I. Attention Getter: When we are six years old, our parent had set a path to us. Some parents had set their children to
become a doctor meanwhile some parents had set their children to become prosecutor. Every parent had set different path
for their children with a hope their children is an extraordinary than the others. However, all these different paths will meet
at the same point which is college or university’s life. Doesn’t all of you wonder? How we are so happy when we are kids
but growing up make us more depressed, stress and sad especially us, the university student. Every year the mental health
cases among students increase linearly. So here I would like to talk about the problem of mental health among university
students.

II. Establish credibility: When I was 21, I had been diagnosed with depression and anxiety, and that was my second year in
university. But today here I am, standing giving speech to all of you as a student about the importance of the mental
health among students.

III. Preview main points/Thesis statement: I do believe most of us here doesn’t even care about mental health. But we need
to know that mental health has the same importance as the physical health. Poor mental health can cause a lot of
problems not just for us students but to society and institution. So now, let’s talk about the increasement of mental health
issues among universities students before moving on to the cause of the problem which consist of financial distress and
social relation. In the end, maybe we can provide some beneficial solution such as establishing funding organization and
held mental health awareness.

[Transition: I'll begin by telling you about the problem which is an increasement of mental health problem among
university’s students and impact toward their studies]

I. Before we are going any further, let’s define and look towards the problem as I stated before,

1.Mental health problem is becoming more common among university students domestically and
research show that an increasement of mental health problems that happen to University’s students. Some University’s
students which are also us aware that they are having mental health issues but refuse to seek for professional helps. Some
of them and embarrassed of what their friends would call them after they had been diagnosed with. This ignorance then
will affect them in the future. What they are not aware of is how this poor mental health that happens to them can cause
them a misfortune.

mental illnesses are already established by the age of 24. In most cases, the symptoms emerge as early as 18 years old. This
is how common it is for students to develop mental illness.

during the 2020–2021 school year, more than 60% of college students met
the criteria for at least one mental health problem.

forward and take a look of the causes)


II. There are two major causes of the increasement mental health problem among university students which are financial
distress lack of knowledge and social relations of students itself.

1.Firstly, financial distress is one of the factors leading towards this problem. We all know that we students need to pay to
further our study. The amount of money that we need to pay is not as little as we going to primary school before. The
amount of money that we pay is a lot. Some of us taking education loan to further their study. As students, we always
worried about two things in the end of the semester which is the examination result and our bank account balance. The
thought of not enough money to support ourselves then leading to more serious problem which is mental health problem.

a. According to the 2018 Healthy Minds Survey, US college students report their current financial situation as “stressful”
(35%), “often stressful” (24%), “rarely stressful” (20%), “always stressful” (14%), and “never stressful” (7%).

b. According to AIMS Public Health, people with debt are three times as likely to have depression, anxiety, and stress from
the worry. This cause student to stress more as they have education loan to be paid after they graduate from their studies.
