In this incredible and wonderful
presentation we will see the halogens, the
elements that comprement it, their
characteristics and how they look, how we
can see the halogens are group 17 of the
periodic table, and we will also see many
other interesting things 👍

The elements of group 17 are the halogens. They are the
elements fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine and astatine.
These elements are too reactive to occur freely in nature,
but their compounds are widely distributed. Chlorides are
the most abundant; although fluorides, bromides, and
iodides are less common, they are reasonably available. In
this section, we will examine the incidence, preparation,
and properties of halogens. Next, we will examine the
halogen compounds with the representative metals, and
then the interhalogens. This section will conclude with
some applications of halogens.
They have similar chemical properties and tend
to form compounds with other elements by
gaining an electron and forming an anion. They
are strong oxidizing agents and can react with
almost all other elements. Fluorine, the most
reactive of the halogens, can even react with
the noble gases, which are generally unreactive
with other elements.
All halogens react with hydrogen to produce
hydrogen halides. Except for F 2, they all react
with water to form oxoacids, including perhalic
acids, which contain the halogens in their highest
oxidation state. Halogens also form interhalogen
compounds; the heaviest halogen, with the
lowest electronegativity, is the central atom.
Fluorine is the chemical element with atomic
number 9 located in the halogen group of the
periodic table of elements. Its symbol is F. It is a
gas at room temperature, pale green in color,
made up of diatomic F₂ molecules. It is the most
electronegative and reactive of all the elements.
Chlorine is a chemical element with atomic number 17
located in the halogen group of the periodic table of
elements. Its symbol is Cl. Under normal conditions and in
its pure state it forms dichloro: a toxic yellow-green gas
made up of diatomic molecules (Cl2) about 2.5 times
heavier than air, with an unpleasant and toxic odor. It is an
abundant element in nature and is an essential chemical
element for many forms of life.
Bromine is a chemical element with atomic number 35
located in the halogen group of the periodic table of
elements. Its symbol is Br. Bromine at room temperature is
a dense, volatile, red liquid. Its reactivity is intermediate
between chlorine and iodine. In its liquid state it is
dangerous for human tissue and its vapors, the emanation
of which can be clearly seen at room temperature, irritate
the nose, throat and eyes, even in ventilated places.
Iodine or iodine1 is a chemical element with
atomic number 53 located in the halogen group
of the periodic table of elements. Its symbol is I. It
is a non-metal because it is not a good conductor
of heat or electricity.
This element can be found in molecular form as
diatomic iodine.
Astatine is a chemical element on the periodic table whose
symbol is At and its atomic number is 85. It is radioactive
and the heaviest of the halogens that can be found
naturally on Earth. It is produced from the degradation of
uranium and thorium. It is the rarest element in the earth's
crust, as it is only found in the decay chain of several
heavier elements.
Tenesusis a very heavy synthetic element on the
periodic table of elements whose symbol is Ts
and atomic number 117. Also known as eka-
astatine or simply element 117, it is the second
heaviest element created so far and the
penultimate of the seventh. period on the
periodic table.
Fluorine is the most electronegative and reactive element and forms compounds with
virtually all other elements, including the noble gases xenon and radon. Its symbol is F. Even
in the absence of light and at low temperatures, fluorine reacts explosively with hydrogen.
In nature it is not found in its pure state, since it reacts rapidly with many elements and chemical
compounds. For this reason it is found in the composition of chlorides, especially in the form of
sodium chloride, chlorites and chlorates, in salt mines and dissolved in seawater.
Chemical element, Br, atomic number 35 and atomic weight 79.909, commonly exists as Br2; liquid with an
intense and irritating odor, dark red and with a low boiling point, but of high density. It is the only non-
metallic element that is liquid at normal temperature and pressure. It is very chemically reactive; element
of the halogen group, its properties are intermediate between those of chlorine and those of iodine.
Like all halogens, it forms a large number of molecules with other elements, but it is the least
reactive of the group of elements, and it has certain metallic characteristics. It can present
various oxidation states: −1, +1, +3, +5, +7. Reacts with mercury and sulfur.
Astatine has some metallic characteristics, such as coating a cathode and coprecipitating with metal sulfides in
hydrochloric acid. It forms complexes with EDTA, a metal chelating agent, and is capable of acting as a metal in
antibody radiolabeling; in some respects, astatine in the +1 state is similar to silver in the same state.
Tennessum is an artificial, halogen, radioactive, metallic, super-heavy, solid, dark-toned
chemical element. Also, it has a lifetime of milliseconds, stable and unstable isotopes. On the
other hand, it does not have recognized applications because its discovery is new.

In conclusion, the halogens in mineral form are
very beautiful and we learned which are the
elements that make up the group of halogens,
which is number 17 in the periodic table. We
saw about the characteristics of the halogen
elements.
In halogens, the heaviest element is astatine.
Halogens are highly reactive, so they can be
harmful to biological organisms in sufficient
quantities.
