3.  Initial Receipt and Inspection

Upon receipt of the crated cabinet, inspect the crate exterior for any obvious damage that may
have occurred during shipment. There is a tip indicator and a shock indicator on the outside of
the crate. If either the tip or shock indicators show red, inspect the contents after placing and
removing the cabinet from the shipping crate to determine if damage has indeed occurred to the
cabinet itself. If the cabinet is damaged, contact Bently Nevada per the information given on the
Contact page.

3.1  Moving the Cabinet

The cabinet has been shipped in a crate marked "Top Heavy". The crate includes a bottom pallet
to facilitate moving by qualified experts.  Be sure to adequately position and secure the cabinet
prior to lifting or moving. Ensure that the pathway over which the cabinet will be moved is clear

1.  Overview
1.1  Introduction
The Bently Nevada Asset Protection and Monitoring Cabinets (models BNAPMC-01 and BNAPMC-
04) provide an industrial solution for machinery protection instruments as well as network
hardware. Designs are specifically focused on ease of field wiring termination, protecting
personnel from accidental contact with the enclosed electrical instruments, and protecting the
instruments against specified environmental conditions.
Installation, commissioning, and maintenance on the BNAPMCs should only be performed by
authorized, qualified personnel.
This user guide refers to a cabinet containing all possible features available in a BNAPMC. Refer to
the enclosed drawing package for the exact features that are included in your cabinet.

1.2  Use of This Manual and Safety Labels

This manual will serve as a "Getting Started" Guide and gives general information needed for
safety. It should be used in conjunction with the drawing package and product manuals DVD
found in the documentation pocket on the inside face of the front door of the cabinet.
Pay careful attention to safety warning labels. Safety labels are posted on the cabinet itself, where
necessary, to inform the user of potential risks. Additionally, further information may be added to
the user guide(s).
An example of a safety label is shown below.

Warning (orange): a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result in
death or serious injury.
Danger (red): an imminently hazardous situation that, if not avoided, will result in death or
serious injury.
The example label above contains the signal word "Warning" shown in the orange colored banner
and a pictogram that represents the hazard, as well as the text section that further describes the
hazard. The Warning and text of a safety label may then be repeated below on the same label in a
translated language, if applicable, as shown in the example.
The safety label above is found on the outside of the cabinet. Hazardous live power and relays
may be present. There may be more than one source of energy at the BNAPMC. Therefore, there
may be more than one disconnecting switch. Refer to the drawing package that came with your
cabinet.
Additionally, even though the BNAPMC is de-energized by disconnection of power mains to the
cabinet, hazardous voltage may be present at the relay contacts or relay wiring. Use proper
isolation techniques and remove all power when working with the relays.

2.  Installation
Note
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital
device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable
protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial
environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if
not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful
interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely
to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference
at his own expense.

2.1  Placement
The BNAPMC should be installed indoors in a non-hazardous area. Refer to the environmental
specifications listed in datasheet (document 104M3188).
Place the cabinet so that the doors are able to open at least 130 degrees for serviceability. Do not
obstruct the fans. Leave a minimum of 30 cm (or 1 ft) of clearance around the fans.

2.2  Anchoring
Before operation, the cabinet must be suitably secured to the floor. Follow all national and local
codes. Bently Nevada recommends using four (4) M12x1.75 bolts with flat washers or four (4) 1/2-
13 UNC bolts with flat washers to secure the cabinet to the floor. The method of bolt attachment
will determine the bolt length.
The outer bolt pattern of the Rittal plinth is appropriate for securing the cabinet and to ensure
meeting the seismic rating of the cabinet. The holes are 18 mm by 14 mm ovals on a 734 mm by
735 mm pattern as shown in the following figure.

Power Feed (Mains) Input

The power requirements for the cabinet are given on the nameplate on the outside of the front
door of the cabinet as well as in the drawing package. The customer must wire the necessary
mains power to the cabinet. The incoming mains power (nominal) may be any of the following or
combination thereof:
 l 120 Vac, 1 φ, 50/60 Hz
 l 230 Vac, 1 φ, 50/60 Hz
 l 125 Vdc
The customer must provide the mains disconnect and branch circuit protection external to the
cabinet as required by their local and national codes.
If there are redundant power supplies in the 3500 rack, then two independent power feeds should
be brought into the cabinet for maximum fault tolerance.

Grounding
Protective Earth (PE)
Green/yellow wiring in the cabinet is reserved for protective earth only.
Protective earth is for safety purposes and is bonded to the frame (chassis) of the cabinet.
The installer must make a connection from protective earth in the cabinet to the external plant
earth, either by the incoming power feeds or by a separate connection from the protective earth
bar in the cabinet to the external plant earth.

Incoming power feeds with PE conductor

Each incoming voltage feed terminal block in the cabinet allows for a PE connection to be made.
If the incoming voltage feed includes a protective earth conductor, that conductor must be sized
equal to or greater than the current carrying conductor. Terminate the PE conductor at the proper
mains terminal block in the cabinet as shown in the Main Power Schematic sheet for each power
feed of the drawing package.

Incoming power feeds without PE conductor

If the incoming feed does not have a protective earth conductor, then you must connect the PE
bar in the cabinet to the external plant earth as shown on the Earthing Details sheet in the drawing
package. Two 8 mm bolts are provided for making such connections.

Functional (Instrument) Earth (FE)

A separate functional earth ground (FE) is provided for improved instrumentation immunity to
noise (also called an instrument ground). FE is isolated from the frame (chassis).
The FE of the cabinet must be connected to plant ground at installation. Connect the FE bar in the
cabinet to a dedicated instrument earth ground. Two 8 mm bolts are provided for making this
connection. If the customer site does not have a dedicated instrument earth ground, the
functional earth bar in the cabinet can be connected to the protective earth bar in the cabinet. See
the Earthing Details sheet in the drawing package.

Signal Inputs
The signal inputs for the 3500 System should be wired to the appropriate terminal blocks per the
Signal Wiring Schematic sheets of the drawing package. The shields of the signal input wiring
should be landed at the adjacent FE bar using the bus bar clamps. Follow the notes given in the
drawing package. Refer to the appropriate 3500 manual found on the DVD for further details
depending on the signal to be wired.

Fault Circuit Outputs

Wire the fault indicator circuits for 3500 Rack OK relay, the thermostat, and DC power supplies
(that are not part of the 3500 system) as shown on the Fault Circuits sheet in the drawing package.
Refer to manual 287853 on the DVD for more information on the 3500 Rack OK relay(s).
