Step 2: Click on [..] to move to the folder one level up. The style file list is automatically updated
whenever a folder is selected. When a style file is selected, the pattern list and the size list
are updated.
Step 3: Double click on the desired folder name. The Style Folder Path shows the path to the
selected folder name.
8
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Step 4: Select the desired Style File, and then click [SELECT], or double click on the Style File
name. The Create New Marker File dialog box appears:
Step 5: Enter the desired Marker name in Maker ID. Marker ID is used to name marker files.
When starting a new marker, a new Marker ID is needed to separate the new marker from
the existing marker files.
Step 6: Click [OK] to apply. The Marker Order Entry dialog box appears:
Plot Remarks: Type in any notes or remarks about this marker. Remarks will appear in the
marker. Each marking group has its own plot remarks. Therefore, when the marker group
is switched by clicking on the marker group label, the plot remarks field shows the
corresponding information.
9
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Style: This is the name of the style from which the marker is being created.
Buffering: This allows the user to add a buffer around the edge of the pattern if the pattern
has buffering defined in PDS. The option applies to all marker groups.
Bundle Shading: This option tells the program to shade each bundle of patterns with the
same size has different shades of the same color. This option applies to all maker groups.
Copy Order Quantity From SELF Marker Group: This tells the program to copy the
order information from the SELF group to every other group in the marker. In the above
example, the LIN1 group would receive the copied information.
Total: This sums up the total amount of patterns in each group that will be on the marker.
Apply Option to All Marker Groups: This tells the program that the settings you
configure for one marker group will be copied to every other marker group.
Setting for SELF: This changes when the user clicks on a marking group name above.
Fabric Pattern: Select Stripes/Plaid for stripes or checkered fabric. Enter the location of
the Stripe/Plaid control point. The user can enter these specifications by entering the X
Repeat, the Y Repeat, and the X Offset. The user can also set whether to include a Y
Offset. The option can be set to none, to center the Y offset, or to enter a custom Y offset.
Lay Direction:
Per Bundle: Separate and lay each set of bundles by alternating direction. (180 degree
rotation)
Per Size: Separate and lay each set of sizes by alternating direction.
Shrinkage Control (use with caution): Enter the X, Y Scale factors in % according to
shrinkage. This shrinks/stretches patterns in the marker. The user can scale the X and Y
coordinates separately by entering different numbers, or proportionally by entering the
same percentage numbers in the entry fields.
Level On Grain Line: This allows the Grain Line to override the Fabric Line. With this
option, a pattern with both the grain line and the fabric line is oriented so that the grain line
is level. If this option is not on, such pattern is oriented so that the fabric line is level.
10
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Facing Pair Pattern: This allows Paired patterns to face each other.
Folded Fabric: If there is a pair pattern on the marker, this option automatically deletes
one of the pairs.
Tubular: If a mirror pattern was created in PDS with the Keep Folded for Tubular Marker
option selected, the pattern piece is not unfolded when a marker is created with this option
enabled.
Step 7: Check the Total Quantity in Total. Always check your calculations with the computer-
generated quantity.
Step 8: Click OK. The Voice Activated sound support will sound “Done.”
11
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The user can select what to see in the pattern preview window. They can either see a
specific pattern inside of the style file itself, all of the patterns inside of the style file, the
front of the pattern as an image, or the back of the pattern as an image.
Step 2: Click on [..] to move to the folder one level up. The style file list is automatically updated
whenever a folder is selected. When a style file is selected, the pattern list and the size list
are updated.
Step 3: Double click on desired folder name. The Style Folder shows the path to that folder name.
Notice: If the user can’t find the specific style file they are looking for, they can conduct a search by
clicking on the FIND button at the bottom right of the window. There, the user will be
presented with a host of functions that will assist in searching for missing or misplaced files.
The user can search by File Type (either by searching for Style Files or Marker Files),
and then narrow the search down to File Names, File Dates, or Style Description. If
the search is done by file name, use a wild card '*' if necessary. As example, if "my*" is
entered, any style file that starts with "my" will be listed. When done entering the filtering
information, the user can just press on the Search button to begin the search. When a file
has been found, it can be opened directly from this dialog box by simply pressing the Open
button or double clicking the style file name in the search result list.
12
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
After conducting a search within the existing markers, the user can press on the new
“Delete Markers” button to delete all of the markers in the search result list.
Note: This will permanently delete all of the markers from the list. This is a dangerous operation,
especially if the user deselects the option to save a backup of the file on the hard disk.
Because the operation is so powerful, the user is required to confirm the delete operation
before it actually takes place. This is an extra safeguard against mistakes.
Step 5: Click [SELECT]. The Open Marker File dialog box appears:

Patterns that have no color in the lower rack are Unplaced (unmarked) pieces.
Select the Hanger tool if you wish to move pattern(s) that are Unmarked in the
lower rack to the upper rack.
Step 3: Click to select Slide tool icon. The Slide tool is the most frequently used marking
tool and it is the default tool.
Step 4: Click and drag pattern(s) to the location to be marked, and then release the mouse button.
You must select pattern(s) that are in the lower rack to mark them. To move any patterns in
the lower rack, click on the desired pattern to pick up, or click and drag to make a box
around multiple patterns to pick up, then move the selection to the desired location and
click to position it.
The Pattern(s) move to the location where you have dragged them to, and they change
colors as they are being marked. A vertical line appears to the right of the marked pattern(s),
which indicates the end of the marker.
You only need to drag your selected patterns in direction of which they are going to be
marked at. The computer will automatically calculate and position markers to the closest
possible marking space from surroundings.

2 The Marking-Tools
The Marking-Tools pull-down menu includes all of the Marking Toolbar functions.
17
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Step 1: Select the tool icon from the Marking Toolbar. Right-click on any blank space of the
fabric then click to select Rack All or press [F3]. This moves any pattern(s) that are
unmarked from the lower rack to the upper rack automatically.
There is an Upper View pattern arrangement by Style and Size. Within the same size,
each bundle is grouped together. This allows lowering each bundle at a time.
This is the default behavior for the arrangement by Style and Size. Prior to this change,
pieces with the same size were not grouped by bundle code. For instance, if there are 3
bundles for size Small, they would all be arranged by the pattern width and therefore 3
bundles would be mixed.
2.2 Rack
This function moves only the selected patterns to the upper rack. The Rack Hanging
option controls the behavior of each pattern, such as restoring rotation and flip operation.
Refer to the section on Options menu for further discussion.
Step 1: Select the tool icon from the Marking Toolbar. Right-click on any blank space of
the fabric then click to select Rack, or press the [F4] key.
Step 2: Position the tool pointer on the pattern that you want to move to the upper rack, and then
click to apply or click and drag to make a box around multiple patterns to move up. This
automatically moves the selected pattern(s) to the upper rack.
Step 1: Select the tool icon from the Marking Toolbar. Right-click on any blank space of the
fabric then click to select Unhide All.
18
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Step 1: Select the tool icon from the Marking Toolbar or press [F12]. You can Right-Click
on the pattern to rotate it 180 degree. Choose Rotate 180 CW from the Marking-Tools
Menu
Step 2: Position the tool pointer on the pattern to rotate, and then click to apply. Dragging an area
to grab multiple patterns would rotate them 180 degrees. The rotation of each pattern is
done with respect to the center of the dragged selection box area. For more information,
please see the Option Menu’s Rotation Mode.
When using the Rotate 90 Degrees and Rotate 180 Degrees tool, if the ALT key is
pressed when multiple pieces are wrapped, each piece rotates with respect to its own
center. Otherwise, each piece rotates with respect to the center of the selection box.

2.5 Rotate 90 CW
This function rotates a pattern 90 degrees clockwise.
Step 1: Click to select the tool icon from the Marking Toolbar or press [F11]. Choose
Rotate 90 CW from the Marking-Tools menu. Click on a pattern to rotate it 90 degrees.
Dragging an area to grab multiple patterns would rotate them all 90 degrees.
Notice: The rotation of each pattern is done with respect to the center of the dragged selection box
area. This means that if a set of patterns is selected, it will rotate on an axis, which is the
center of the selected area.
2.6 Rotate
This function rotates the selected pattern(s) freely or by rotation angle input:
Step 1: Select the tool icon from the Marking Toolbar or press [F9]. Right-click on any
blank space of the fabric (marker area), and then click to select Rotate. This method
performs the same function as the tool icon.
Select Set Default Rotation Mode from the Setting Menu to enable/disable
Dynamic/Static Rotation options. Select the desired Rotation Mode.
Angle bar
Dynamic Mode: To Rotate pattern freely. Click on the pattern to rotate, and then drag the
tool pointer to rotate the selected pattern in any angle.
Static Mode: To Rotate pattern(s) according to the Rotation Angle inputs. Enter the
desired Rotation Angle in degrees or use the Angle bar to select desired angle, then click
[OK] to apply.

2.7 Flip
This function allows the user to flip pattern(s) (Only the patterns that have Allow Flip
property selected can be flipped). The pattern's Allow Flip property can be set in the
Pattern Property window using the StyleCAD PDS program or the Pattern Info window in
the marking program. If the pattern has the property set in the style file, all marker patterns
will inherit that property.
Step 1: Select Pattern Info icon or press [F8] to view pattern’s property.
21
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Step 2: Position the tool pointer on the pattern to view its property. The Pattern Information
window appears:
Step 5: Position the tool pointer on the pattern that you have selected Allow Flip then click to
apply. Flipped patterns have diagonal hatch lines on them:
22
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The flip tool allows multiple pattern flipping. Drag a selection box around multiple
pieces and each piece is flipped with respect to the center of the selection box. This is
similar to how the 90 deg/180 deg rotation tool works.
The flipping is always done left to right, but only in the multiple pattern flipping operation.
This is unlike the single pattern flip where the flipping alternates between top-to-bottom
and left-to-right.
2.8 Slide
The Slide tool is the main marking tool that is used by the user. Its primary use is to move
pattern pieces around and place them. In the simplest form, it can be used to simply pick
up a pattern and drop it somewhere else. When the tool is used to pull a pattern(s) (read
the description of how to do this below), the pattern will travel in the pull direction first,
then if it collides with other marked patterns or the marker border, it tries to travel as far as
it can by sliding around obstructions. The pattern comes to rest when it becomes wedged
in so that it cannot advance any further.
Step 1: Select the tool icon from the Marking Toolbar or press [Esc]. This is the default
marking tool to be used to mark pattern(s). Pull a pattern piece by starting a dragging
action from inside the pattern to direct the slide. The dragging amount can be as short as
several pixel lengths. Another method is to first pick up a pattern (by doing a single click
inside the pattern) or multiple patterns (by using the selection box), dragging it/them
around, and finally sliding it/them into place by another sliding action. After picking up
patterns, you will notice that the patterns will follow the cursor. Start the sliding action by
depressing the left mouse button, followed by mouse movement, then finally left mouse
button release.
This tool, as well as the Anchor and Pushpin tools, has a set of options that control how
the tool works. Selecting Slide/Anchor/Pushpin Tool Options from the Option Menu
can access the window.
Most of the options in this window are self-explanatory, but also have a small box next to
them with information on how each option works.
The Pattern Outside Warning option alerts the user when a pattern has been placed
outside of the marking area.
The Pattern Overlap Warning option alerts the user when a pattern is overlapping
another pattern when placed on the marker.
The Auto Pattern Placement option allows the user to find the nearest empty space for a
pattern once it is dropped next to another pattern.
The Drop Pattern Placed option marks a pattern as placed wherever it is dropped.
23
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The Slide Increment entry field allows the user to specify the amount of movement made
each time a pattern slides. If this option is off, then the movement is unlimited. For
example, if 0.13 inches is selected, then a pattern will only be able to slide 0.13 inches each
time it moves.
The Auto Pattern Gap option allows the user to specify the amount of gap around each
pattern that is placed on the marker. If the Automatic Pattern Gap button on the main
toolbar is pressed on, the Auto Pattern Gap amount is applied to each pattern being marked
using the slide/anchor tools.
When the user clicks OK, the changes will take effect.
A few new advance features have been added to the slide tool to make it even more
powerful. The first is Dynamic Rotation during pattern dragging. This new feature is
controlled by a new option that has been added to the Slide Tool Option window. Once
this flag is turned on, a pattern can be easily rotated using the slide tool without
switching to the rotate tool. First, pick up a pattern for dragging with the slide tool. If
the Control key is down when the mouse is moved, any movement of the pointer results
in the rotation of the pattern rather than movement.
24
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The second new feature is Automatic Rotation of the sliding pattern to achieve flush-
alignment of the pattern with the touching pattern when it comes to rest. The user must
select the side of the pattern to be considered by crossing the side with the slide tool
rubber band (the pull direction line) while the SHIFT key is pressed.
The requirements for this operation are, first, the option must be turned on from the Slide
Tool Options window, and second, the selected side must be a straight line longer than 4
inches. In future releases, this limitation will be removed to handle near straight lines.
If a pattern taller than the marker width is slid, the operator is automatically given an option
to cut the piece to fit the marker width. The seam width and whether to put notch for the
seam is configured using the Slide Tool options window under the Options menu.
Slide action with ALT key behaves as the anchor tool. This eliminates having to switch the
tools.
2.9 Wriggle
This function is used to mark a pattern into a tight space. Sometimes, the slide tool may
not work very well if the space to fit into is surrounded by other marked patterns and the
pattern will barely fit in. Trying to slide in different directions will usually work. But if all
else fails and you are certain that the pattern fits in to the space, use the Wriggle tool. The
restriction of the Wriggle tool is that the pattern must be initially placed near (appox. within
4 inches) the space.
Step 1: Select the tool icon from the Marking Toolbar or press [F2].
Step 2: Position the tool pointer on the pattern that needs to fit into a tight space.
Step 3: Click and drag the pattern to the location to be marked, then release the mouse button to
apply.
25
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
2.10 Anchor
This function is used to mark pattern(s) by sliding it to the very first point where it contacts
with other marked pattern(s) or on the borderline. Unlike the slide tool, the pattern will
travel at the direction of the pull and stops as soon as it comes in contact with other marked
patterns or the marker border.
Step 1: Select the tool icon from the Marking Toolbar or press [F6].
Step 2: Position the tool pointer on the pattern that needs to be anchored.
Step 3: Click and drag the pattern to the location to be marked, then release the mouse button to
apply.
Step 1: Select the tool icon from the Marking Toolbar or press [F5].
Step 3: Click and drag the pattern to the location to be marked, then release the mouse button to
apply.
The window presents the style file name from which the pattern came from, the name of
the specific pattern, the size of the pattern, the marking group that it belongs to, the bundle
code, the number of patterns identical to this one that exist on the marker, the type of the
pattern (if it is a cut pattern, buffered pattern, duplicate pattern, paired pattern, pattern with
Allow Flip turned on), the pattern comment (which is able to be edited here), the area of
the pattern, and the X/Y position of the pattern.
26
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Step 1: Select the tool icon from the Marking Toolbar or press [F8].
Step 2: Position the tool pointer on the pattern to view its information.
Step 3: Select the pattern to view its information. You can select other pattern(s) to view their
information without closing and re-opening the Pattern Info window.
The user may also change the point origin by using the right mouse popup menu on a point
in the pattern viewing area. Simply select the point you wish to set as the origin point,
right-click it, and select the Set Origin menu option from the pop-up menu. This
operation can be applied to multiple patterns.
27
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
At this time, the user can also view the point properties by right-clicking on a point, and
selecting Point Property from the pop-up menu. The user is presented with a window that
allows them to change the Notch Type (select to have no notch, change the notch to a T
notch, change the notch to a V notch, or change the notch to an Out Notch), select the
Notch Angle (in which the user can choose for it to be a normal angle, an angle that is
parallel to the grain line, or a custom angle), and select the Notch Size (with the choices of
¼ inch, 3/8 inch, ½ inch, and ¾ inch). The user can also align the pattern using this point
by selecting the Pattern Align Point option. Plaid Control Point option places the plaid
control point on the selected point for use with plaid/check fabric.
28
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
This dialog shows the buffering amount in case a pattern has been buffered.
The Zoom-In/Out pan left/right/up/down buttons have been added to the window so that
the user can easily measure points that are close together. Also, the selection of a point
with one of the measurement tools snaps to the point to give accurate measurement.
29
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The Pattern Edit Info Button on the Pattern Info Window allows the user to edit
information about any pattern on the marker. The “Style” field allows the user to
change the name of the style file name. The “Name” filed allows the user to change the
name of the pattern. The “Size” field is used to change the base size of the style file.
The “Marking Grp” field contains the name of the pattern’s marking group. The
“Pattern Comment” allows the user to enter a comment about a specific pattern. The
“Bundle Code” sets the pattern’s bundle code. The “QTY” affects the quantity of
bundles in the style file. The “Applies To” field tells the program what to apply these
changes to: the selected pattern only, all patterns with the same name, all patterns with
the same name and size, or all patterns with the same name, size, and side. The
“Pattern Type” options allow the user to configure the type of pattern the selected
pattern will be: a pair pattern, and a flippable pattern.
If a non-pair pattern is made into a pair pattern, then the other (flipped) side of the
pattern is produced. If a pair pattern is made into a non-pair pattern, the other side is
searched and removed. Depending on the apply option, the same operation can be
applied to other similar patterns.
If the QTY of the pattern is modified, additional patterns are produced, or excess
patterns are removed. Depending on the apply option, the same operation can be applied
to other similar patterns.
Once certain information about the pattern is modified so that a conflict occurs between
the information contained in the matching style file, computation of garment yield and
size ratio will not result in the expected answer. Therefore, even though this operation
provides the user much flexibility to control the number of pieces and properties, this
operation should be used with care.
Marker Width, Pattern Scale factor, Fabric Pattern X/Y Repeat, and Lay direction are all
editable from the marker info window. Fusible Blocks and Align Grouped patterns
cannot be rescaled or laid differently.
The Marker Info window displays and prints the total placed pattern area. This figure is
affected by the "Include Fusible Block in Utilization" option. Include Fusible Block in
Utilization considers the fusible block area to be considered as being utilized.
Otherwise, only the actual patterns inside fusible blocks are considered valid utilization
of fabric.
Editing the Marker Width in the Marker Info window is the same as performing the "Set
Marker Width" command. Editing the Fabric Pattern X/Y Offset and Repeat is the same
as performing "Set Fabric Pattern" under the Marking menu. Modifying the Pattern
Scale Factor applies a different scaling to each piece.
A custom buffering feature is available in the Marking module. The use is now able to
limit buffering to a certain section of the pattern outline. The same buffering can be
applied to all pieces with same pattern name, same name/size, same name/side/side etc.
The feature is located in the pattern info window as "Custom Buffer". It asks for the
buffering amount and to select the 2 points. Select the CCW side of the section first.
30
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
2.13 Duplicate
The duplicate tool is used to make copy of a single pattern or multiple patterns. In order to
duplicate multiple patterns, simply drag a box around the patterns with the tool. The
duplicated pieces have same attributes such as name and size except the bundle code. The
next available bundle code is used for duplicated pieces.
In V7, after using the duplicate tool to make duplicate patterns, the pieces are
automatically put into the dragging mode. The user at this point can drop the pieces
anywhere or slide them just as in multiple pieces sliding action.
To copy pattern(s):
Step 2: Position the tool pointer on the pattern to copy or click and drag to make a box around
multiple patterns to duplicate.
Selected pattern to
duplicate
The duplicated patterns are placed on top of the pattern that you are copying from, and are
placed unmarked. It copies all of the pattern’s properties except for the Bundle Code; the
new duplicated pattern(s) are coded with the next available alphabet letter.

StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
2.14 Cut
The Cut tool provides the capability to cut a piece in marking without having to design a
cut piece in PDS. The tool has the ability to add a seam along the cut line. In order to aid
in accurate cutting, the Cut Pattern window provides the cut line position readout. In case
of a mirror pattern, the piece may be cut along the fold line. The user can make a cut by
either entering the actual distance from the edge, or visually by dragging the mouse. The
cutting operation can be undone at any time (even after having saved the file) by
performing “Restore Cut” operation.
Step 2: Select the desired pattern to cut. The Cut Pattern window appears. The cutting line is pre-
selected, so move the mouse to position the Cutting line.

the "Cut Center" button.
34
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The same cut operation may be applied to multiple patterns. For the Cut Along the Fold
Line and Cut Center Line options, the same operation may be applied to all pieces that
match the style and pattern name (and optional filter on size and side). For manual cut
location entry (by text entry or cut line mouse drag and click method), the same operation
may be applied to same size pieces. The routine does not consider the rotation on the
pieces so that the user must be aware that the same vertical / horizontal cutting is
acceptable on all applied pieces.
Step 1: Select the Vertical [F8] tool icon from the Marking Toolbar. The aligning patterns
must have Pattern Align Points selected from Pattern Info.

line. These symbols are used to distinguish between the three types of splice lines. In the
example below, the left most symbol is for the Left Direction Zig Zag Spread. The symbol
in the center is for the One Way Spread. The left most symbol is for the Right Direction
Zig Zag Spread.
2.21 Buffering
This function is used to extend the outlines of selected pattern(s). The buffered shape/size
does not get plotted or printed. The original shape/size of the pattern will be
printed/plotted.

Step 2: Enter the amount of buffering that is desired on each side of the pattern.
The user has the option of selecting how much buffer to add on each side of the pattern.
They can add inches to make the pattern expand (because of the buffer) upward,
downward, left, or right. The user can also simply the task if they are buffering a
proportional amount by entering the first amount, then selecting Apply to All. The Recall
button recalls the last buffer size and enters it into the entry fields.
The user has the option of applying the buffer to the selected patter only, to all of the
patterns with the same name, to all of the patterns with the same pattern name and size, or
to all of the patterns with the same name, size, and side.
The user can also use this dialog box to remove a buffer from a previously buffered pattern.
By simply pressing the Unbuffer button, the buffer will be removed from the selected
pattern.
44
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
There are three different options in terms of the block shape: hull shape, rectangular shape,
or buffering. The Hull shape is a polygon shape that encompasses the group of patterns.
The rectangular shape is the smallest rectangular shape that could enclose the patterns. The
buffering option adds a buffer around each pattern, but not around an entire group of
patterns. A fusible block may be copied to the fusible block marker file.
45
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Step 1: Right mouse click on the space between the patterns that
are laid out and bring up the Inside Marker Popup
Menu.
46
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Buffering: This option adds a buffer around the block. The user can select how much of a
buffer to add, and can select individual pattern sizes for each side.
47
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Creating a Fusible Block (When creating a fusible block from multiple patterns)
The Transferring Fusible Block to Fusing allows the user to copy an already fused block
to the Fusing Marker. The selected fused block is counted as one whole pattern block. If
the fusible block is done with the Detach the Fused Block Pattern option selected, the
enclosed shape itself counts as one pattern.
The new option, "Persistent with Axis," has been added to the option window (Marking-
Tools -> Fusible Block). When the option is selected, the Rotate 90/180 deg tool
reapplies the buffering amount and the cut corner option so that the up/down/left/right
value stays valid after the rotation.
48
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Also, a Fusible Block can be created and nested automatically. The user selects the
member patterns by dragging a box around them and selecting the "Auto" button.
The member patterns are automatically nested inside a rectangular area whose height is
defined by the user. The dragged box height is initially used as the default height but
the user may change the value.
The user is given the option to resize the buffering amount before copying the fusible
block to fusing marker. The option is given only if the fusible block originally had a
buffering amount.
A rectangular fusible block can be opened up so that more pieces can be added to or
removed from the block. First select the fusible block tool. Using the tool, point to the
fusible block and bring up the right mouse button menu. Select the "Open Up Fusible
Block" command. The fusible block should open up to the right and be extended. Using
the same tool, slide patterns into the fusible block. Once the fusible block is complete,
bring up the right mouse button again and select the "Close Fusible Block" command.
49
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The operator can actually add more pieces to a fusible block and auto-mark again with
the new pieces by simply placing other pieces on top of the fusible block and
performing the "Automark with New Pieces" command. This command, located in
the right mouse button menu, is only available with the fusible block cursor.
50
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
As discussed earlier in this manual, the Incremental Slide Mode tells the Slide tool how
much to move the pattern on each move. For example, if the Incremental Slide Mode is
off, the pattern will be able to move an infinite distance on each move (until it hits an
edge or another pattern). But if the Incremental Slide Mode is set to 0.13 inches, then
patterns moved with the Slide tool will only be able to move 0.13 inches on each move.
This is useful when exact movements are necessary to properly arrange a pattern on a
marking surface. To access this option, the user must go to Option ->
Slide/Anchor/Pushpin Tool Options. To set the amount of incremental slide, the user
must enter the amount in the Sliding Increment field. This option can be enabled from
the right mouse popup menus outside the marker area or inside the marker area.
The Scale Pattern Icon on the Marking Toolbar allows the user to change the size
of the pattern in a proportional or non-proportional manner. When the user chooses this
icon, then clicks on a pattern, a dialog box appears. This dialog box lets the user define
several options for scaling the patterns.
Entry Type: The user can select whether to enter an exact measurement for the scaling,
or choose a percentage of the original.
51
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Delta Measurement: If “Measurement” is chosen as the Entry Type, the user can enter
the specific values for resizing the pattern.
Scale Percentage: If “Percentage” is chosen as the Entry Type, the user can choose by
what percentage the pattern is scaled.
Scale Int. Lines: This option enables/disables the scaling of internal lines.
After the user has made their selections, they can click the OK button to apply those
selections. The tool can be applied to multiple patterns. Use the selection box dragging
method to select multiple patterns.
The scale operation can be applied to all patterns with the same name, same name/size,
same name/size/side (pair pattern). This new apply method option does not apply when
a group of patterns are selected with the scale pattern tool (selection box method).
The scale factor is remembered for each scaled pattern. If the Scale Pattern Tool is
applied to an already scaled pattern, the current scale factors are displayed. Repeated
scale operation does not result in the accumulation of scaling. In other words, the
scaling operation is relative to the original pattern size.
A scaled pattern can be restored back to its original size by performing the "Undo
Scaling" function. This function is located in the pattern popup menu.
52
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
By right-clicking on a pattern, the user is presented with a pop-up menu designed to set
certain options related to this tool.
53
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Waste Cutting Options: Cuts waste material for easy disposal. The cut-
direction display mode in the marking program can also show cut lines that
cut extra fabric at the top and the bottom of the marker. This feature
applies to users that are using cutting machines only. The user can set the
interval for these cut lines. StyleCAD determines the best way to cut this
extra waste material. The user may remove these cut lines or move the cut
line starting point to another point or add additional cut lines. A waste
material cut line is started from a pattern point with a straight edge that is
longer than the blade thickness.
A cut direction change operation can be applied to multiple patterns with the same name,
same name/size, or same name/size/side (in case of a pair pattern). This operation is
undoable. This new feature can save a cutting machine user a lot of time by eliminating
the need to perform the same operation multiple times.
54
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
A Cutting Order Editing feature has been added to the cut direction change mode. The
Cut Direction control tool can be used to control the cutting order of pieces. A Left Mouse
button click orders the pieces sequentially. Each pattern is labeled with the cutting order
number near the center of the pattern. The first pattern selected becomes number 1 and
the second pattern selected becomes number 2 and so on. Once a pattern’s cutting order
has been assigned, the pattern is filled in with blue color. The right mouse button menu
command "Set Cutting Order" allows the shuffling of the pieces without having to
sequentially order the entire marker.
For pieces with non-bidirectional cut direction, "Different Start for CCW Cut" allows the
user to control the cut start position of pieces with CCW cut direction. This control is
completely independent from the cut start position of pieces with CW cut direction.
This additional control can really help with pair patterns in terms of maintaining
symmetry between 2 matching pieces.

If a marker that belongs to the SELF (or the equivalent marker group alias) marker group is
opened, all other marker groups with the same marker ID are automatically opened. If a
marker contains multiple marker groups, the Page Up/Down key allows the user to shuffle
through them. The Regenerate List button on the Open Marker window scans the
marker folder to make sure that the actual marker file exists for each marker ID in the list.
If the actual marker file does not exist, the marker ID is removed from the list.
59
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The user can see the Marker ID, the Group that the Marker belongs to, the Width and
Length of the Marker, the number of patterns placed, the Fabric Yield, the Utilization of
Fabric, a Remark (if one exists), and the name of the user that last modified the Marker,
along with the date of the last modification.
The marker list can be sorted by marker groups or by modified date. When the list is sorted
by the modified date, the marker list shows up in descending modified date order (the most
recently modified markers are displayed first). When this option is not selected, the list if
ordered by the marker ID in alphabetical order as usual.

Done (Green): All pieces are marked and complete. The Voice Activated Sound Support
will sound “Done.”
Partial (Yellow): Marking is partially done. A Warning message will remind you that
marking is incomplete.
None (Red): None of the patterns have been marked. Warning message will remind you
that marking is incomplete.
This dialog box shows all of the information about previously captured snapshots,
allowing the user to select the one they want. The snapshot markers are grouped by their
marker group. The list box to the left shows the marker groups that were captured in
the snapshots. The main box shows the Ranking of the Snapshots, the fabric Utilization
of a particular Snapshot, the number of patterns Placed, the Length of the Marker, the
garment Yield, the Width of the Marker, and the Time that the snapshot was created.
After choosing a snapshot, click OK to select it, or Delete to delete it.
3.9 Snapshot
The Snapshot button allows the user to capture a specific marker layout for future use.
Since a marker can have several solutions (some better than others), it gives the user the
ability to save a snapshot of a good solution while they try to find a better solution,
always having the option of going back to a previous snapshot if they so choose.

3.10 Print
This function is used to print out a Mini Marker: There are 2 different print formats
available. The single page format provides a hardcopy of the marker layout with some
marker information. The multiple page format fits the marker width to the length of the
page and uses up as many pages as necessary to print the entire marker. Both landscape and
portrait modes are supported.
Step 1: Select the tool icon from the Main Toolbar or select it from File pull-down menu.
The user can select from a wide array of print options for the Mini Marker. They can select
the Font Height, the Print Format, the Notch Height Size, and the Notch Width Size.
They can also decide whether or not to print the Style Image, any Grain Lines, Color
Patterns (as opposed to black and white), and Fitting Labels.
For detailed information on how to print, please refer to the Grading Manual’s Print
section.
To preview Mini Markers on the screen before printing them out, see Grading Manual’s
Print Preview section.
The Mini Marker displays and prints the total placed pattern area. This figure is affected by
the "Include Fusible Block in Utilization" option. Include Fusible Block in Utilization
considers the fusible block area to be considered as being utilized. Otherwise, only the
actual patterns inside fusible blocks are considered valid utilization of fabric.
Export Mini Marker to an Image File - The user has the choice of a BMP or JPEG file
format. An Excel user may import these image files for custom reports.

3.11 Undo
The Undo command reverts the marker to the previous condition. This is useful when a
mistake has been made, and the user wants to undo the operation that was just completed.
For detailed information on how to Undo, please refer to Grading Manual’s Undo
section.
65

appear in the main window, such as Fabric Utilization, Current Yield, Modifier, Width,
etc. is available, as well as other information.
The other information includes Cutting Info, Shrinkage Control, Fabric Pattern, Lay
Direction, Customer information, and Plot Remarks.
The user can also enable or disable options in this window. One of these options is whether
to see Summary or Detailed information about the marker. Another option is to select
whether the Marker is Tubular or not, and whether the Fabric is Folded or not. The user
can also choose the Lay Direction of the patterns.
Right-clicking the Pop-up Menu inside of the Marker can access Marker Info.
66
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Notice: A note about Garment Yield. Garment Yield is computed using 2 different methods. The
current default method, which is based on the complete garment count, still remains as the
primary garment yield figure. The second method uses the maximum garment count.
For example, let's say a marker was created with S-2, M-1, L-1 ratio. Let's also assume that
a few pattern pieces were deleted by the user so that only 1 complete (S)mall garment can
be manufactured from the marker. Here is the difference between the two methods of
computation.
The current method ignores all excess pieces during the computation. Excess pieces refers
to all pattern pieces with size S that are left over after making one complete (S)mall
garment. The fabric area used by these excess pieces is subtracted from the total fabric area
used. The proportional percentage of the wasted fabric area is also subtracted from the
total fabric area used. The remaining total fabric area is divided by the complete garment
count, which in this case is three.
The new method does not ignore any excess pieces. The garment count is the maximum
number of garments that can be produced for any pattern. Therefore, even if a few pattern
pieces were removed, as long as a certain pattern piece, for example FRONT, has sufficient
count to produce four garments, four is used in the computation. In other words, the total
fabric area used is divided by four. This new figure is presented in parentheses next to the
default figure in the bottom status bar and the marking info window. If two figures are the
same, the second figure is not displayed. Due to the space constraint, only the Marker Info
print out will provide this information in a hardcopy.
The user can obtain a print out of the marker information window.
The Computation of Sectional Fabric Yields can be performed on a sectional basis for
a sectional marker. A detailed analysis result is provided per section / style, such as
piece count, complete garment count, incomplete garment count, fabric yields based on
complete garment count, and incomplete garment count. The hardcopy feature provides
a print out of the information.
67
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
To access this feature, simply go to Marking -> Compute Sectional Fabric Yields.
The Marker Information window (under the Marking menu) shows incomplete
bundles by color coding the pattern / size cells in the detailed view. Light Red shade
means that the specified pattern / size has extra pieces above the complete bundle count.
Yellow shade means that the specified pattern/size has pieces not yet placed. Light
Orange shade is the combination of both and it means there are extra pieces and some of
the pieces are not placed (nested).
In the above example, we can see that there are several extra pieces that are not placed
FLAP-12, FSK-6, FSK-10, etc), one specified pattern/size has not been placed (TSL-6), and
one pattern piece above the complete bundle count (PKT-12).
Added Export feature to the Marker Info window. The user is able to export a comma-
delimited text file with marker information so that the file can be imported into other
software such as MS Excel.

Job Control – This section, located at the very top of the window, allows the user to
configure specific parameters of this Auto Marking process. The user can input the
duration of the AutoMarking process in minutes, or in percentage achieved (the
AutoMarker will automatically stop once the specified yield is achieved). The user can
decide whether to keep the current placement of the markers, whether to save the best
results, and whether to select the patterns in the lower view only. The user can also
select additional widths in relation to the marking surface. The user can also select the
type of garment that they are submitting to the Auto Marking Server.
73
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The user also has all of the information about the Marking Group available to them at
any time. If there is more than one Marking Group, the user can click the name of the
group to select options for it. All of the settings on the dialog window are independently
maintained for each marking group. For instance, the rotation may be enabled for the
SELF marker group but not for the Fusing 1 marker group.
The Lower View Only option effectively allows the user to control which subset of the
marker to AutoMark. Also, the Keep Current Placement option allows the user to
complete the marker partially and use the AutoMarker to finish the job. If Save Best
Result is not chosen, the best markers are stored as snapshot markers. The user may
view the snapshot results using the StyleCAD marking program. Even if the Save Best
Result is turned on, if the best result does not exceed the current yield of the marker
opened, the marker is not replaced. This applies to a marker that might already have
been completed before being submitted to the AutoMarker.
The absolute maximum number of snapshots (results) is 10. Entering 0 for the number
of results will not produce any snapshot files. The number of marker width to try,
determines the maximum number of snapshots saved for each marker width. For
instance, if the current (default) width of the marker opened is 60 inches wide and the
user requests additional marker width of 55 inches, then the maximum number of
snapshots that can be specified is 5. After AutoMarking, up to 5 snapshots are saved for
the 60-inch marker and another 5 for the 55-inch marker. Of course, the user is not
required to always specify the maximum number allowed. In case multiple marker
widths are entered, the AutoMarking duration applies to each marker width.
Rotation Control – This section allows the user to set whether or not the Auto Marking
process is allowed to rotate the patterns during the operation. This can be beneficial in
saving fabric. A typical rotation tolerance should not be more than 1 or 2 degrees. The
user can also decide whether or not to allow an angle rotation of 90 or 180 degrees of the
pattern. If angle rotation of 90 is specified, then a pattern can be rotated in increments of
90 deg. In other words, it could be rotated 90, 180 or 270 deg. The rotation tolerance,
if specified, is the angular rotation each pattern can be deviated from, in rotation
increments. For example, if the AutoMarking process can come up with an 88.5% result
without rotating the pattern at all, but can come up with an 89% result by rotating a
pattern 1 or 2 degrees, then it may do so. Again, this can be beneficial for saving fabric,
but will not work correctly with certain fabrics.
Notice: Before this function can be used, the Auto Marking server must be configured (in
Setting -> Auto Marking Server Host Name) and running on the server. If the server
is localhost, then the Auto Marking program must be running on the user’s computer.

4.13 Print
This function allows the user to Print the current marker to a standard printer. The marker
print out will be a miniature version of the full size one. This is very useful for designers
that would like to have a preview of what a plotted marker might look like once it is plotted.
There are 2 different print formats available. The single page format provides a hardcopy
of the marker layout with some marker information. The multiple page format fits the
marker width to the length of the page and uses up as many pages as necessary to print the
entire marker. Both landscape and portrait modes are supported.

Importing DXF and Cut file can now be performed when no marker is open. If a valid
marker is not open, the user is given the chance to select the style (create a dummy one
if one does not exists) and specify the marker name. The import routine creates a
marker. If the DXF file has scaling info, metric/Inch info, or marker width information,
the routine extracts these info and defaults to the specified data. For a cut file, the
marker width is derived from the marker shape. The width is assumed to be flush with
the piece with the highest location.
The user can export marking files in the DXF file format using the built-in export file
format controls. The user can set many options, including the CAD vendor selection and
the unit and scale factors.

The Marking Menu contains commands that operate on the entire marker file. Some
commands such as Marker Width and Set Plaid Dimension manipulate the attributes of a
marker file and some operate on the content of the marker file.
90
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Step 1: Click Marker Width from the Marking pull-down menu. The Define Marker Width
dialog box appears:
The Leave Patterns Placed option is selected by default. All patterns stay in their current
position even when the marker width is changed.
Step 2: Click to select desired Adjust Direction. Top: All adjustments that are made take place at
the top of the marker. Bottom: All adjustments that are made take place at the bottom of
the marker.
Step 3: Enter the new width in [Marker Width]. Select Leave Placed Patterns to keep all the
“marked patterns” in their marked state, even if the pattern might be partially outside the
marker area. If the flag is turned off, a pattern that becomes partially/entirely outside the
marker area as result of the marker width reduction is made unmarked (white)
Step 1: Select Merge Marker File from Marking pull-down menu. The process for selecting the
desired marker file is the same as for opening marker files. Please refer to Open Marker
section for more information. The Merged Marker(s) will be placed at the end of the
currently opened Marker file.
A new option, "Resolve Bundle Code Conflict," has been added to the window. If the
option is on and a bundle code in the merged marker conflicts with the original marker, a
new bundle code is assigned automatically in order to resolve the conflict.
91
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
StyleCAD 5.0 Marking allows merging multiple markers. When multiple markers are
merged, the user can sort the merge order. After selecting the markers to be merged, the
user is presented with a list populated with those selected markers. Highlight a marker,
and then use the up/down arrow buttons on the window to modify the merging order.
The first merged marker is placed immediately right of the current end of the marker line
and the second merged marker is placed to the right of the first merged marker and so
on.
Please refer to Marker Info section of this Manual for more information.
The applied marker does not necessarily have to have the same size ratio as the current
marker. The tool does its best match up as many pieces as it can and ignore any excess.

line.
3. Level on Fabric Line - Keep the pattern rotated to be level wrt to the fabric
line.
When additional pieces are inserted using the Insert Pattern command, the user has the
option to assign existing bundle codes or assign new bundle codes..
The user selects the starting bundle code and each bundle inserted will be assigned a
bundle code increasing from the starting bundle code. For instance, 3 bundles were
inserted and the starting bundle code is B, then the 3 bungles added are assigned the
bundle codes of B, C and D.
98
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The user simply selects the Style file from which they would like to take the replacement
pattern, then selects the Pattern group to replace, selects the sizes to replace, then clicks
on the Replace button to execute the action.
Pattern Qty and Pair/Single property change can be applied during the Replace Pattern
operation in marking. If "Apply New Qty/Pair" option is not on, the Replace Pattern
operation simply replaces the existing matching pattern with the new pattern shape
(internals) and new QTY and Pair/Single properties are ignored. If the option is on, it
can have the effect of deleting pieces or adding pieces depending on the current number
of pieces vs. the new Qty and Pair/Single flag.
Step 2: Position the tool pointer on the Pattern that you want to delete, then click on the pattern to
delete it. You can click and drag to make a box around multiple patterns to delete all of
them at once.

9.1 Sound
This function is used to enable/disable the Voice Activated Sound Support. The Sound
Support is a series of sound files that assist the user in the tasks carried out by the program.
A common example is when a process is completed; the program tells the user that it is
done computing by saying (in a delightful human voice) “Done!” This is useful in case the
user is away from their computer, but would like to know when an operation has been
completed.
Step 1: Select Sound from Option pull-down menu. This menu option is turned on by default.
114
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual

Pattern Label Positioning: There are 3 different methods of pattern label positioning.
The Auto Positioning method places the label in the best position possible inside of the
pattern. Center of Pattern places the label in the exact center of the pattern. Center of
Grain Line places the label centered on the grain line.
The user can apply these settings to the pattern only, to patterns with the same name, to
patterns with the same name and size, or to patterns with the same name, size, and side.
Copy Fusible Block to Fusing Marker: Copies the fusible block to the Fusing marker
group. This command applies only to those patterns that are grouped with a fusible
block pattern.

The Folded Fabric option is the feature that the user can use in dealing with folded fabric
when creating a new marker. In Marker Order Entry window, turn on Folded Fabric
option before exiting. This will inform the marker that only one side should be generated
for a paired pattern.
The Cut Point has the capability to change the cut starting point for cut direction control.
By using Pattern Information icon, double click on any of the patterns and bring up Pattern
Information window. Right mouse click on a point of a pattern that is displayed in Pattern
Information window view and select Set Origin. Any point you select to set it as an origin
will be the starting point of the cut direction. Once set, number 1 is displayed near the
point selected.
128
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
This feature applies to a pattern that is not a mirror pattern. The half way point is
computed based on the perimeter distance (halfway point).
The Marker Info window has printing capabilities. The hardcopy contains all the
information on the windows plus an additional list of fabric splice lines, end of marker lines,
and marker division lines if any.
A new feature added to the Slide tool is the incremental movement option. The user may
set the single movement amount in the Setting menu. This is an extended mode for the
Slide tool. In this mode, each slide action results in the pattern piece moving the set
incremental movement amount in the pull direction. The piece is always placed (marked)
regardless of the position of the piece. In other words, it is allowed to overlap other pieces
and be outside of the marking table area. Activate the incremental slide mode by using
either the outside marker popup menu or the inside marker popup menu. Switching to
another tool automatically turns the incremental movement mode off.
A new tool, "Place Stacked" was added to the marking toolbar. It allows stacking some
patterns on top of another in Marking. Some customers call this "cut downs". It is used
when the ratio is hard to arrange with the correct number of plies. Typically, the user places
or slides in the larger size first, then place a smaller size on top. They cut the largest size
out, count off the plies wanted and then cut out the smaller pattern.
129
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
Using the new tool, simply pickup a smaller pattern and drop it over a larger pattern. The
restrictions are that the 2 pieces must have the same style name and pattern name. Also, in
case of a pair pattern, both pieces must be from the same side. The tool lines up the 2
pieces either on the grain line or on the first point. The user may pick the method he likes
from the Options menu. Since, the user now may set the starting point of a pattern using
the Pattern Info window, the user should have a complete control over how the 2 patterns
are aligned.
The Open Marker window contains a new button "Regenerate List". In case the user
deletes marker files using Windows Explorer, this new function updates the StyleCAD
database list so that the missing markers are removed from the database. This gives the
user a quick and dirty way to manage marker files.
Step 1: Right mouse click on the mirror line and bring up Line Property.
130
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The No Cutting for Tubular Marker Property is used to set a line segment to no cutting
line, where it’s replaced with a blue dotted line. When a marker is created with “Tubular”
setting, a cut file is generated from the marker and the line will not be cut. If a marker is
not tubular, any pattern with line segments accompanying this property will cut the outline.
Step 4: Enter the number for each size and turn on the Tubular. Make sure not to forget to turn
on Tubular, since if it is not turned on, the patterns with No Cutting for Tubular
Marker set will not show dotted line.
131

line as illustrated below.
134
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The Marker Length Display Format Window under the Settings menu has been modified to
be more of a general purpose display format control window that allows user control on the
display format of the marker length, marker width (fabric width) and the fabric yield. The
setting affects the status bar display, marker information window display and the hardcopy,
single page/multiple page marker print out and print preview and marker summary window
display.
Of the 2 garment yield figures, the method to compute the 2nd figure (displayed in
parenthesis) has been modified so that it is based on the number of unique bundle codes
used for a particular style.
This feature allows the user to pan left and right through the marker. Simply press the space
bar, and click on an empty space on the marker. Then drag the mouse either left or right to
pan the marker in that direction.
Band Patterns are pieces of fabric that are used to tie together cut fabric bundles. These are
created by adding strips of cloth to the marker. Simply right-click on an empty spot inside
of the marker, and select Make Band Patterns.

141
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
The Waste Cut Setting contains a flag to turn the waste cut processing on/off.
142
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
For reference, the Waste Cut Interval function allows the user to configure at what interval
they want to set the waste cut. The option applies only to the users that are using an
automated cutting machine interfaced to StyleCAD. Waste cutting is the process of cutting
the waste material at the top and bottom fringes to assist in easy disposal of waste material.
StyleCAD’s cutting algorithm can determine the proper place where this waste material
cutting can occur and generate an extra cut command in the cut file. The waste cut interval
is the users’ suggestion to StyleCAD on how often the cutting should occur. The interval
specified will not be strictly adhered by the program, but rather be used as a guideline. The
program tries to stick to the specified interval whenever it is safe to do so. By default, the
option related to this dialog box is turned off, but when it is on it will use the listed
measurement listed to function. The default for this option is 72 inches.
This option tells the marking program not to warn the user if there is no grading data
present on certain patterns. This is useful when the user is aware of this fact, but doesn’t
want to be reminded about it every time the program looks for grading data on a pattern
during the marker order process.
This function is used to configure the host name of the server used to plot the marker. The
default setting is localhost. This setting tells the computer to look for the plot server on the
local computer (the same computer you use for your other programs). If this setting is the
active setting, the user must run the plot server on the computer before submitting a job to
be plotted. If the plot server is on a network computer, the user must enter the name of
that computer before submitting a job to be plotted.
143

computer before submitting a job to be auto marked. If the auto marking server is on a

a. Plot Server Host Name and the port number. The Host Name is the computer name
in MyComputer's property window at the computer where the StyleCAD output
manager is running on. The port number must match the port number declared for
the plot server in the output manager’s program configuration window.
d. Pattern Editor folder path – This folder defines where the PatternEditor50.exe
program is located. This program is located in c:\scad\ folder by default. The
Pattern Editor program can be started from the Pattern Information window and it
allows the operator to modify the shape of the pattern with almost a full set of PDS
tools.
System absolute maximum marker length. – The marking program does not allow plotting
of a marker longer than this length. The user is alerted with a warning message when this
occurs.

19 Workflow-related Tools
A mouse movement over a pattern changes the pattern outline color to blue. Use the
Option -> Highlight Pattern Under Cursor command to enable this. If the pattern
information window is displayed and the "dynamic focus" option is on, the focused
pattern is displayed in the window.
147
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
the piece becomes selected. Unlike the slide tool, the selection cannot be accumulated. If
the Pattern Information window is up, the pattern focus is put on the selected piece. If
the pattern is selected with the SHIFT key down, only the selection and the pattern info
window updates. If the SHIFT key is not used, the tool takes its action in addition to the
selection and the pattern info window update. Once a pattern is selected in this manner,
the arrow keys move the piece even thought the slide tool is not active.
In the Sequential mode, every click on a pattern assigns the next sequential cut order
number. Each assigned pattern turns blue. In the Switch mode, the user clicks 2 pieces.
The cut order numbers of the chosen pieces are swapped. In the Assignment mode, the
user clicks a piece to select it and enters the desired cut order number into the cut order
field and applies it by hitting the ENTER key. The cut order is shifted to accommodate
the new order number.
The Reorder button initiates the automatic cutting order assignment processing. The
automatic assignment is based on the arbitrary cut frame concept. Within each frame, the
default order used by the automatic assignment is first left to right and bottom up. The Cut
Order Control Panel contains an entry filed for the cut frame size so that the user may
modify it before performing the Reorder.
Additional benefit of this method is that even if there is no matching style file for the
marker, it still opens and creates an empty style file. Also, upon saving, the marker ID is
added to the marker ID database, so in essence, this feature can be used as another method
of Marker Import. The proper marker import allows multiple file importing, so it still is the
more powerful way to import.
148
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
19.10 Redo
The user is allowed to redo a previously undone operation. This feature is useful for
redoing operations that were accidentally undone.
During new marker entry, when a marker group has 0 entry, a warning is provided to the
user. At this point, the user may select "Yes to All" to suppress all further warnings for
other marker groups. This can be useful when there are several marker groups with 0
entry.
Also, the "Grading not complete" warning was has a similar warning system, so that the
user can skip other warnings.
149
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
150
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
This is very powerful feature in that it helps the user to easily isolate certain pattern
pieces easily and also to perform operations on certain group of pieces only.
The program also remembers the View Filter’s position, allowing it to re-appear in the same
spot when the program restarts.
151
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
These stop lines work similar to end of marker lines and marker division lines in that the
pattern advances with the slide/anchor tool, and stops when the pattern hits the line.
These lines allow the user to easily create a temporary grouping of a few pieces nested
without having to be inside of the actual marker. These pieces can be grouped together
using the new "Group Selected Patterns" command.
In this example, we
pressed both V and
H, and then dragged
some patterns out of
the marker. These
are the patterns we
want to group.
152

in the corresponding direction by the specified amount of the incremental move. The
amount of the incremental move is defined in the Slide/Anchor/Pushpin Option
window. This works only when a single pattern is selected (red outline). The arrows keys
do nothing if multiple pieces have the selection highlight. In order to select another
pattern, first erase the selection on the current one by clicking outside the marker border or
outside any pattern outline. Then click a piece with the SHIFT key. The reason for the
clearing of the selection highlight is because selection with the SHIFT key will accumulate
the selection. In StyleCAD, the SHIFT key is normally associated with the accumulation of
a selection. The SHIFT key is necessary to select the piece without lifting it with the slide
tool. Without the SHIFT key pressed, the left mouse button click lifts up the piece.
The user can define the maximum allowed marker length in the program configuration
window. An automarking solution that exceeds the maximum allowed marker length is
highlighted by preceding the entry with "***" in the log list. Also, if a marker that exceeds
the maximum length is opened in marking or in output manager for plotting or cutting, the
user is warned of the marker length.

StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
This feature provides a special tool that takes the arrangement of selected pieces, and then
repeats the same arrangement for other unplaced pieces that match the pattern’s
style/name/size/side (if the pattern is a PAIR pattern). The repeating continues vertically
up to the top marker border, and for as long as the program finds patterns that match the
criteria. Every piece in the selected group must have an unplaced match, otherwise the
repeating stops.
In order to select a group of patterns for this, use the SHIFT-drag selection technique.
After the selected pattern's outline turns red, Right-click to bring up the pattern’s pop-up
menu, and then select the "Repeat Placement" command. This feature can be useful when
there are a large number of small pieces for each size (a good example is a style for a doll),
and manually marking the pieces could become very tedious.
The Show Replaced Patterns option has been improved. All replaced patterns outline
and the label will be displayed in cyan color highlighting them.
Marking now allows the user to have up to 100 marker groups. This enhancement has
many related improvements in both Marking and PDS. For PDS improvements, please
see the PDS manual, but see below for the Marking improvements.
1. New Marking Order – this has been modified to handle up to 100 marker groups.
2. The Add New Marking Group option now handles up to 100 marker groups.
3. The user may use the Page Up and Page Down buttons to shuffle through additional
marker groups.
5. The Copy to Other Marker Group function operates on additional marker groups.
20.3 Mini Marker Print Out Format, Marker Info Print Out Format
The software has been improved to utilize to the maximum space available for the size
ratio. By default, the number of characters allowed for the size name has been increased
to 8. If there is only one style in the marker, then all six lines are used to print the size
ratio. If there are two styles in the marker, then three lines are used for each style. If
there are three styles, then two lines are used for each style. If there are more than three
154
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
styles and the size ratio does not fit in the space given, the length of the 4 characters per
size name is truncated in an attempt to fit more.
A Fusible Block may contain align-grouped patterns and Fusible Block autonesting.
This means that maintaining the grouping of the member align grouped pieces is now
possible. When a fusible block is ungrouped, the aligned grouped patterns remain
grouped.
Allows Bundle code changes on all pieces with the same bundle code.
Arrange by Pattern Side and Width. All the left side pieces are in one grouping and the
right side pieces are in the other grouping. If the marker is created with the One Way
option, this arrangement works better since alternating bundle pieces are not rotated 180
degrees.
The user has the capability to select a group of patterns in marking program and define
the exact knife movement. The selected pieces are grayed out and the cursor shape
changes to indicate that the user may now define the cutting path.
Left clicking on a pattern point starts the knife plunge point. Each successive left click
defines the next move point while the knife is down. A right mouse click defines the
knife lift position. This way the user can define multiple cut lines. Two consecutive
right mouse clicks exits the custom cut direction control mode. At this point, the user
has the option to either keep the definition or not.
During the definition mode, a backspace key backs up the cutting line. All notch points
in the selected pieces are ignored. Once a group of pieces are processed in this manner,
they will not respond to any marking tools. In order to undo this operation, either use
the undo button before the marker is saved or enter the cut direction tool and use the
right mouse button menu command "Remove Custom Cut Path".
The pattern popup menu in the cut direction control tool mode has 2 additional
commands:
155
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
1. Disable No Cut Line and Disable No Cut Line in All. The first command
manually removes any no cut lines that were defined for the selected pattern or based
on the apply rule chosen.
2. The second command disables the no cut flag from all lines from all pieces in the
marker.
The Size Ratio readout is now strictly based on bundle codes. In previous StyleCAD
versions, the Size Ratio was based on the piece count and complete garment count.
Even if a bundle only has 1 piece in the marker, it is still counted as 1 bundle.
The garment yield displayed in the marker info and the status bar shows the yield based
on the bundle count. The garment yield computed using only complete bundles can still
be seen in the marker summary by style window. Click on the garment yield field of the
status bar to activate this window.
The bundle completeness may be checked using the View Filter. An arrow button has
been added next to the bundle code entry in the view filter. Each time the button is
pressed, it cycles through all of the bundle codes in a marker and sets the filter
automatically. The piece count that passes the filter setting is also shown in the view
filter window. This allows for a quick bundle completeness check up.
The Mini Marker now prints out sectional Garment Yield information in case the
marker is a sectional marker. If the plot remark field is empty, it is used for the print
out. If plot remark field is not empty but the memo field is empty, then the memo field
is used for print out. If neither field is empty, then the sectional info is not printed.
Right clicking on the outline presents the user with the "Toggle No Cut Flag" command.
The line between the 2 surrounding grading points will either be assigned the No Cut
flag or if it already has the flag the flag will be removed. This feature is for cutting
machine users only.
This is a specialized arrangement method where the user designs piece nesting for a
bundle, and applies the same nesting to the unplaced pieces in the lower view. Pieces in
the upper rack are not affected. Each unplaced bundle is placed above the marking table
in the same arrangement as the selected pieces. The pieces are then sorted in the
156
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
ascending bundle code order first, so that bundle A (for example) will be placed left of
the bundle B. There is a 5 inch gap between each bundle groups.
The method of operation is as follows. First, next a bundle. Then, use the Shift +
Rubber Box method to add a selection highlight (red) to all the pieces in the bundle that
has already been nested. Then select Rearrange Unplaced Pattern -> Arrange Same as
Selected Bundle from the pop-up menu outside the marking table border lines.
It is required that all selected pieces (the sample arrangement) belong to the same
bundle. If this is not the case, the request is ignored and the user will be given an error
message.
By using the Flip tool while pressing the ALT key flips the pattern left to right. If the
ALT key using pressed, the pattern is flipped top to bottom.
The same menu has been added to the Outside The Marker Table pop-up menu. When
this option is on, only 1 line pattern label is displayed (that consists of Name and Bundle
with the * and % for buffering and scaling as before).
The "Only 1 Side of Pair" option has been added to the marking order. The user will be
warned if any of the marked pieces are not paired. The other side of the pair pattern is
skipped. StyleCAD will not change any results in the marking order, allowing the user
to make necessary changes.
The Automatic Gap Processing option now works for multiple pattern sliding.
3/32 inch (0.25 cm) and 1/16 inch (0.15 cm). Also, with either tools, ALT key + click
selects the next smaller font size for the pattern label.
Pressing Shift + Alt + Click selects the next larger font size for the pattern label. If the
pattern label has a manual font size, this feature will not work. The user must turn off
the manual font size before using this method.
157
StyleCAD 7.0 Marking Users Manual
If the user presses the Control key while clicking on either the marker comment or the
pattern comment/label rotates the comment/label by 90 degrees counter clockwise.
Pressing Control + Shift + Click rotates 90 deg clockwise.
The Qty/Pair Changed option has been added to the Order Re-entry window. If the
check box is selected, all nested pieces are removed and new pieces are inserted in the
upper rack. Essentially, a new order is created without creating a new marker.
However, if the option is not selected (the user knows that the qty/pair did not change
for any pattern in the style), the option will perform as before.

A new option “Auto Align Pair Pattern” has been added to the marker order window. Select the
option and each pair with align point are automatically grouped in the specified alignment direction.
