A Synthesis Paper on the Webinar entitled:
Tips on Oral and Visual Presentation

I once heard from one of my professors that a well-written-research is useless if it is not

shared with other people. From that simple sentence, I realized that research studies should not be
limited within the scientific community but should also be advocated by the public whose interest
lies within the presented topic. It is also important to note that we do research because many people
will benefit from its results; hence, the target audience should be able to understand, integrate, and
apply the outcome of the studies to their lives. With this, an effective way of doing oral and visual
presentations is deemed to be crucial. However, according to Prof. Embate, communication does
not only happen during the presentation but occurs in each step of the process, which I highly agree
with. In the whole progress of our paper, we are able to practice our skills by communicating with
our peers, advisers, professors, ourselves, and even with our data. As a matter of fact, we can assess
if we are conducting the research properly if we are able to communicate the things that we write
in our paper smoothly to other people. It just means that we, as researchers, understand the concept
and findings that we are trying to present.
The main goal of communicating the research findings in a public setting is to convince
the audience that our research is credible and relevant to the problem that the researcher and the
public share together. In order to attain this, the presentation should be persuasive enough to make
the audience agree with the results and make them take an action accordingly. It should also be
memorable and engaging so it will not be just a one-minute-hype and we can also be assured that
the audience has actually learned something from our presentation.
Nevertheless, some tips were shared for a plausible way of delivery during the final
presentation of the paper. It is important to know the people who will be listening to our findings
so we can use words and pace the presentation according to the needs and interests of the audience.
It is extremely significant as well that we know the content and organized it enough for us to share
it within the allotted time of presentation. Furthermore, visual aids should be provided in a clear
and comprehensive way. We should also be open to questions and comments so it is important that
we engage with our audience in a respectable and presentable manner. Lastly, to confidently
deliver the presentation, we must allot our time preparing and practicing it beforehand.
