Safe Operating Procedures (SOP)

FOR HIGH PRESSURE AIR COMPRESSORS (EOR)

PRE-OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS
 Check oil level at crank case.
 Check both suction and discharge valves.
 Check all gauges.
 Check the drive belts are properly tensioned.
 Check that drive belt and pulley guards are fitted, secure and functional.
 Examine all air hoses, connections and couplings.
 Start the pre lube oil pump & check the oil leakages & oil pressure.
 Check operation of cylinder lubricator.
 The vent valve & the bypass valve should be in pen position.
 Check for any leakage.
 Give a kick start to the motor & look for any abnormal sound, also mark the direction of rotation.
 If everything is found to be ok, Start the unit and keep it running & stop the pre lube oil pump.

OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS

 Start the compressor noting the pressure gauge increase and the cut-in / cut-out pressure levels.
 ALWAYS OPERATE AS DIRECTED IN THE OPERATOR MANUAL.
 Listen for any air leaks from all airlines or hoses. Do not continue if there are any leaks.
 Adjust the pressure regulator to suit the particular work requirements.
 Always check these pressures at regular intervals during normal operation.
 Air hose connections must be secured and checked prior to being pressurized.
 Compressed air cleaning of machine parts must only be undertaken after all PPE and general
workshop safety precautions have been observed.
 Never direct compressed air towards the body.
 Check oil pressure of the compressor.
 Close the vent valve & bypass valve slowly.
 Check for oil; filter differential pressure.
 Check and feel the sound of all the valves in the cylinder. They should not give any knocking
sound.
 Check the full load current of the motor.

STOPPING THE COMPRESSOR

 Gradually open the bypass valve & let the unit run on suction load.
 Start the pre lube oil pump.
 Stop the unit.
 Let the pre lube oil pump run for at least 10 minutes after stopping the compressor.
