About Monkeypox
Orthopoxvirus monkeypox, first isolated in 1958 from captive primate rash specimens, was
recognized to cause human illness in 1970 during smallpox eradication campaign intensification.
There are two main branches of monkeypox virus: the West African branch and the Congo Basin
branch. The West African clade has a lower fatality rate, with about 1% of infections resulting in
death; the Congo Basin clade can cause a 10% mortality rate. Until the 2003 US outbreak, no
human cases had been reported outside of Africa. However, monkeypox virus is spread through
close contact with people, animals or virus-infected substances it has recently spread widely in
many countries.
The use of ANDiS Monkeypox virus nucleic acid Detection kit (Fluorescence PCR) providing fast
results to identify patients infected with monkeypox virus can be an important factor for
monkeypox virus treatment and control.
nten e use
The ANDiS Monkeypox virus nucleic acid Detection kit (Fluorescence PCR) is an in vitro real-time
polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for the ualitative detection of monkeypox virus nucleic
acid (DNA) in lesion swab samples. This Assay is intended for use with specimens from patients who
are suspected of monkeypox virus infections. This assay is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of
monkeypox virus infections when used in con unction with clinical and other laboratory findings.
