Operation of the SINAMICS V20

The display and the integrated operation of the SINAMICS V20 is described in
the following exercise.
Display of the SINAMICS V20

Symbols:
Refer to the graphic for the SINAMICS V20 display symbols for a fault, alarm,
operation, reverse operation and the automatic, manual and jog modes.

Keys:
In addition to the Operation and Stop keys for switching on and off, "M" for
navigating through the menu, "OK" for confirmation and the arrow keys, there
are also key combinations.

"M + OK" is used to switch the operating mode (automatic, manual, jog).
"Up + Down" are used to switch the direction of rotation.

A distinction is made between the short and long pressing of "M".

Digits can be entered individually in the display when "OK" is pressed longer.
Menus of the SINAMICS V20

The SINAMICS V20 has three menus, the Setup menu, the Display menu and
the Parameters menu. The basic commissioning is performed in the Setup
menu. The Display menu is used for the visualization of actual values and
setpoints, and you can change the parameter settings in the Parameters
menu.

1. Jump between the menus by pressing the M key short or long. In the
following (> 2 s) stands for long pressing of the "M" key and no
specification for short pressing.
2. You can display the various setpoints and actual values in the Display
menu.
Restoring the factory setting and manual operation

In the following exercise you will restore the factory setting and operate the
motor in manual mode.

Tip:
We will already operate the motor in advance of the comissioning. The
following two factors make this function possible: firstly the coordination of the
converter and motor performance and secondly because the motor is only
controlled by voltage/frequency characteristic curves in no-load operation.
Restore factory settings

• Switch to the Parameters menu with "M".

• Change parameter P0003 Access level to 1 so that only the most frequent
parameters are displayed.
• Set parameter P0010 to 30 for commissioning to the factory setting.
• The LED on the converter starts to flash.
• Restore the factory setting by setting parameter P0970 to 21.
• The converter writes the parameters, indicated by "8888".
• The drive displays "50?" and starts the basic commissioning. Cancel this
and return to the Display menu with "M".

Note: User-specific data can be saved with the SINAMICS V20 which is not
deleted when parameter P0970 is set to 1. The user-specific data can also
be reset with the value 21.
Traversing the drive in manual mode

The drive is in the delivery state and can be tested for correct wiring in no-load
operation when the motor and converter have been dimensioned correctly.

• Press "M" and "OK" short simultaneously to switch to manual mode.

• A Hand symbol appears in the top right of the display.
• Enable the drive.
• When the motor turns, it is indicated in the display.
• Change the speed with the arrow keys and follow the setpoints and the
actual values in the display.
• Switch the drive off again.
• Press "M" and "OK" simultaneously again to switch to jog mode.
• The Hand symbol flashes during jog mode.
• Keep the Operation key pressed to jog the drive.
• Return to automatic mode with "M" and "OK".
Basic commissioning

The next step is basic commissioning. The functionality of macros will be

explained and tested.
Basic commissioning the motor data

1. Press "M" long to open the Setup menu.

2. The LED on the converter starts to flash.
3. Select zero for parameter P0100 to specify the motor data in European
format (kW / 50 Hz).
4. The motor windings are in delta connection. The rated motor voltage in
P0304 is 230 V.
5. The rated motor current P0305 is 0.73 A.
6. The motor has a rated power P0307 of 0.12 kW.
7. Enter a cos phi power factor of 0.75 in P0308.
8. The rated motor frequency is already entered in P0310 with 50 Hz.
9. The rated speed P0311 at 50 Hz is 1350.
10. Parameter P1900 is used to select the motor data identification. Leave the
value at zero so that no motor data identification is performed.
Specifying the connection macro

Connection macros facilitate the commissioning of the SINAMICS V20. They

provide a selection of predefined parameter settings for control of the
drive. The table shows the ten options that can be selected.

1. Select connection macro Cn001 for operation exclusively via the integrated
operator panel.
2. After applying the macro with "OK", "-Cn001" appears in the display.
Specifying the application macro

The SINAMICS V20 has four application-specific macros. Default settings can
be selected for pumps, fans, compressors or conveyor belts which
facilitate the commissioning.

1. Press "M" to open the selection of the application macro.

2. At first, leave the application macro at "AP000" and complete the
commissioning with "M".
3. The parameter settings are applied, indicated by "8888".
4. You are then in the Parameters menu and "P1080" appears in the display.
You can make further settings here, such as minimum speed or ramp-
up/ramp-down time.

The basic commissioning has been completed.

Testing the parameter assignment

1. Return to the Display menu by pressing "M" long.

2. Test the drive by switching it on via the user interface.
3. Change the speed and note the missing Hand symbol. The drive is in
automatic mode.
4. Switch the drive off again.
Changing a connection macro

1. Switch the drive off and return to the Setup menu by pressing "M" long.
2. Skip the input of the motor data with "M".
3. Select the connection macro "Cn002" for operation via terminals.
4. Press "M" twice until the commissioning is completed and "8888" is
displayed, and then return to the Display menu.
5. Start the drive with digital input DI1.
6. Change the setpoint with the aid of analog input AI0.
7. Reverse the direction of rotation with digital input DI2.
8. Jog the drive with digital input DI4.
Loading parameters

In the following exercise you will load the set of parameters from exercise 4
back to the converter with the help of the parameter loader.

Copying parameters

The next exercise requires the parameter loader of the SINAMICS V20 as well
as a MMC-/SD card. It will be demonstrated how to load a set of parameters
to a memory card.
Copying parameters to the memory card

1. Switch the converter off.

2. Attach the parameter loader without CF card to the converter.
3. Switch the converter on.
4. Insert the CF card.
5. Switch to the Parameters menu with "M".
6. Change the access level in parameter P0003 to three so that more
parameters are displayed.
Copying parameters to the memory card

• Set parameter P0010 to 30. The LED on the converter starts to flash.
• In parameter P0804, you can select the data set (0-99) in which the
parameters are to be saved. Leave this parameter at zero.
• Set parameter P0802 to two to start the copying procedure.
• The converter displays "8888".
• Remove the parameter loader.

The data has now been stored on the CF card. The data should be loaded to
the drive again at a later point in time.
Pumps with PID controller for regulating filling levels

This exercise simulates the commissioning of a pump with PID controller. You
choose eight different filling levels digitally by SINAMICS V20 clamps. The
level sensor reports filling levels from 0 to 100%. The SINAMICS V20 is
responsible for the PID controller.
Commissioning of a pump with PID controller

1. Start again in the Setup menu by pressing "M" long.

2. Skip the input of the motor data by pressing "M".
3. Select the connection macro Cn009 and activate it with "OK" for the PID
controller with fixed values. Continue with "M".
4. The application macro AP010 is available for the pump. Activate it with
"OK".
5. Complete the commissioning with "M".
6. .The data is written, indicated by "8888".
7. Press "M" long to return to the Display menu.
Testing the pump functions (AP010)

The application macro for pumps has made some pump-specific settings on
the drive. You should observe two adaptations yourself:
Minimum speed
1. Switch the converter on with digital input DI1, all others off.
2. The drive does not go to 0 Hz, but runs with 15 Hz even when the setpoint
is 0 Hz.
è Pumps should always run at a minimum speed so that they do not get hot.
Automatic restart
3. During operation, switch the drive briefly off and then on again with the line
side switch.
4. A fault message appears, F3 power failure.
5. As soon as the DC link has discharged, the drive shuts down.
6. After the line voltage has been restored, the converter automatically
acknowledges fault F3 and restarts. Prerequisite for this is that the enable
is still present at DI1.
Testing the PID controller

Note: If you keep "OK" pressed long in the Parameters menu, you can enter
the parameter number digit-by-digit.

1. Switch to the Parameters menu via "M".

2. Select parameter r2224 (PID controller fixed setpoint) and display the
value with "OK".
3. Press the combinations of the digital inputs DI2, DI3 and DI4.
4. Exit the parameter with "M" and select r2294 to display the PID output
value.
5. Vary the actual value via analog input AI1.

Actually, it is only a P controller with a proportional gain of 3, and therefore the

PID output value remains constant.
6. Change the parameters for proportional gain P2280 (e.g. to 1.2) and the
integral time with P2285 (e.g. to 20).
7. Observe the result. The drive controls continuously against the error.
Loading parameters from the parameter loader

1. Switch the converter off at the line side switch.

2. Attach the option module to the converter.
3. Insert the card into the option module.
4. Switch the converter on.
5. Fault F395 is displayed which indicates that the loading of the parameters
is pending.
6. Press "OK" for execution. The fault is then cleared. When the parameter
set is written to the EEPROM, the LED lights up in orange.
7. You can then test the loaded settings. The drive must receive the speed
setpoint via analog input AI0 again, and the PID controller should no longer
be active.
Energy saving functions

In the following exercise you will load the set of parameters from exercise 3 to
the converter with the help of the parameter loader.
Activating hibernation mode

If there is less demand or load, or fewer consumers, a speed setpoint in the

lower speed range is set. As motors are not very efficient at low speeds
with a small torque, depending on the application, more energy may be
saved when the drive hibernates until the demand has exceeded a limit
value. This is implemented by the SINAMICS V20 with its hibernation
mode.

1. Switch to the Parameters menu with "M".

2. Enter a minimum speed of 12 Hz in P1080.
3. Set parameter P2365 to one to activate the hibernation mode.
4. The drive should shut down immediately when the speed falls below the
minimum speed. Therefore, set the OFF delay to 0 seconds.
5. If the setpoint rises above the minimum speed, the drive should wait 5
seconds before starting.
6. Enable the drive at DI1.
7. Test the behavior with setpoints above and below the minimum speed.
Parameterizing the ECO mode

In ECO mode, the output voltage is increased or decreased slightly in order to

determine the minimum input power. The speed setpoint must be constant
for more than 5 seconds for the ECO mode to be set. However, the analog
input returns small voltage fluctuations which results in the speed setpoint
not being absolutely constant. Fixed speeds should therefore be used as
speed setpoint.

1. Press "M" long to open the Setup menu.

2. Skip the input of the motor data with "M".
3. Change the connection macro to Selection of fixed speeds "-Cn003".
4. Press "M" long to exit the Setup menu.
5. Switch to the Parameters menu with "M".
6. Change parameter P1300 of the control type to 4 for linear voltage-
frequency characteristic in ECO mode.
Operation of the SINAMICS V20 in ECO mode

1. Select parameter r1348 to display the ECO mode factor.

2. Switch the drive on and specify a constant speed.
3. Note how the ECO mode factor changes after 5 seconds.
4. Switch to the Display menu by pressing "M" long and display the output
voltage.
5. Note also the voltage change here after 5 seconds.
Connection to S7-1200 with USS

In the following the SINAMICS V20 will be speed-controlled via USS protocol.
For that purpose we will use an existing application example which you can
download from the following link:

• To switch the drive off again, change the value for the variable
"V20_USS_Control_1_DB".Drive.IN_STW[1] to 806.

Note: For the SINAMICS V20, control word 47e or 47f is received in
hexadecimal format in compliance with PROFIdrive. The USS block
processes the 806 or 807 internally before transmission.
Diagnostics when an error occurs

1. Turn analog input AI1 up fully.

2. Fault F80 occurs. The possible causes in the operating instructions for F80
"Failure of the input signal at the AI" are "Wire break or Signal outside the limit
values".
3. Turn the input down and acknowledge the fault with "OK". (If necessary, press
Enable first so the fault F80 is brought to the foreground.)
4. Switch to the Parameters menu with "M" and select parameter r0754 which
displays the percentage value at the analog inputs.
5. Select index 1 "In001" for the value of the second analog input.
6. Vary the input. Note that at approx. 50% of the slide, only approx. 10% is
received at the converter. The connection macro has parameterized the analog
input to 0-24 mA, but the potentiometer supplies 0-10 V.
7. Set parameter P0756 "In001" to zero to set the function of the analog input to 0-
10 V.

You can then check the value of the analog input in parameter r0754[1]. The
potentiometer returns a value of 0-100% and the fault no longer occurs.
