This document discusses the basic assumptions of organizational behavior, which are divided into assumptions about the nature of people and assumptions about the nature of organizations. Assumptions about the nature of people include individual differences, viewing employees as whole people, selective perception, motivated behavior, valuing employees, and a desire for involvement. Assumptions about the nature of organizations include that organizations are social systems, there is a mutuality of interests between organizations and employees, and employees should be treated ethically. Considering these assumptions can help organizations achieve productivity and job satisfaction by understanding how to best structure themselves and work with employees.

HUMAN BEHAVIOR ORGANIZATION

BASIC ASSUMPTIONS OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR

Bhupindra Jung Basnet, MPhil

INTRODUCTION
This paper was written with the purpose of doing an in depth analysis of the basic
assumptions of organizational behavior and the nature of people and organizations,
incorporating the same to understand what can contribute to achieve productivity in the
organization and job satisfaction. In an organizational structure, there are key factors which can
affect organizational behavior, however, these factors are not the main topic in this study but the
assumptions it may create.
MAIN BODY
As defined assumptions is a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen,
without proof.1 In this paper, different theory and concepts of organizational behavior are said to
have come from psychology, social psychology, sociology, anthropology and political science. In
my opinion all of these fields of study had to do with our intrapersonal and interpersonal skills
we use in our daily lives, especially in working and dealing with work environment regardless of
whether it is healthy or not, these skills are what we use to cope to it. Further, I think that the
qualitative research design is best fit to this study, there is no better way to understand behavior
than to describe them.
To reiterate, the following assumptions about Nature of People are individual
differences, a whole person, selective perception, motivated behavior, value of the person, and
desire for involvement, on the other hand assumptions about Nature of Organization are the
following, social system, mutuality of interest, and ethical treatment. Assumptions made as to
these key factors shall help in understanding how and why an organization can work to achieve
or even surpass its potential.
CONCLUSION
Finally, after consideration of these key factors, we have come to understand that
assumptions of organizational behavior is of two components, that of its people and the
organization itself. In order to achieve a productive organization with job satisfaction, the people
and the organization must both consider their basic assumptions, adjust to it, maintain
professionalism, in order to encourage job ethic that works for both the benefit of the people and
the organization. Therefore, it is now clear that social system, mutuality of interest, and ethical
treatment are what comprises assumption about nature of organization.
