Function 2.1 Funotion The Closed Cycle Cooling Water System (CCCWS) is a closed loop which provides cooling water flow to small duty plant heat removal devices and some large duty plant heat removal devices which require clean water during all modes of plant ‘operation. 2.2 Safety Function This system is not classed as being associated directly or indirectly with any nuclear safety related function. 2.3 Scope of System Considerable quantities of heat are created in rotating pumps, motors, or absorbed from the high temperature process fluid. High temperatures in locations such as pump bearing oil reservoirs, and exciter coolers etc, are avoided by using heat removal devices through which the closed cycle cooling water flows. The CCCWS provides cooling water to the following plant equipment: a~ Feedwater pumps b - Condensate pumps © - Condensate booster pumps d - Oil coolers for turbine ¢- Sampling coolers f- Generator rectifier g- Exciter coolers h- Deaerator cycling pump i - Air compressors The flow path and distribution of branch lines is shown on H000902C-J108-01 flow diagram of closed cycle cooling water system. The interfacing of CCCW system are chemical make-up water system, chemical reagent injection systern and water sampling system. 3. General Design 3.1 System Design Criteria 3.1.1 Operating RequirementsECEPDI 30-11000902C-1108 Closed Cycle Cooling Water System Manual Rev A E2-2 The CCCW system operates at all plant loads from start-up to its ma um capability. The CCCW system may be removed from service whenever the turbine-generator is not operating. However, when the station is operating, the CCCW system must be in service. The system is designed such that the failure of any critical component in the system will not affect the normal operation of the system. Redundancy in the system is provided by two 100 percent capacity CCCW pumps, and two 100 percent capacity CCCW heat exchangers the second component being used as a spare. The shell side pressure of the CCCW heat exchangers is higher than the tube side pressure of the open circulating cooling water so that in the event of a tube leak, open circulating cooling water will be prevented from entering the shell side of these heat exchangers. Flow distribution is determined by the manually operated valve setting on the individual equipment coolers. The correct volume of water in the system is maintained by a level controller on the expansion tank and a chemical make - up line equipped with a level control valve. Excessive water overflows from the tank to a drain. ‘The total dynamic head of the CCCW pumps is equal to the sum of the system pressure drops at design flow through the piping route of highest pressure drop. 3.1.2 Design Requirements ‘The CCCW system design is based on the maximum guarantee capability condition of the turbine - generator. The system includes reagent injection and water make-up capabilities to maintain the required water quality, The CCCW system is a closed loop system which supplies demineralized cooling water to plant heat exchangers. The discharge water from the plant heat removal devices is passed though the shell side of the CCCW heat exchangers. The cooled water is then retumed to the plant heat removal devices by the CCCW pumps, thus completing the cycle, The tube side of the CCCW heat exchanger is supplied with cooling water from the Open Circulating Cooling Water System. ‘The system contains small duty heat exchangers, which utilize small diameter tubing in the removal of waste heat. It is, therefore, necessary to use chemical make-up water in the CCCW system, as opposed to the circulating water used in theECEPDI 30-H000902C-5108 Closed Cycle Cooling Water System Manual Rev.A 2-3 Open Circulating Cooling Water System, to improve the system efficiency as well as to keep contamination, corrosion and flow restriction to a minimum. ach 100 percent capacity CCCW pump is capable of operating at a rated capacity ‘of 1116 m’/hr at 36 mH,O(g) generated head. ‘A 10 m’ capacity tank is provided on the operating floor at certain elevation to serve as a closed cycle cooling water expansion and surge tank. This tank elevation provides an adequate NPSH to the CCCW pumps and assures a positive head at the system heat exchangers. The tank also serves asa surge tank, accommodating flow variations in the system or thermal expansion of the water. ‘The level in the expansion tank is maintained at half capacity by the make-up water line which supplies water from the chemical make-up system. The make-up water line has a control valve which is actuated by a level signal received from the level controller. ‘The selected tank size capacity also includes a sufficient volume to allow the largest piece of equipment to be drained or refilled without impairing minimum system water capacity, ‘The system design is in accordance with Technical code for designing fossil fuel power plants (DL 5000-2000) and Code for design of thermal power plant steam/water piping (DL/T 5054-1996). 3.2 Equipment Design NA, 3.3. The Closed Cycle Cooling Water System expansion tank maintains the required system head pressure and system water reserve storage. It is located at the highest point in the system. The tank water level is maintained by a level controller which opens and closes the make-up level control valve depending on system demand. The tank is vented to the atmosphere and has a combined overflow and drain line. The tank elevation provides an adequate NPSH to the CCCW pumps and assures a positive head at the system heat exchangers. The tank also serves as a surge tank, accommodating flow variations in the system or thermal expansion of the water. The demineralized water is a source of initial fill and make-up water for the CCCW system. A control valve with bypass and isolation valves around itis provided in the make-up line which controls the water level in the expansion tank. The chemical composition of the CCCW must be constantly controlled. Occasional additions of chemicals are required for the system. In order to prevent corrosion of the piping and equipment, Tri-sodium phosphate shall be periodically injected into the system. 4.1.1 Heat Removing Equipment 4.1.1.1 General Pressure taps and thermowells on the inlet and outlet lines are provided for measuring as required. Isolation valves are provided on each heat removal device to allow for rotation and maintenance. 4.1.1.2 Oil Coolers For Turbine Thete are two (2) 100 percent capacity Oil Coolers. Isolation valves are provided on each cooler inlet and outlet lines. Normally one oil cooler is operating, and other standby. When the oil temperature of cooler outlet over specified value, two oil coolers are operating. 4.1.1.3 Coolers For Feedwater Pump Set The coolers for feedwater pump set include three motor air coolers and three pumps set oil coolers. Two motor air coolers and two pump set oil coolers are operating, others standby, the vaives on the inlet and outlet line must be opened for standby pump set, Flow of the CCCW through motor air coolers and pump set oil coolers is controlled by temperature control valve. 4.1.1.4 Other Equipment Heat Exchangers CCCW flow through the o ther heat removing device is controlled by a manual setting of valves in their discharge lines. Other heat removing device such as: exciter coolers, Generator rectifier cooler, sampling coolers, and so on. 4.2 Data Sheet Later 43° Layout Later 5. Operation 5.1 Initial Fill The initial filling of the CCCW system is accomplished by manually opening the bypass valve of the make-up control valve in the initial fill ine. The system is filled completely with demineralized water from chemical make-up system up to operating level in the expansion tank. Vents are provided on the high points on the expansion tank and heat exchangers. Vents are operated, as required, to expel air from the system piping while filling the system 5.2 Start-up Prior to starting a CCCW pump the following prestart checks must be performed : 1, Pump discharge valve was primed by opening 2. Supply line shutoff valves at each “operating” heat removal device are open 6, Retum line manual valves at each heat removal device are open Note: Not all heat removal devices as shown on flow diagrams H000902C- 108-01 need to be "operating" However, when a piece of equipment is to be started, its heat removal device must be in operation. After the prestart check has been performed, a CCCW pump is started by turning, the manual control switch to the "on" position. Only one pump is required during normal operating conditions with the other pump acting as standby. 5.3 Normal Operation This mode is characterized by one pump and one heat exchanger operation with the second pump and heat exchanger in standby mode. A pressure switch is connected to the starter circuit of each pump so that the standby pump will start automatically if the pump discharge header pressure drops. Make-up water is provided to the expansion tank from chemical make-up system through a level control valve. In summer, when the temperature of system water over specified value, the standby pump and heat exchanger can also be put into operation 5.4 Shutdown ‘The operating pump is shutdown manually by turing the control switch to the stop" position. The pump discharge and suction valves remain open during shutdown, Heat removal devices and heat exchangers may be removed from service by manually closing the discharge and inlet valves to the individual component. However, unless a heat exchanger maintenance is necessary, system shutdown does not necessitate any equipment isolation. Stopping the cooling water flow to a heat removal device of a piece of equipment during plant operation requires shutdown of that piece of equipment to avoid overheating of bearings, hydraulic fluid, ete. 5.5 Emergency Events Emergency events are limited to the loss of a pump or heat exchanger. Loss of both CCCW pumps or heat exchangers require system shutdown and shutdown of components served by the system. Loss of a component heat exchanger will notECEPDI 30-H000902C-1108. Closed Cycle Cooling Water System Manual Rev.A EXT necessitate plant shutdown, at the most, it will necessitate reduced load operation. 5.6 Control Principles 5.6.1 Flow Control ‘The CCCW System is controlled either automatically or locally. The water flow through FWP oil coolers and motor air cooler. Turbine lubricating oil coolers are controlled by power operated control valves which regulate flow in relation to the temperature of the primary fluid. 5.6.2 Level Control ‘The level in the expansion tank is maintained at half capacity by a level controlled installed at the make-up water line which supplicr water from the chemical make-up system, 5.6.3. The CCCW expansion tank level is maintained at a fixed level by a level controller modulating the chemical make-up water valve. 6.1.2 CCCW pumps A pressure differential switch is equipped on the filter of CCCW pumps suction respectively in order to alert the operator on failure of the filters. The pressure gauges are equipped on the suction and discharge of the pumps for Jocal indication. The motorized valves in the discharge lines of the pumps are controlled locally. ‘The CCCW pumps are controlled by the operator from the main contro! room, One pump is on duty and another is on standby, should loss of the discharge head, or failure of the duty pump, the standby pump is started up automatically. 6.1.3 Temperature control The CCCW temperature is controlled by the pneumatic temperature control valve equipped on the bypass line of the heater exchangers. The demineralized water temperature of heater exchanger discharge header is regulated by bypass flow. ‘Two special pneumatic temperature control valves are installed respectively on the inlet line of turbine lubricating oil coolers and on the outlet line of FWP set coolers. The CCCW flow through the turbine lubricating oil coolers and FWP set coolers is controlled by the pneumatic temperature control valve to maintain a specified value of the outlet medium temperature for the coolers. 6.2 Logie Diagram LaterECEPDI 30-11000902C-1108 Closed Cycle Cooling Water System Manual Rev.A __E6-2 63 Analogue Diagram NA. 6.4 Controls Available to the Operator Mark (Refer to CL) Designation Location DK4304 Closed cycle cooling water pump A Board DK4305 Closed cycle cooling water pump B Board 6.5. Maintenace 8.1 Access and provisiong for access All equipment is fully accessible from floors or platforms. The equipment is arranged to permit access during operation and provide adequate working space to perform maintenance or repairs as well as removal of any component parts. Removal of CCCW pump components, if necessary, can be accomplished by using monorail. The monorail will permit servicing the CCCW pumps when major components are required to be removed and monorail will operate from the adjacent maintenance corridor. The motors can be uncoupled and rolled out to the maintenance corridor area for removal if so required. ‘A laydown area is provided for the pump parts and a withdrawal area is also provided for the heat exchangers tube bundles. 8.2 “On-Line” maintenance The CCCW system, piping and equipment are designed for continuous safe operation, The equipment has been specified and selected to meet performance requirements and to be free from excessive maintenance problems. Major maintenance of equipment may be accomplished by isolating the equipment from the main stteam by use of stop valves and bypass valving furnished. Caution must be exercised in approaching any portion of the CCCW. The system, during operation, is under pressure. In working with any component subject to intemal pressure, care and caution must be observed to preclude unintended release of pressure and subsequent release of fluids. ‘Adequate drains at piping low points and around major components are provided to facilitate maintenance. ‘The smaller subheaters serving the heat removal devices are not equipped with separate drain valves because of the small volumes of water involved. No special provisions are required for component lay-up besides those required by equipment manufacturer.ECEPDI 30-H000902C-J108 Closed Cycle Cooling Water System Manual Rev. A E72 8.2.1 Isolation On-line maintenance for all system components can be accomplished by shutting down the component and isolating the portion of the system affected. 8.3 “Off-Line” Maintenance Since the CCCW system consists of redundant pump, heat exchanger, and of all components to be cooled it is anticipated that any substantial off-line maintenance in the nature of retubing, cleaning, periodic testing of components, etc., can be accomplished during major maintenance shutdown of the station. 8.4 Spare parts, Based on expected life ratings, vendor recommendations, and lead times involved in procurement, spare parts should be provided to assure that necessary repairs or replacement of items of equipment will not result in a loss of station generating capabilityhash) eS HA CHASHMA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT PROJECT UNIT-2 tel ARGH MKRA AB Title CLOSED CYCLE COOLING WATER SYSTEM MANUAL (occ) Chapter 9 Lists Chapter 10 Flow Diagram ABR DBT we East China Electric Power Design Institute 4751281 ]Compiled by Index No. i No. 5 fil did ey - Compiled by oa = BR KR ChemmnaroR q Checked by is T ORY bella yeapt ; at Reviewed by ty Web seofsioe RR Ard a Ade Approved by Gham 220edio a FS Amba Ss IS.
