Background of the Subject


- The course provides opportunities for students to discover patterns and extract meanings
from emerging trends. It aids in developing their critical and creative thinking skills--
essential tools for decision making and understanding “ethics of care”.

Definition of Trends, Networks, and Critical Thinking

Trend
 is the general direction in which something is developing or changing.

Networks
 an arrangement of intersecting horizontal and vertical lines.

Critical Thinking
 is the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue to form a judgment.

Types of Trends

 Microtrend – These are the little things that happen all around us. Trends that are
so common we get used to it.

 Macrotrend – These are the trends that can endure for surprisingly a long time.
It's also the trends that affect society.

 Megatrend – These are the trends that can stay healthy for decades or last for 10
years.
