Comperative Anatomy

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for a Grade 10 science class about evolutionary patterns from comparative anatomy. The lesson plan outlines objectives, content, learning resources, procedures, and activities. The procedures include an energizer, establishing class management, attendance taking, reviewing the previous lesson, presenting examples and instances of homologous and analogous structures through a video analysis and activity. The goal is for students to understand how comparative anatomy provides evidence of evolution and be able to distinguish homologous from analogous structures.

F. Developing How is comparative anatomy of organisms Possible Answer:

mastery (Leads relevant to evolution?
to Formative
Assessment) Comparative Anatomy - is the study of
(EXPLAIN) similarities and differences in the anatomy
(10 min.) (physical structure) of different species.

Anatomy - refers to the physical structures of an

organism.

Major concept of Comparative Anatomy

HOMOLOGOUS STRUCTURE
- These are structures from different
species which have similar internal
framework, position, and embryonic
development.
- Homologous structures may have the
same origin or ancestors but
different functions. This type of
evolution is called divergent evolution.
Here are some examples of homologous
structures: forelimbs of dog, man, cat, bat, bird,
lizard, and whale are structurally the same, but
functionally different.

Egaña National High School
Egaña, Sibalom, Antique

ANALOGOUS STRUCTURE
- These are structures of unrelated species
may evolve to look alike, because the
structure is adapted similar function.
- Analogous structures have similar
functions but different origin and
structure.
Examples are wings of birds, bats, and insects
that have the same function.

TWO PATERN OF EVOLUTION

Divergent evolution is the splitting of an

ancestral population into two or more sub-
populations that are geographically isolated from
one another.

In convergent evolution, analogous structures

of unrelated organisms from different ancestors
developed similar function.

generalizations
and abstractions 1. What are two major concepts of Comparative
about the lesson Anatomy? Homologous and
2. What are the two types of evolution? Analogous
