Concept Note and Agenda - MUCP Event 22-24 June 2023
Introduction
With a special emphasis on South-South Cooperation, the MUCP serves as a platform for collaboration
and exchange of expertise between Malaysian institutions, UNESCO, and other member states.
Through this cooperation, the expertise of a wide range of high-level partners, including government,
non-government, civil society, youth, academia, and UNESCO networks were harnessed, to address
key challenges and opportunities in these fields within the region.
To honour a decade of the cooperation between UNESCO and the Government of Malaysia, and its
affiliation with regional partners, including UNESCO Category I and II centres, UNESCO and the
Malaysian National Commission with UNESCO will organize a commemorative event in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia, from 22 - 24 June 2023.
This event will focus on a high-level discussion featuring the official launch of numerous MUCP items,
which includes the MUCP Coffee Table Book, the SECCI for SDG Scorecards tool, and the MUCP website.
The event will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including officials from the Government
of Malaysia, regional and international participants, representatives of MUCP partners, and students
who will be engaged in witnessing the partnerships for South-South Cooperation for sustainable
development.
Objectives
The overall objective of the event is to showcase the consolidated impact of the partnership between
UNESCO and Malaysia over a decade of implementation of the MUCP. The event encompasses the
following specific objectives:

Expected outcomes
• Enhance and promote awareness of the achievements and best practices within the MUCP
through thematic sector-based talk shows
• Bridge the connection between various stakeholders and the younger generation to enable
collaboration towards the achievement of the SDGs
• Create the opportunity to reflect and discuss the role of the MUCP in accelerating the SDGs in
the post-COVID recovery.
Audience
The event will gather around 100-150 participants and representation will be sought from the
following groups:
1. Representatives of the Government of Malaysia
2. UN RC and Country Team in Malaysia
3. Ambassadors of representative countries based in Malaysia
4. Relevant MUCP partners supporting the implementation of the MUCP projects
5. UNESCO Family Partners and networks, especially Category 2 Centers, and other networks
6. Students from ASP-net schools, universities, and other educational institutions
7. NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), youth representatives, and civil society.
Event Structure
The 3-day programme will be divided into 2 main components: an exhibition with a talk show and a
main event. All 3 days will include online broadcast for participants wishing to connect remotely. This
is a provisional agenda and may undergo minor changes prior to the event.
