Motion Sensor

A motion sensor detects movement of objects like humans or animals. There are three adjustable settings: time, angle, and distance. Common uses include activating automatic doors and turning on lights. Some have solar panels. The most common types are passive infrared (PIR), which detects changes in infrared light, microwave sensors using Doppler radar, and dual-technology sensors using combinations of technologies.

Motion Sensor

Electrical Lv. 1
A motion sensor/detector is a security/ alarm device that
recognizes and detects the movement of objects in its
surroundings, such as humans, animals, or solid objects.
There are three things that can be adjusted on a motion
sensor which is time, angle, and distance. Two common
uses of motion detectors are activating automatic door
openers in businesses and public buildings and turning on
light when it detects movements. Some motion detectors
come with a small solar on them.

Wiring for a motion sensor
There are seven types of motion sensors. There are three
types of motion detectors the is commonly used: Passive
Infrared (PIR), Microwave, and Dual-technology/ Hybrid
motion sensor and four which are active detectors,
Ultrasonic Sensors, Tomographic Motion Detector,
Gesture Detectors.
Passive Infrared (PIR):
is a technology that detects changes
in infrared light that is coming off
an object in its visible area

Microwave sensor:
Microwave sensors detect motion
using Doppler radar and are similar to
a radar speed gun.

Dual Tech/Hybrid motion sensor:

Many modern motion sensors use
combinations of different technologies.
Ultrasonic Sensors:
An ultrasonic transducer emits an ultrasonic
wave, a sound at a frequency higher than the
human ear can hear, and receives echoes
from nearby objects.

Active detectors:
Active motion sensors are also known as
radar-based motion sensors.

Tomographic Motion Detector:

Tomographic Motion Detector disturbances
to radio waves as they pass from node to
node of a mesh network.

Gesture Detectors:
Gesture detectors use photodetectors and
infrared lighting elements with digital
screens to detect hand motions and
gestures.
