Autumn
Autumn
four temperate seasons on Earth. Outside the tropics, autumn marks the transition
from summer to winter, in September (Northern Hemisphere) or March (Southern
Hemisphere). Autumn is the season when the duration of daylight becomes
noticeably shorter and the temperature cools considerably. Day length decreases
and night length increases as the season progresses until the Winter Solstice in
December (Northern Hemisphere) and June (Southern Hemisphere).
Meteorologists (and Australia and most of the temperate countries in the southern
hemisphere) use a definition based on Gregorian calendar months, with autumn
being September, October, and November in the northern hemisphere, and March,
April, and May in the southern hemisphere. In the higher latitude countries in the
Northern Hemisphere, autumn traditionally starts with the September equinox (21 to
24 September) and ends with the winter solstice (21 or 22 December).
Autumn is known for its beautiful foliage, as the leaves on many trees change color
and fall from the trees. This is caused by a decrease in sunlight, which triggers a
chemical reaction in the leaves that causes them to change color. The most common
colors of autumn leaves are yellow, orange, and red.
Autumn is also a time for harvest, as many crops are ready to be picked. This is a
time of celebration for farmers and other agricultural workers, as they enjoy the fruits
of their labor.
Autumn is a beautiful and enjoyable season, with its own unique set of activities and
benefits. Here are some of the things that people typically do in autumn:
Go apple picking
Go hiking in the fall foliage
Visit a pumpkin patch
Have a bonfire
Go leaf peeping
Bake with seasonal fruits
Drink pumpkin spice lattes
Watch football games
Autumn is a great time to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with family and friends.
It is a time for relaxation and fun, and it is a time to make memories that will last a
lifetime.
