INSTRUCTION:

1. All tasks must be delivered in English.


2. The cover sheet of your assignment must contain the following information: Course
code and name / Semester / Your full name and student number / Your email address
and mobile number.
3. For written assignment, use Times New Roman or Arial, 12-point font, with 1.5-line
spacing in A4 format. Ensure that the assignment you submit is paginated.
4. Present your responses to the tasks in MULTIPLE files. Adhere to the following structure:
i. Response to Task 1 – A video presentation (max. 400MB)
ii. Response to Task 2 – Reflective Report/Essay

5. Submit your files ONLINE by 16 NOVEMBER 2021.

6. Late submission without prior permission will be penalized with marks deduction.

7. This assignment accounts for 60% of the total marks for the course:
a) Video Presentation – 40%
b) Reflective Report/Essay – 20%

TASK 1: INDIVIDUAL VIDEO PRESENTATION

TASK OBJECTIVE
The objective of Task 1 is to encourage learners to demonstrate the ability and confidence in
preparing and practising effective communication skills in a professional setting through a
video presentation.

TASK SCENARIO

You are a graduate of Open University Malaysia, and you are currently looking for a new job.
While browsing through some online platforms, you came across an advertisement that
suits your qualification and other needs. Due to the current pandemic situation, the
company that is hiring plans to conduct the interview online. However, to screen all job
applicants, the company requires all aspiring candidates to send in their application via a
video presentation.

Assignment Task
You are required to prepare a video presentation of your job application for the following
advertisement.

The following are requirements that you need to consider for Task 1:
1. Your video must be professionally prepared and conforms to the requirements of
the advertisement.
2. Structure your video by referring to Topics 3, 4, 7 and 9 of the OUMH 2203 Module.
These topics will provide you with sufficient guidelines in using appropriate
conventions, making a presentation, using graphical aids, and preparing a resume.
3. Make sure to introduce yourself and explain the reason you created the video. Talk
about what is so special about yourself and why you are the right person for the job.
Present examples of any previous work and relevant skills and experience.
4. Plan the whole presentation process thoroughly. Prepare your resume, related
notes, and visual aids for the video. Also include your resume during the
presentation and in Task 2 as an appendix. Demonstrate your skills using
slideshows, on-screen graphics, or other suitable applications such as PowerPoint
Presentation, iMovie, Funimate, Adobe and others.
5. The visual aids (graphs/charts etc) must support your presentation and further clarify
your qualification, interest, enthusiasm, and experience.
6. Record an 8–10 minutes video presentation. Marks will be deducted for
presentations that are lesser that 8 minutes or more than 11 minutes. Some tips to
ponder upon:
i. Look confident and professional.
ii. Your background and recording details must be clear too.
iii. The video screen must capture the top half of your body so that your hand
gestures and facial expressions are always visible.
iv. The content must cover the requirement of the assignment and make sure
the ending is not abrupt.
7. Make sure the recording content is authentic, clear, and engaging.
8. You need to be creative as if you are presenting live to the board of directors.
9. Submit your video online according to the instructions. If your video is larger than
400MB, refer to the guidelines on how to compress your video for submission.
10. You should also include a link of your video as a back-up in Task 2.

11. Refer to the Assessment Rubric to understand how your presentation will be
assessed.

TASK 2: REFLECTIVE REPORT

TASK OBJECTIVE
The objective of Task 2 is for learners to describe basic language-based skills in interpersonal
communication, business etiquette and relationship-building in workplace contexts through
a Reflective Report.

TASK REQUIREMENTS

IMPORTANT: This task is a continuation of Task 1.

Write a critical reflection on the process of preparing the video presentation. The structure
of this report follows the basic essay structure of introduction, body and concluding
paragraphs. Include your resume as an appendix. Refer to the sample outline as a guide.

Your Reflective Report MUST include the following FIVE criteria and each criterion should be
between 300-400 words:

i) Reflection on the process; the planning stage of the video, during the recording
of the video and after the video has been recorded. Reflect on the challenges and
what you did to overcome these challenges. Share your thoughts on the
language process too – vocabulary and grammar in writing and delivering the
report.
ii) The timeline of completing the recording of the video and the preparation of
visual aids. How long did you plan and record etc? How important is creativity
and professionalism in this task? Why do you say so?
iii) Reflection of the presentation content and rationalise how things could have
been done in a better way. Is this kind of presentation familiar with you or vice
versa? Describe well. During the process of the video, there might be some
instances where you realised your idea could have been improved in another
way. Describe this situation too.
iv) Show the video to ONE person and inquire if the report presentation is
convincing. If he/she believes the video is not effective, ask for other suggestions

that might help improve the speech or the product/service. Share this person’s
thoughts in your reflective essay.
v) Your personal thoughts of completing the video presentation. How do you feel
about it? Describe too, what are the advantages/disadvantages of recording this
video? Also describe if the experience may help you when you actually apply for
a job later on. If you feel the video recording is not advisable, what would be a
better alternative? Explain your rationale.

REMINDERS:
i. A Reflective Report is writing to evaluate, summarise, analyse, reflect on individual’s
journey of a/some particular actions. It is almost similar to journal writing.
ii. Plagiarism is a serious offense. Avoid using or claiming other people’s writing in this
assignment.
iii. Refer to the assignment rubrics as a guide to achieve cohesion and coherence.
