Documentum xPlore

EMC Documentum xPlore provides new search services for the Documentum platform,
replacing the existing FAST Search Server, which will no longer be supported by the end
of 2011.

Attend this webcast for an introduction to Documentum’s no-charge, next generation


search functionality, as well as resources and techniques to aid in upcoming migration
activities.

The new Documentum xPlore Administrator is very nice and is also deployed to the
xPlore JBoss instance. As you would expect, the Administrator gives you complete
control over the xPlore environment including testing, tracing and debugging xPlore
instances.

There are at least three (more depending upon how many nodes you install) URLs you
will want to keep handy:

 Index Agent – http://host:9200/IndexAgent/login_dss.jsp


 xPlore Administrator – http://host:9300/dsearchadmin (this URL is
conveniently added to the DA home page.)
 To test if the primary xPlore instance is running – http://host:port/dsearch
(should respond: Node PrimaryDsearch [version=1.0.0.122] normal)

Installation Procedure

Install a new xPlore deployment

To deploy xPlore:

1. Install the primary instance


2. (Optional) Install secondary instances
3. (Optional) Install Content Processing Service (CPS) instances

Install the primary instance

You must install a primary instance before installing secondary instances. (Secondary instances
are not required.) Follow these instructions for the machine on which you want to install the
primary instance.

For all xPlore instances, index agents and CPS instances, make sure that:

• The same installation owner is used to install them (to avoid permission-related errors).
• They are all deployed on the same operating system (Windows or Linux).

1. dsearch_home is the root xPlore installation directory.

2. Unzip the below file to a temporary directory:

Click “Next” to proceed further

Specify the location to be installed and click “Next”

Enter the watchdog administrator email information. The watchdog uses these to send email
notifications. Click “Next” to proceed further. If the SMTP server address is invalid, the installer
prompts for confirmation.

Click “Install” to proceed further.

The installer successfully installed “Dsearch configuration program” and “Index Agent
Configuration Program”

Install the primary instance

Run dsearch_home\setup\dsearch\configDsearch.bat

Select “Create Primary Server Instance” and click “Next”

Enter Installation Owner Password and click “Next”

Keep the Server Name, Base Port as it is. Enter only password for Admin User.

Primary Instance has been successfully installed. Click” Done”

To start the primary xPlore instance, run:

The Documentum Search Services PrimaryDsearch (Primary) Windows service, or


dsearch_home\jboss4.3.0\server\startPrimaryDsearch.cmd

To test whether the primary instance is running, open your Web browser and enter
http://host:port/dsearch
where:
• host — the DNS name of the computer on which the xPlore primary instance is installed
• port — the port number (which is, by default, 9300) on which the xPlore primary
instance is istening

Install xPlore Index Agents
To enable xPlore to index content in Documentum repositories, you must install and configure
an index agent for each repository. Install an index agent on the machine on which the xPlore
primary instance is installed. Make sure that the index agent can access the associated
Documentum repository.

For all xPlore instances, index agents and CPS instances, make sure that:

• The same installation owner is used to install them (to avoid permission-related errors).
• They are all deployed on the same operating system (Windows or Linux).

Run dsearch_home\setup\indexagent\configIndexagent.bat

Keep the Server Name, Http Port as same. Enter only the password for Admin User

• Host — DNS name of the machine on which the primary instance is installed
• Port — Port number of the primary instance (by default, 9300).

Enter the Connection Broker Host, Port and repository credentials.

Enter Global Registry Repository password.

Select Storage Location and Click „Next”

To start the index agent service (or restart it, if it is already running), run:
• Windows:
— The Documentum Index_agent Windows service, or
— dsearch_home\jboss4.3.0\server\startIndex_agent.cmd

To start the index agent servlet

Select “Start Index Agent in Normal Mode” and click “Start” button
