Lesson Idea
Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s): (Which level(s) will this lesson meet using this technology
tool?)
How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply. (Sometimes only one option will
apply.)
☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
Students will begin the lesson by refreshing the life cycle of a human with me. We will refresh
how start as babies, then toddlers, then children, then adolescents, then adults and finally
into seniors. Students will then be asked to pick a pair to work with, and they will log into
Microsoft and I will give them a link to my Sway as an example. They will then pick an
organism and research the life cycle of their organism and present it in a sway such as mine.
Feedback will be provided throughout the whole process. Students will then present their
finished product to the class.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
Basic Productivity Presentation Tool
Lesson Idea
Students will be asked to co-engage with their pair. They will first on their own research
the life cycle of their organism and then come together to create one set cycle to produce
into their Sway.
This activity will allow for quiet time, collaboration time, and finally presentation, creating
different scenarios for a wide variety of learners.
I am excited to see the presentations! Seeing student’s work and the work they create when
they are collaborating is always exciting. I am hopeful this will teach students to use this tool
in other projects.
Basic Productivity tools, or BPTs, are different software used for students that make creating easier
and faster, being include differentiation and creativity. Examples of basic productivity tools include
Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Docs, and Grammarly. BPTs differ from instructional software in that
fact that instructional software are programs in which stimuli are used to enhance learning skills.
Examples of instructional software are ScratchJr, Brain Pop, and Phet Simulations. The main
differences between BPTs and instructional software is BPTs are used to create learning and
instructional is used to enhance learning. For example, on Google Slides (BPT), students can create a
PowerPoint on their research of a plant cell. Meanwhile, they can explore the plant cell on Phet
Simulation (instructional software). Google Slides can also be used to collaborate and share with
other classmates. There are many benefits of using BPTs including, allows for collaboration,
differentiation, and creation of authentic work. For example, web-based Office 365, is a great BPTs.
It offers accessibility, saves all work, allows for collaboration, and much more. It also complies with
the FERPA law, a federal law that protects student privacy and gives parents the right to control the
student’s online environment. A challenge you may come across with BPTs is it can often be hard to
fit in BPTs into curriculum.

Lesson Idea
BPTs can support student learning by allowing them to see the steps in the life cycle. Students should
be able to see an organism’s life cycle is a process. They will use the technology to collaborate with
another student to create the cycle of their organism. They will be on their own researching and
creating this cycle with the tool. My artifact is my example of a life cycle on Sway. It is the life cycle
of a butterfly. Students will use my book to skim and view the life cycle of a butterfly and use it as a
guide to make their very own. Students will learn how a butterfly starts from an egg, to a caterpillar,
to a cocoon, and finally to a butterfly. Adding audio will assist those who cannot yet read well, and
those ELL learners. I invite you to read my lesson and how I will implement the Sway tool in my
lesson.
Below is a link in which I have created the life cycle of a butterfly with Microsoft Sway, which is
what students will be creating themselves. Microsoft Sway is similar to PowerPoint in which students
will create step by step slides into their organism's life cycle.
