The Project work will be assessed on the following: content accuracy, originality,
Presentation and creativity.

Work Specification:
The project work should include- Title/ cover page, list of content, Introduction,main
content, conclusion.

GEOGRAPHY

Material/Resources Required:
Geography Notebook, colours, drawing material, pictures and diagrams from the internet.

Instructions:
Design the title page of the project using your creativity. Present the work aesthetically
in the geography notebook.
Work Specification:
● Rainwater Harvesting: Many areas in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Odisha, Madhya
Pradesh face acute water scarcity. In Tamil Nadu underground water is almost
depleted. The only solution to solve the water woes is Rain Water Harvesting- save
it in depressions, recharge wells, reservoirs or divert into inundation canals. Prepare
this short research based project highlighting the efforts of self help groups eg.
Jal Saheli, jal panchayat and suggest other methods of rain water harvesting.
Complete your pending tasks and map work.

Instructions:
Economics is one of the social sciences, which has great influence on every human being.

As economic life and the economy go through changes, the need to ground education in
children’s own experience becomes essential. While doing so, it is imperative to provide
them opportunities to acquire analytical skills to observe and understand the economic
realities.

The economics courses also contain many projects and activities. These will provide
opportunities for the learners to explore various economic issues both from their day-to-
day life and also from issues, which are broader and invisible in nature. The academic skills
that they learn in these courses would help to develop the projects and activities.

A. Project Work
Prepare a PPT in groups of 4 - 5 students on any one of the given topics. You are also
required to submit the print out of all the slides (max 15 slides).

B.Perform any 2 of the following activities and record your observations in your Physics
Register. Paste pictures or draw diagrams wherever possible to enhance the presentation
of your work.
Work Specification:
1. Find out which planets will be visible in the night sky in your vacation month. Spot
them in the sky, record their rising and setting time. You may use a night sky map.
2. Take a small Laser Light source (available as a small pen or a keychain) and make it
incident upon a glass tumbler half filled with water and dettol. Record your
observation explaining the phenomena upon shining the laser beam from one side of
the tumbler on the lower and upper halves . Draw a labeled diagram for the same.
3. Observe your own image in a vanity mirror, a plane mirror and your car's side view
mirror. Explain the difference in the images formed. Draw appropriate diagrams to
support your observations.
