Patterns and Numbers in Nature & the World

Pattern
- Regular, repeated, or recurring forms or designs
- Patterns identify relationships and find logical connections to form generalizations
and make predictions.
- Examples: Floor designs, pattern of shoe lace, and human body
Other Relevant Terms
 Fibonnaci Sequence of number that goes 1,1,2,3,5,8 and so on. Each number is
the sum of the two numbers.
 Symmetry means one shape that becomes exactly like another when you move
it in some way.
 Tessellations – these are patterns that are formed by repeated cubes or tiles.
 Fractals – are “never ending patterns” that repeat indefinitely smaller scale.
 Spiral – In mathematics, it is a curve which emanates form point, moving farther
away as it revolves around.
