In this task, you will be observed in a simulated environment to confirm you can perform skills to industry
standards and workplace expectations. The observation requires you to demonstrate you will follow
organisation policy and procedures to clean up the blood and bodily fluids and minimise the risk of
spreading infection to others.
You will respond to a situation where a colleague at the ECEC Center had a fall in a washroom and
bleeding.
On the end of the assessment, you will be required to submit the following document:
 OBSERVATION CHECKLIST 2 – PPE and cleaning blood spills and body fluids (HLTINF006
Assessment Task 3)
 Completed Hazard Report Form (Attached)
 Completed Incident, Injury, Trauma and Illness Record (Attached)

Scenario
During your shift at one of the ECEC Centers, Mark (5 year old), who is one the client, has had a hard fall.
He has fallen as he exited the washroom. He has slipped and hit his head on the floor and a large wound
has opened up just above his eye. The paramedics have been called and Mark has been taken to hospital
in ambulance. After he and all of the support staff have vacated the room, you have been called in to clean
up the sizeable blood spill that has occurred.
You have been informed by the attending support worker that when Mark was in washroom, he called for
help just before slipping and falling. She has informed you that Mark sometimes loses balance due to an
inner ear issue and this is likely the cause of his fall.
While cleaning up you have identified that Mark could have also slipped on the bathmat which was not
secured and looks like it came out from under his foot. There is also no lower grab bar to assist Mark as
he exits the shower – there is one in the shower and one by the toilet, but not one along the wall near the
towel hanger. You can see that the towel hanger is bent and broken, most likely because Mark tried to
grab it for balance and it broke causing him to fall and hit his head.

During the demonstration, your assessor will be looking to see that you can:
 follow policies and procedures when cleaning blood spills and body fluids
 use correctly put on appropriate PPE and use cleaning products
 correctly take off PPE
 correctly dispose used PPE and cleaning items to avoid possible infection spread.

Lab Skill Assessment 3 – Clean up the vomit and minimise the risk of spreading infection

In this task, you will be observed in a simulated environment to confirm you can perform skills to industry
standards and workplace expectations. The observation requires you to demonstrate organisation policy
and procedures to clean up the vomit and minimise the risk of spreading infection to others.
IncidentInjuryTraumaIllnessPolicyGuidelines.pdf
You will respond to a situation where a colleague in the ECEC Center that you work vomits during a
session.
 You will play the role of one of the workers.
 A fellow student, friend, colleague, or your assessor will play the role of Elaine.
 Elaine is unwell and vomits during his session. You will follow organisation policy and procedures to
clean up the vomit and minimise the risk of spreading infection to others.
On the end of the assessment, you will be required to submit the following document:
 OBSERVATION CHECKLIST 3 – Clean up the vomit and minimise the risk of spreading infection
(HLTINF006 Assessment Task 3)
 Completed Hazard Report Form
 Completed Incident, Injury, Trauma and Illness Record

Scenario
Elaine (4 year old child) is one of the clients at the ECEC Center that you are currently working.
Elaine looks a little unwell today, not her usual chirpy, smiling self. When asked how she is doing, she
responds saying that she feels a little tired and doesn’t have much appetite. As a COVID-19 screen
precaution, her temperature has been checked she has been asked a series of questions related to flu-like
symptoms. She checked out fine so you don’t think too much of it.
About halfway through your time with Elaine, she suddenly stops talking and holds her breath. When
asked what’s wrong she tries to explain and then suddenly vomits.
You suspect that this might be gastroenteritis and you will need to clean up and take the necessary
precautions to avoid spreading the infection in the centre.

During the role play, your assessor will be looking to see that you can:
 follow policy and procedure to clean up the vomit
 follow policy and procedure to avoid the potential spread of the infection
 use correctly/put on appropriate PPE and use cleaning products
 correctly take off/remove PPE
 make use of the designated clean area when collecting and storing records and equipment
 work with the client to ensure that he remains calm throughout
 follow policy and procedure to report the incident and your response to it.

Labs Skills Assessment 4 - COVID-19

In this task, you will be observed in a simulated environment to confirm you can perform skills to industry
standards and workplace expectations.
You will respond to a situation where a child contracts COVID-19.
 You will play the role of an ECEC Center worker.
 A fellow student, friend, colleague or your assessor will play the role of Brianna.
 Constance is visibly unwell, she is coughing, lethargic and not her normal self. You will follow
organisation policy and procedures and put in place measures to minimise the risk of spreading
infection to others.
 IncidentInjuryTraumaIllnessPolicyGuidelines.pdf
On the end of the assessment, you will be required to submit the following document:
 OBSERVATION CHECKLIST 4 – COVID-19 (HLTINF006 Assessment Task 3)
 Completed Hazard Report Form (Attached)
 Completed Incident, Injury, Trauma and Illness Record (Attached)

Scenario
Constance is a 30-year-old colleague at the ECEC that you are currently working. She is a very social
person and often has visitors come to her home for tea or a meal.
When you go to the center today, you notice that Constance is coughing a lot. Given that there is a
resurgence of COVID-19 in the community you decide to treat this as a possible COVID-19 case and
respond appropriately. At the moment, here is a state government mandate to report all confirmed cases
of COVID-19.
You must decide how to handle the situation and report it accordingly.

During the role play, your assessor will be looking to see that you can:
 follow policy and procedures for dealing with illness and risks/hazards
 follow any government health mandates and legislation related to COVID-19
 follow policy and procedure to avoid the potential spread of the infection
 work with the client to ensure that she remains calm and instruct her what to do
