Purpose:
. To conduct technical seminars/ webinars on latest developments
in maritime industry and to take required actions basis the
outcome of seminars/ webinars and subsequent meetings
Activities Undertaken So Far:
The IME(I) Mumbai Branch Technical Sub-Committee
organized a series of events starting from December 2021.
The first event was an online seminar held on 22nd December
2021, which was organized as an “Outcome of the MEPC 77
Session”.
The second event titled “Conclave on EEXI - Challenges and
way Forward” was jointly conducted with The Company of
Master Mariners India on a web platform on 4th February 2022.
The third event was held on 29th April 2022 at Banquet Hall -
MCA, Bandra - Kurla Complex, Bandra (E), Mumbai, and was
titled “The Rise of Methanol as Future Proof Marine Fuel.”
It was held in a hybrid mode, and it explored the potential of
methanol as a marine fuel.
The fourth event was a hybrid seminar on “Business Integrity
& Anti-Corruption - Imperatives & Way Forward in
the Maritime Industry - Role & Work of Maritime Anti-
Corruption Network (MACN)”, conducted on 17th June
2022. This event was well received by the shipping industry
and was successful.
The IME(I) Mumbai Branch Technical Sub-Committee was
actively engaged in preparations for the next event, INMARCO
2022, which was held from 17th to 19th November 2022.
This event provided a platform for students from MTIs across
the country to showcase their knowledge and skills through
Technical Paper presentation competition and Model making
competition.
The sixth event was organized by the Navi Mumbai Chapter
of IME(I), Mumbai Branch in association with DG Shipping.
It was a hybrid seminar held on 7th January 2023, titled “The
Outcome of MEPC 79” The objective of the event was to
discuss the outcome of the 79th session of the IMOs MEPC
79 that took place from 12th to 16th December 2022 at IMO,
London. The event was conducted at Maritime Training
Institute, Powai (SCI).

Glimpses of Events in Last Quarter

Navacharitam 22
MERI MUMBAI successfully organised the Navacharitam 22
intra campus technical paper presentation competition on the
day of 22nd November 2022. The chief guests for the event,
Mr. Rajesh Doshi Hon. Chairman IMEI Gujarat Chapter and
Mr Rajesh Kasaragod, Hon. Treasurer IMEI Mumbai Branch
and Mr Kannan Kanamarlapudi, Energy Efficiency Manager,
X- Press Feeders, were greeted by the campus Director
Cmde[Dr.] Vivek Chawla along with HOD Mr. Hare Ram Hare,
Technical Club-in-charge Mr. Gopal Krishna, Chief Engineer
Mr. Shashank Bani and Darshana M Pashte

Cdt. Akshat Kashyap, Vice president of the technical club, took


the charge of the stage and explained the rules and regulations,

The first team consisting of Cdt. Shaikh Mohammed Farhan,
Cdt. Rajdeep Singh and Cdt. Sai Pampana Jeevan presented
their paper on the topic “Nanotechnology as a future of
Maritime Industry”. They highlighted the potential applications
of nanotechnology in the marine sector as their final argument.
The second team, consisting of Cdt. Nitin Kumar Dube and Cdt.
M L Sai Teja were called onto the stage for their presentation.

THE OUTCOME OF “MEPC 79”

A seminar on “THE OUTCOME OF MEPC 79” was

Engineers (India), Mumbai Branch in association with

the outcome of 79th session of the IMOs Marine Environmental
Protection Committee “MEPC 79” that took place from 12th to
16th Dec 2022 at IMO, London.

was “Air Pollution Prevention and Energy Efficiency”. Then,

PRAYAAN 5.0, the annual techno-cultural fest at Indian


Maritime University Mumbai Port Campus, was a grand success.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from cadets from
six different colleges - AEMA, AMET, BP MARINE, HIMT,
TMI, and DATTA MEGHE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING.

The cadets participated in each event with great


sportsmanship and enthusiasm, making it a thrilling
experience for everyone present.
The event kicked off with an opening ceremony
graced by Mr Mohan Singh Pal, Director (METC)
at The Institute of Marine Engineers (India), as
the chief guest, and Capt. Albe Zachariah, General
Manager, MOL, as the guest of honour. The chief
guest was escorted by the pilots to the auditorium,
where ex-faculties Ms. Darshana M Pashte and Ms.
Vini Ravinder Kaur were invited to judge the events.

The two-day extravaganza comprised a total of 11

Finally above all, Mr. Birwadkar invited Dr. Saxena who is
the brainchild of this course along with Vijendra Jain to share
his thoughts. Dr. Saxena complimented all the candidates and
congratulated the joint team effort. He requested the team to
involve all the branches of IME(I) to get more candidates.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that “The days are gone
when we engineers were only technical people. Today the job
is techno-commercial, it’s not pure technical. It is high time
the engineers can come out from their shell and grab such
opportunities.” He agreed that both NMIS and IME(I) will need
to work closely to make this course more attractive and feasible
for prospective candidates.
