1. What is peer assessment, and why do we use it at University of the People?

Peer assessment is a frequent technique used by students to evaluate the contributions of their

peers to group projects. It is especially useful in team-based learning. We employed it at

UoPeople since we can both deeply reflect on our own work and help one other grow.

2. What are the benefits of peer assessment?

The benefits of peer assessment are -

 It allows students enough time to spot knowledge gaps, address problematic

behaviors, and maintain enhancing favorable behaviors.

 Students can gain lifelong evaluation skills by learning to evaluate others and provide

them with helpful criticism.

 It encourages students to pay closer attention to the course material.

3. What are the challenges of giving peer feedback in peer assessment?

The challenges of giving peer feedback in peer assessment are -

 The reliability of grades supplied by students can be impacted by friendship and peer

pressure.

 There may be a tendency among students to grade everyone equally (for example,

there may be collusion in return for good grades)

 In evaluating one another, students lack experience.

 When working in groups on assignments, students could lie.

4. What are the challenges of receiving peer feedback in peer assessment?

Receiving feedback can be difficult as well because it requires managing one's emotions and

ego when receiving critical remarks. Some students could find it difficult to accept criticism,

which leads to arguments with other students that could have an adverse effect on the tone of

the class.

5. What strategies will you use to peer assess written assignments? How will you assess

discussion assignments?

The best approach is to encourage students to develop clear criteria and to support their

judgements with reasons. In order to reduce the likelihood of prejudice or judgment and

increase the integrity of the evaluation, it would also be practical to make both the assessors

and the peers they are evaluating anonymous.

I read every discussion assignment posted in the forum, and I avoid giving them to people

who have previously gotten feedback. Whenever a colleague asks for something, I generally

give them something and always have a recommendation.
