5.3.3 Setting the Media Service Cluster

This section describes how to set the media service cluster.

5.3.3.1 Understanding the Media Service Cluster

The media service of the SmartOne Dispatch can be set to the storage service, the transcoding service, the media
server (providing all media services), and the service that provides media services for the business server, gateway,
or client. When the storage service, the transcoding service, the media server, and the service that provides media
services for the business server are installed on different servers, a cluster network consisting of these
services/servers must be configured. The cluster network is not required in other scenarios.

Configuring the media service cluster is to ensure that all media services can communicate with each other. In
addition, when several media servers are configured, these servers in the cluster can work in load sharing mode.

The cluster network can be established by either multicast detection (the default way) or point-to-point way. If the
media services are installed on both the Windows-based computers and Linux-based computers, point-to-point way
is recommended.

 By multicast detection: The cluster network is established by multicast detection. Each media service in the
network sends request packets to the multicast service IP address of the router or switch. After receiving the

29
Business Server Configuration Commissioning Guide

request packets, the router or switch sends information about all media services to each one, allowing them to
establish a network where they can communicate with each other. To adopt the multicast detection, you must set
Auto Networking to "Enable".

 By point-to-point way: The cluster network is established by point-to-point way. The media services might be
located in the same network segment or different network segments. In such a network, all media services need
to be configured with the local IP address and the IP addresses of other media services. Configurations vary
depending on whether media services are located in the same network segment.

7.7.1 Accessing the DMR Trunking System by Using the IP

Network
This section describes how to create SAPs to enable the gateway to access the DMR trunking system by using the IP
network. The following three SAPs are required:

 Dispatch SAP: used to handle voice and message services.

 Data SAP: used to handle GPS and base data services.

 Channel monitoring SAP: used to handle channel monitoring services.

12.4 Understanding Rules of Numbering Business

Servers
IDs of the business server must be numbered according to specified rules to ensure a unique ID for each business
server in cascading mode. If one ID is assigned to different business servers in cascading mode, data needs to be
cleared and then re-imported, which is time consuming.

The ID ranges from 00001 to 99999. When numbering business servers, obey the following rules according to the
phone number's area code in the administrative division where the business server is located:

 If the area code has three digits, the ID consists of the area code and a digit string ranging from 00 to 99. For
example, if the area code is 123, the ID ranges from 12300 to 12399.

 If the area code has four digits, the ID consists of the last three digits of the area code and a digit string ranging
from 00 to 99. For example, if the area code is 1234, the ID ranges from 23400 to 23499.
