Extruder Barrels & Screws

Reliable measurement and alignment

and straightness
Services for geometrical measurements
Why do extruders require precise measurement and alignment?

Extruders are used as conveying equipment in plastic-processing in- of motor and gearbox are important, but also the rotational axes of
dustry segments. In order to keep operating and maintenance costs at extruder bore and gearbox must be aligned to avoid wear damage.

If extruder bore and rotational gearbox axis are not aligned, mate-
rial wear increases. Circumferential stress marks on the screw shaft
and surface damage on the bore can indicate an incorrectly aligned Prior to alignment

Vertical straightness of the screw cylinder is also an important
criterion for smooth production. External stress can affect the shape
of the extruder bore leading to massive wear and material flaking
on the screw. Metal traces of material flaking are found on the final
product.

After alignment
After the measurement, the extruder support was corrected
and extruder bore straightness measured one more time. The
improvements can be seen clearly.
