Theme - Nutrition

Nutrition is a critical part of health and development. Better

nutrition is related to improved infant, child and maternal health,

stronger immune systems, safer pregnancy and childbirth, lower risk

of non-communicable diseases (such as diabetes and cardiovascular

disease), and longevity.

Healthy children learn better. People with adequate nutrition are

more productive and can create opportunities to gradually break the

cycles of poverty and hunger.

With the aim to create awareness and understanding of

nutrition.Following activities to be done by the students.


ENGLISH

I. Read the passage given below and answer the following questions:-

Everyone eats food. Some people eat lots of fruit and vegetables, others may eat more or
less meat, and some people may eat healthy, but others do not. All of it is related to
nutrition. Nutrition is the process of how people get the food that is needed to grow strong
and healthy along with obtaining the necessary vitamins and nutrients to help bodies grow
and function. For children, good nutrition is especially important and it is necessary to eat
healthy foods because kids are constantly growing. Good nutrition will lead to healthy bones
and muscles, and without receiving the correct vitamins and nutrients while growing, a child
will not grow as tall and as strong as they could be.

There are many aspects of nutrition including knowing about the different food groups,
understanding calories, and learning about the different vitamins, nutrients, and minerals a
body needs, and what to avoid. There are many healthy foods to eat in order to receive the
vitamins and minerals needed. For example, vitamin A is found in milk and helps keep the
immune system healthy; Vitamin C is found in oranges and other vegetables, which is good for
blood vessels, teeth, healing, and the brain. Vitamin D and calcium is great for healthy bones
and can be found in milk. Iron is needed for the blood and is available in red meat, poultry, fish,
and leafy vegetables. These are just a few of the minerals and vitamins that keep a person
heathy.

II. Write a short speech on the topic ‘Do we need more fast food restaurants in our
society '.
III. Watch out an advertisement of your favourite food item and then prepare an
information board on a A4 size sheet which can include the following points-
a. Name of the food item advertisement that you have watched.
b. Paste the picture of that item and the nutrition facts that item have.
c. How that advertisement influence you to purchase that item.
d. What is the nutritional value of that food item.

MATHEMATICS

1. Conduct a survey to determine the food preferences of a group of students and collect the
data. Prepare a pie chart to represent the above collected data on an A4 size sheet (Take 4 to
5 common food preferences only).
2. Conduct a survey in your locality to know the amount of nutritious food consumed by
different age groups and collect the data. Prepare a bar graph for the collected data on an A4
size sheet (Age group 1-15, 16-30, 31-45, 46-60 and above 60).
3. Make a list of food items consumed by you in a month and determine the percent of protein,
carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals present in them. Make a bar graph for the above
data on an A4 size sheet.

pictures in a scrapbook and write about their mode of nutrition.

Incorporating More Herbs!


Talk about food that packs a nutrient punch! Herbs are amazing plants that can greatly improve
the taste and health quality of most meals. Students can learn how to incorporate herbs into
different dishes for a more balanced diet. Create a mini herb garden.
Food collage
Time to get a little artsy with a fun magazine collage activity your teens will get wrapped up in.
Bring some health magazines with lots of pictures of different foods inside. Create a nutrition
collage board by cutting out food pictures and writing facts too.
Grocery Store Scavenger Hunt
Visit a near by grocery store. Find your favourite food items and their manufacturing date ,
ingredients with nutrition value and their shelf life from the packet . Do in separate thin notebook
