Chapter 1

The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

Each day it only has twenty-four hours, in order to finish the designated work on time

and give more free time for pursuing other activities such as hobbies and spending time with

friends and family, proper time management is important. Time management is the process of

controlling and planning how much time to spend on specific tasks. It allows students to

prioritize their tasks and ensure that they have adequate time to finish each task. The purpose

of time management is to enable people to get more and better work done in less time and it

helps students to be focused, and return to study rather than doing other things at the same

time. Furthermore, by managing their time effectively, students can finish their work on time,

remain engaged in their learning, and have more time to pursue activities that are important to

them, such as sports, hobbies, youth groups, and spending time with friends and family.

Time management is the process of planning and organizing your time to divide your

activities to improve your ability to function effectively and efficiently. It is important in all aspects

of our lives. It is crucial, especially to the students in an educational setting. Good time

management allows someone to accomplish more in a shorter time, which leads to more free

time. This allows someone to take advantage of learning opportunities, lower the stress tension,

and help to focus or avoid procrastination, which leads to more success.

1
Students should prioritize their tasks and responsibilities in order of importance and

urgency to enhance their academic performance and avoid procrastination. It would be best

also to account for distractions to meet your goals or aims in a particular activity. It is also

recommended to make a list of tasks to know how to spend your time. (Shaina, et al., 2020)

Time management behaviors relate positively to perceived control of time, job

satisfaction, and health, and negatively to stress (Bridgette, 2012). However, if students are too

stressed, they cannot study effectively (Gale et al, 2018). When you manage it wisely you will

feel more in control of your time so you can meet deadlines and the quality of your work

improves therefore you will become less stressed and more relaxed. Good time management

can also be considered as one of the aspects that can move a student to be a good student.

(Narsullah & Khan 2015). Students who struggle with time management find it hard to regulate

their external lives leading to poor sleep patterns, and increased levels of stress (Van, et al.,

2010). Students who do not manage their time properly have a lot of chances that they are

experiencing serious consequences such as procrastination, lack of sleep, and unhealthy habits

that lead them on having low quality of work and stress. Maintaining a healthy balance between

academics, pursuing individual interests and downtime requires good time management skills.

We choose to conduct this study for us to know what could be the possible solution in this

problem to help other student to manage their time wisely.

2
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

This study aims to establish an effective time management strategy for individuals in

accomplishing their assignments and tasks, as well as studying efficiently. The paradigm used

in this study is based on the Input-Process-Output (I-P-O) model, which consists of three

interconnected components. The first component, Input, encompasses the variables of

Sex/Gender, Age, and Strand. These factors influence an individual's approach to time

management and can provide insights into different strategies that may be effective for specific

demographics. Process involves the various activities and steps involved in managing time

effectively. This includes identifying priorities, setting goals, planning schedules, implementing

strategies, and monitoring progress. Output represents the desired outcomes of managing time

effectively. This includes increased productivity, improved task completion rates, and enhanced

learning outcome.
