Report of Interview on Good Classroom Activities
The observation was conducted in Islamic Boarding School in Aceh Besar
regency, that is Islamic Boarding School of Ruhul Islam Anak Bangsa. This school has an excellent system of teaching and known for its a lot of student achievements. This school uses curriculum 2013 (K13) that is student-centered as a blend of learning. From all of the class and majoring in the school, I choose second grade (XI) class majoring Science to observe and get information about teaching methodology which used in teaching English. The number of students in this is 26 students was led by a teacher named Mr. Khairul Ikhsan, S.Pd.I. He was graduated from the English Education Department of Islamic State of Ar-Raniry University. He is a teacher who has been teaching English for a couple of years in Ruhul Islam Anak Bangsa. The teacher that I came to interview named Khairul Ikhsan, S.Pd.I. I ask many questions about his background and how he usually running the English class in Ruhul Islam Anak Bangsa. He taught that he really enjoy the English class because it is in harmony with his talent and passion. Before the class begin, the teacher built up the class by making a conversation by asking their condition and situation at that day. Then He checked class members, whether all of the students were attending or not. He also giving some recent national and international new information to the class, because the students in RIAB could not access any gadget advices, and he start to give motivation to attract to student to be focus on him. The class began with the teacher tried to stimulate the students by told his own experience about education, target job, work experience, and his goals. Then he divide class members into four groups, each of group assigned to recounted one of teacher’s experience with fellow members. Then, the teacher asking a question about his experience to every group, when the group that he asked give a wrong answer he ask other group to correct the answer. He also make a scoring to each group based on how many questions the group amswer the question clearly. After giving a score the teacher orders every group to ask one question to him about his experience and group working ended. At the end of class the student should present her experience in front of the class. When one of student present her experience, the other student have to listen carefully while waiting for the turn to share experience. Since all of the class members share the experience the teacher along with students evaluate what was learned at that meeting. In the other occacion he uses media and variety method in eleborate the topic to make the student easy to undertand, he said that the method used is based on the material and topics. In this chapter, I would like to explain briefly what I got from the teaching learning process based on my interview with Khairul Ikhsan S.Pd.I. When the teacher came to the class, the teacher applied emotional approach by asking their condition and situation at the day and also some motivational story. This approach will help the teacher and the students to be more comfortable when interaction each other in learning process in the class. Before start the class, the teacher also gave them some instruction about the lesson that they would learned. So that the students did not confuse and out of the learning way. In the learning process, the teacher spoke bilingual, between English and Bahasa. it is related to the topics is about speaking. he stimulate the student to speak in english when the student giving argument and presentate their group. sometimes, the teacher also gave more explanation through whiteboard. This was a very well combination so that the students would not misunderstanding to the lesson. Beside only gave them the lesson, the teacher also gave them external motivation and a few minutes for relaxing. This motivation definitely enhance the student interest in learning. So, the students curiousity and pretension will always on fire in themselves. The relaxing also help them to enjoy and to do not make them bored in the class. In conclusion, using teaching method in learning process makes the condition of the class are comfortable, interesting and effective. It will help the students to undertand the lesson, the student will be more active and they won’t get bored in the class, almost all students actively participated . Definitely, by using some certain of teaching method, the teacher will be exhausted. But sometime, we can run the class in relaxing way and casually. It will help the teacher to get back energy in teaching and the student in learning. based on the interviewee answer, almost 70% students of the class feel enjoy the transfer knowledge process and catch the lesson well. it’s mean the learning proccess is good.
