Re: Computer Interconnect Cable for EAS Products
Most Sensormatic EAS systems require an Interconnect cable to allow the use of PC based
Configurator programs for tuning and setup. This guide presents the most direct method for
creating these cables with some handy references for sources of parts. These are not intended as
recommendations or endorsements of specific vendors, and should not be construed as such.
Many of these parts are available from Radio Shack (part numbers attached), DIY, and some
retailers such as Wal-Mart.
Tools Parts
Side cut pliers Dsub hood 276-1513
Modular Crimping tool Dsub9 connx crimp 276-1428
Pin Insertion tools, D- Cord25ft 279-295
sub Cord12ft 279-306
Instructions
1. Acquire a handset cable of suitable length (25 ft extended is the best).
2. Orient cable connectors as shown in figure 1 and note color orientation of internal wires.
Note: Some headset cords do not have color coded wires in them, this makes it difficult to follow the
color coded orientation for cable assembly. To solve this problem, hold cable in the orientation shown
in figure 1 then mark the same side of both ends of the cable below the connectors before cutting.
3. Using a wire cutter, cut one connector off the cable. Be sure that the cut is straight across the cable
(not diagonally).
4. Insert the cut end of the cable into the stripper portion of the crimping tool, squeeze and remove
outer jacket from cable. Be careful not to remove or break the inner conductors colored insulation.
