Instructions: Prepare a research paper of which the content (EXCLUDING title, references,
appendices etc.) is no less than ten (10) pages and no more than fifteen (15) pages on any one of the
following topics.

You are required to produce a report on Disruptive Technology which should at a minimum inform
the following:
● Find at least two (2) scholarly definitions of Disruptive Technology and subsequently provide a
definition in your own words.
● Provide a literature review to support the past, current and future state/effects of disruptive
technology on careers.
● Identify five (5) technologies and discuss how they have contributed to making some careers
obsolete.
● Identify three (3) careers which are currently being practiced in Jamaica and justify why these
careers may become obsolete by the time of the expected achievement of the much quoted “Vision
2030 Jamaica National Development plan”.
● Discuss how Disruptive Technologies may be utilized in the Jamaican government push for
economic growth.
Topic 2: Drones
The commercial use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), more commonly known as Drones,
has exploded over the last few years, and it’s clearly on a trajectory to continue. Its global
market is currently worth $2 Billion, and that number is estimated to skyrocket to $127 Billion
in 2020.

You are required to produce a report on Drones which should at a minimum inform the following:
● Find at least (2) scholarly definitions of a drone and subsequently provide a definition in your own
words.
● Discuss the varied applications of drone technology for commercial purposes.
● What are the opportunities and problems that may arise with the utilization of drones for
commercial purposes?
● Is there a role for legislators to manage any expected proliferation of drones in business?
● How can drone technology be leveraged in Jamaica by the private and public sector for enhanced
quality of life and enhanced businesses?
● Discuss if drones have a significant economic role to play in a smart city?
● What are the opportunities and challenges for the use of drones for commercial purposes in the
future?
The project should be done in your tutorial groups with NO MORE than four (4) students per group. All
reports MUST show the name, ID number, and major/school/dept of each student as well as the
tutor’s name and the module occurrence / group code. Include a breakdown of the tasks carried out by
each member of the group. You may conduct research using an academic Internet search engine, e.g.
Google Scholar. The Library online search tools can also be very helpful in your literature review.
Your submission must utilize the APA (American Psychological Association) documentation format of
reporting and should outline the tasks carried out by each member of the group. Students will be graded
for their contribution to the research. Note: APA Formatting will be explained in your lab sessions; you
may investigate this further online or in a reference book.)

Content (addresses all topics, accurate, adequate and relevant information, examples, 30

journal articles, papers, books etc. etc.)

1. Marks will be deducted for unauthorized late submission of assignments! o The University has a
very strict policy as it regards plagiarism. Please refer to your Student Handbook for this policy.

2. Where applicable, the printed copy of the documented should be submitted to the tutor.
3. The soft copy of the document should also be submitted via email or in some situations uploaded
