Session 8& 9: Truth vs. False Claim Activity

MODULE ACTIVITY– Truth vs. False Claim (To be presented the following week)

Instructions: Read each statement carefully. Distinguish if the statement is expressing truth or is

a false claim. If the statement is true, write the word Truth and False if otherwise. Seek more
complex truths through research. Write the evidences on the space provided.
Truth or False Evidence Statement
Claim
1. Drinking alcohol and
smoking are part of growing up.
A normal aspect of growing up is trying new
things and adopting new hobbies and behaviors.
Researchers who study adolescent cultures pay
special attention to the "social clock" of expected
and acceptable behaviors at different ages along
with the complexity of how and when people start
acting in ways that even they do not support in
FALSE
principle. The findings indicate that a person's
propensity to experiment with vices varies during
adolescence, depending on their general success
and problems. Given these details, it can be
concluded that drinking alcohol is not a necessary
component of growing up because so many other
things have an impact on a person's growth.

2. Human beings are bound to

commit mistakes.
Many people discover early in life that making
mistakes is difficult, disappointing and
humiliating. But as Kathryn Schulz argues in her
TED Talk, these awful feelings don't come from
feeling wrong; rather, they come from
understanding wrongness. Human beings are
TRUE bound to make mistakes at some point in their
lives and with that, we acknowledge the
importance of committing mistakes for learning
and the necessity of appreciating the learning that
comes from being incorrect. Human beings are
bound to make mistakes at some point in their
lives.

FALSE 3. A human person can lose his

dignity.
Although it is the most fundamental of all ethical
and moral principles, human dignity is also the
hardest concept to articulate. Nobody ever loses
their sense of dignity. Regarding human dignity, it

implies protecting each person as a free being with

a unique past and treating them with respect.
Human dignity is independent of both social rank
and physical and intellectual capability.

4. Copying and pasting from the

internet hinders one from
Now that everyone has easy access to the internet, his/her search for truth.
learning anything requires only one click. The
drawback of learning everything on the internet is
that you can't be certain which of the facts you've
looked up are true. If we just copied and pasted the
information we took from the internet, it hinders
us from our search of truth. Moreover, copying
and pasting information from the internet is a form
TRUE
of plagiarism, so even if it could seem like another
helpful source of knowledge, doing so obstructs
one's search for the truth. By using someone else's
ideas without giving them credit, you are breaking
copyright laws when you take their work and pass
it off as your own. The original author or whoever
owns the rights to the content in question may sue
you if you get involved in matters involving.

5. It is alright to tell a white lie

to save one from disgrace.
White lies are still lies and a form of dishonesty,
and while some are tough to maintain, others could
be quite helpful in certain circumstances. For an
instance, telling the whole truth would be
offensive or disrespectful to other people. White
TRUE
lies are frequently a sign of decorum. Selfish lies
that people tell can cause a lot of harm.
Us, people are considerate of other people's
feelings and were motivated by compassion and
goodwill to relieve one from affliction and shame.

them is special and unique, psychics, horoscope
readers, magicians, palmists, and crystal ball
gazers employ the Barnum Effect. In psychology,
this phenomenon is referred to as the Forer or
Barnum Effect and occurs when people believe
that personality descriptions only apply to them
when, in fact, the description contains information
that is true for all people generally. As a result, it
is not able to predict one's day's luck because
horoscopes are nothing but a hoax.

7. Telling and spreading gossips

is unavoidable.
It is possible to avoid gossip. Whether or not it is
true, those who desire to spread unfavorable or
sensitive information about others are self-
centered. People use gossip to hurt others, improve
their own feelings, and give them the impression
FALSE that they have power over others. It's possible for
gossip to tarnish someone else's reputation. Avoid
spending time with persons who enjoy making fun
of others. When choosing whatever information to
disclose with these people, you should proceed
with the utmost caution.

8. Human beings, by nature,

are good.
By nature, we are good. We are born with the
capability to distinguish between right and wrong.
We are not impervious to employing violence or
being selfish, though. It's critical to distinguish
between who we are and what we do. The mere
TRUE
fact that there have been conflicts in the past does
not mean that humans are violent by nature. A
deeper comprehension of human nature might
enable us to make wiser choices and grant us more
freedom in the first place.

9. Listening to fortune tellers

another by making predictions that are inconsistent
and at odds with one another. As a result, fortune
telling is neither a science in the conventional
sense nor a reliable way to live life. Although, yes,
many fortune tellers can help you feel at ease, or
they may encourage you to go after a long-held

dream or make a challenging choice, which can be
incredibly helpful in today's sometimes unsettled
atmosphere but it cannot guarantee a hundred
percent accuracy. No matter which side of the
debate you are on, it is imperative that you educate
yourself before deciding whether or not to heed a
psychic's advice.

TRUE 10. If you don’t have anything

good to say, don’t say it.
A person's capability for communication is his or
her most valuable asset. Speak good or remain
silent. Because speaking ill can harm others
greatly. The results could be severe and far-

reaching. Additionally, the things you say will be

internalized by the recipients and conveyed to
others for all eternity. Even when you pass away,
what you say will endure. You cannot unsay
or take back something you have already said. It's
similar to how you cannot take back a nail that you
strike into a wall. The wall will develop a hole as a
result. The harm is irreversible.

B. ESSAY WRITING

1. Does truth always matter to you?

Even if I frequently fear the truth, I do care deeply about the truth. Its importance
won't ever fade and they claimed that honesty is the greatest policy for this reason. Your
whole life will be impacted by it. Honesty is important in life, especially when it comes
to dealing with oneself and other people. You may build your self-confidence by being
honest with yourself, and you must be straightforward and genuine with others if you
want to win their trust. Being honest earns you the respect of those around you. Honesty
is important to me because it shows that I can respect you and other people, even when
the truth hurts. Honesty is essential because it creates a link between my personal life and
my interactions with others.

2. Do we have to speak and seek for what is true all the time? Explain your answer.
Honesty keeps us out of jeopardy, so it is crucial to us. However, speaking and
pursuing the truth nonstop can occasionally be detrimental. The right time must be
chosen to speak out and seek the truth. It's important to speak the truth with passion and
honesty. Warmth and sincerity are used in saying it. This is said with the best of
intentions—to be helpful and to benefit others. I think there will be times when we have
to make difficult decisions, especially if telling the truth would bring unnecessary
suffering to anyone who has already suffered because of the related situations. In my
viewpoint, it is preferable to mix honesty with astute reasoning as opposed to merely
being truthful at all times because I think that it is crucial to look for the truth in our
world, but we also need to know how to put it into good and appropriate use.

3. How do you judge the truth? What are the ways that you tried to do in search for truth?
I think that by being conscious of both the dishonesty and the facts that support
the truth that is being spoken, you can discern and determine the truth. This is refraining
from being predisposed by what you already know or what you've always believed and
instead asking the right questions and making progress. Pay close attention on both sides.
Don't let someone lead you down a path that you don't believe to be accurate. I extend my
perspective in search of the truth in order to learn the truth. I would think about and
engage in self-reflection in order to be able to seek the truth with a new viewpoint. This is
how I would seek and accept the truth. Complete truth recognition can be a viable asset to
our character development.
