Next Step

The document provides troubleshooting steps for a throttle position sensor issue on a marine engine. It describes how the sensor works and what diagnostic codes may indicate a problem. The steps involve monitoring the sensor output signal while manipulating wiring connections and inspecting for issues like moisture, corrosion, or loose terminals that could cause intermittent faults. The sensor should output a changing duty cycle signal that corresponds to throttle position, without fluctuations caused by wiring or connector issues.

P-552: SHUTOFF SOLENOID

System Operation

The Shutoff Solenoid provides a secondary means for Figure P-552.1: Shutoff Solenoid Diagram
the ECM to shut down the engine. When the solenoid
receives a voltage, the solenoids plunger is pulled in to
allow the engine to run. When the solenoid loses the ECM
voltage, the plunger releases and the engine shuts
down.
If an overspeed condition is detected by the Overspeed
switch, the relay in the overspeed switch box will open
causing the shutoff solenoid to release and the engine
to shut down.
With the engine running, the voltage at the shutdown
solenoid connector should be between 1.5 and 2.5
VDC (from pin-A to pin-B).
